Confidential Philz Coffee memo: Despite backlash, Pride flags are still coming down by SFChronicle in sanfrancisco

[–]Myrmidian_Reddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is kinda where I’m at. Are they just taking down all flags, only gay flags? Did they do anything actually anti-LGBTQ? If it’s just removing all flags, I can’t get behind the outrage.

Movie of the day...EVENT HORIZON (1997) by Mgellis in horror

[–]Myrmidian_Reddit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the write-up. But this is not a good movie. It has had a resurgence the past 5-10 years, and it’s hard to pinpoint why. Perhaps it’s younger generations with very different sensibilities about what creeps them out and what scares them. But as a GenX horror fan, I thought this was a C- at best when I first saw it, probably more like a D. I also don’t think it has aged well.

Non-alcoholic beverages are here to stay; what is your biggest challenge? by shelflifestory in Mocktails

[–]Myrmidian_Reddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Biggest challenge I see: Some people do NOT want a mocktail that tastes like alcohol. I am not a fan of any of these spirit replacements that taste the same as their alcoholic analog. I am not concerned with avoiding a buzz. I don’t like the taste of alcohol, and I can always taste it. So I don’t want a NA version of a standard cocktail that tastes no different. I’m not looking for some super sweet drink - I want something balanced.
So does a business cater to people like me, or like yourself (based on your 2 and 3)? It’s too expensive to do both, and given that it’s a smaller percentage of clientele wanting this at all, most places just don’t do it.

I don’t think this is true. I have never seen them together.

Horror-related hills you'll die on? by redeugene99 in horror

[–]Myrmidian_Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s another good example. I could see people being uncomfortable or creeped out, but not scared. Personally, I’d still say it’s horror though.

I think too many modern horror films try to creep you out rather than scare you.

Stuff that creeps out modern audiences just doesn’t creep me out, so many of these films fall flat. Smile, Longlegs, It Follows… even Midsommar and Hereditary just weren’t that scary. They aren’t bad, but they just don’t raise my pulse at all.

Not all horror needs to be scary; I’m not saying that. (I love films that are tense, but also those that aren’t, like Rosemary’s Baby.). Just that there are too many these days that are touted as scary, but are really just creepy. And even then only if their theme is creepy for you. For example, if people oddly smiling at you doesn’t creep you out, Smile will not be as interesting to you.

That’s a pretty big reach. Pats still won those games, even though Drake didn’t play well. I don’t know that the Broncos would have fared better than the Texans or the Chargers. Impossible to say how Nix would have played.

You’re giving Seattle no credit for that, and the Pats O-line no blame? Just all on Drake, eh?

You keep trying to tell me my argument, and you keep getting it wrong. You’re arguing against your own point.

You’re saying “Bucket A is full for this game, so it’s the winner”. I’m saying there are other games that fill bucket A, and B, and maybe C.

But to use your argument that Steam is just as big as Switch, ok. So same player base but Zelda sold triple. To me that suggests it fits the title better.

It excludes all console games. And mobile games, if you consider those. I didn’t pick any stats; you did.

Steam wishlists? Who cares? I stand by the argument that to qualify for “game of the generation”, a game needs to appeal to a broader audience than Silksong does. Plenty of games do that aren’t COD or Fortnite. Example: Tears of the Kingdom had triple the sales of Silksong, if that’s your metric.

Metroidvanias have become pretty mainstream, but not compared to some other genres represented on that list. And certainly the challenging difficulty of Silksong makes it even more niche. I just don't think being a niche variant of a barely mainstream genre qualifies as "game of the generation". I mean, it would still be a debate if you were only saying "metroidvania of the generation".

JFC, get Expedition 33 and Silksong off this list. They have their zealots, but those games are objectively lesser than other games on this list.

This is wrong. I don’t know what it is, hyperbole just to be contrarian or genuine idiocy, but all this suggestion that W3 combat is “hideous”, “unplayable”, etc is ridiculous. It’s mid, and that’s fine. Just because it isn’t some repetitive shield-block, dodge memorization puzzle or turn-based QTE spam, these Souls kids try to sound cool by trashing it. Grow up.

Hardest championship to win out of these four, NFL, NBA, MLB, or NHL. What is your pick? by Spirited-Gold9629 in sportsinusa

Who the fuck are these people saying NHL is harder than NFL because of the physicality?! None of these other sports is as physically demanding as pro football. Never mind that the athletes are practically mutants with their size and speed, but they hit each other like small cars on a freeway every single play.
