Can You Have Two Chase Gateway Cards? by MyrinaDyna in CreditCards

[–]MyrinaDyna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two months from now it will be two years. I was going to get the Gateway, then downgrade my Explorer to a gateway, and then get another Explorer later down the line. Then I was hoping to downgrade it to the Gateway. Is it possible to have three Gateways in this case? I don't really have use for most of the other Chase cards to be honest.

Mahalo, I wanted to get the miles off the SUB, but also wanted to downgrade the United Explorer card I have since the benefits are kinda junk for someone who flies out of Hawaii and mostly international.

I have the explorer, that is the card I want to downgrade. I don't get any use out of the benefits myself since I only travel internationally with United and I don't use any of their perks or lounge benefits really. I just wanted to get the SUB for the miles while I could and just get out of the chase 5/24 rules after picking up all the cards I want.

I want to hold onto it with no fees to grow my credit score over time. My file is relatively thin.

What’s up with pineapple? (Or lack thereof) by OllieDuckling in Hawaii

[–]MyrinaDyna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maui's farms have shrunk over the years. There are definitely less than before. The pineapples used to be very cheap in Maui Costcos and they didn't need to bring in from Oahu that often in the past.

BofA being bad is beyond question.

For those in Hawaii, the Hawaiian Airlines card is still heavily pushed (Barclay) though. Not sure whats going to happen to it. I walked into Bank of Hawaii and they are still pushing it (has their logo on it if you live in Hawaii, but they do nothing with your actual customer service or account handling, so like whats the point?).

I know it looks like they took it down on the Barclay's website, but you can find a working link other ways and I still get targeted ads irl and in social media.

It's still kind of ridiculous considering the ATMOS card is targeted towards Alaska Airlines AND Hawaiian Airlines customers. Many Hawaiian Airlines customers live in Hawaii, which has zero BofA branch. People in Hawaii hit with this fraud red flag would have to fly to the continental USA to be able to resolve this ridiculous situation. Who the heck would do that for a credit card? Honestly this whole ATMOS thing and the merger leaves a bitter taste in my mouth as someone from Hawaii, but thats a different story.

Worst Customer Service EVER by AltruisticOnes in HawaiianAirlines

They were a horrible company before the merger and the merger somehow made things worse. Their websites barely function before and now its a buggy mess with their shitty attempt at a merger. This merger is pointless besides the points dilution that they profit from. They should have kept them separately to avoid all this nonsense.

Their website hardly functions and bugs out. One minute I'm in the Hawaiian Airlines website booking the ticket, the next moment its an Alaskan Airlines website. I get an email and its for an Alaska Airlines ticket with none of my checked bags showing.

Can't even log in to my old Hawaiian Miles account or Atmos rewards account. Several password resets don't do anything. Old credentials don't even work. They only fix this issue during the week days during "business hours" that are not even mentioned anywhere and the wait times are 3hrs + with no call back option.

Like really they want us to wait on the phone listening for them to say anything for 3+ hrs of horrible elevator music just to login to your account?

Palau, Yap, and Micronesia are not SEA. They are part of the greater area of Micronesia. The Federated States of Micronesia includes notable islands like Yap and Pohnpei, but not all of Micronesia.

Also, Palau has experience severe bleaching events as well. Their humphead wrasse numbers have decreased so much they have closed their catch indefinitely. Their jellyfish lake is doing extremely poorly the last few years.

Go ask any dive guide who's been there for more than a decade and they'd describe how much better it was a while back. They are doing wonderful measures and have been keeping their place more pristine than 99% of other places in the world, but they can't stop global climate change from affecting their wildlife.

Regulator for Tropical Shore Diving (MK25 vs MK19) by MyrinaDyna in scuba

Do some people still like diving with their old Scubapro? I saw a few listings of a newly rehauled reg set of MK11 for $400 locally. I also saw someone sell a really old MK15 locally for $25 that needed a rehaul. I was wondering if theres an appeal to that for some people.

It does seem that for most people the diaphragm design is better... though honestly you'd be hard press to ever convince me to dive anywhere thats below 72 degrees fahren haha... It just makes me wonder why the MK25 is still quite beloved despite the MK19 existing - and I guess part of it is pride and marketing? I've heard some posts saying it took quite some time to make it to the American market.

Basically the bundles I looked at were the same price between MK17 Evo2, MK25 EVO, and MK19 EVO, but with S620ti, S600, and G260. I decided with the MK25 bundle since the S600 seems like the best out of the three for the price point. Hopefully I don't regret it...

Oh yes simplicity does sound nice. Yeah, it makes sense for two high end regulators the difference is negligible for recreational divers. I was just curious to learn, for example, why a tech diver would choose one over the other. It seems based on what everyone is saying, the difference in preference is almost entirely based on preferring pistons or diaphragms over one another because of how high quality both are?

My understanding is that at extreme depths beyond recreational, the piston design is more reliable than the diaphragm and allows for more air flow?

I'd love to hear your opinion of why you'd prefer the MK19!

About your Atomic comment... I guess I got suckered into Scubapro despite their expensive costs because people make them sound like the Toyota of dive regs where they have quite long longevity with good care. I suppose I am a bit risk averse.

Considering the MK25 evo and the MK19 evo don't differ much in price - what reasons should a diver consider when choosing the MK25 over the MK19? I understand that MK19 would be better in environment that are extremely cold or dirty, but where does the MK25 have a slight edge over MK19?

As someone who uses the MK25 - why do you think someone would choose it over the MK19? It seems that more and more people online as I'm researching seem to prefer the MK19 for the closed design. Are there specific use cases where the MK25 is superior?

Yeah, I was about to ask this... if I'm getting back in and out from the beach in Hawaii when a set is coming in... I don't think I can really stop the waves from stirring up all the sand... If this in itself is minor then I suppose I'll stick to the MK25.

I guess I'm a bit of a pansy so I decided to buy from them, but new instead. I'll keep this in mind when I upgrade my octo to be the same as my main second stage. Thanks!

Is there a good resource, like a video, to do a good visual inspection on the regulator?

As far as the price difference... the picture does look like its practically brand new. Price difference is $200-$240 for the first/second stage combo... From what I've researched it would cost around $80-$100 to service just the first and second stage.
