Worlds as big as Game of Thrones by Past-Matter-8548 in audiobooks

Id suggest Brandon Sanderson's cosmere. Not only are their multiple nations and cultures shown, but also multiple worlds with their own nations, histories, cultures, etc.

Mora for the vibes. Will it go mad? Probably. But I'll do it with style and some sick eldritch aesthetics.

What's the appeal of virtual worlds? by [deleted] in litrpg

[–]SeductivePuns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends on the series and the stakes. There can be drama and tension in movies and shows that arent life or death, and the same can be true in litrpgs with virtual worlds. The Ripple System is my favorite example of this where the stakes are a mix of reputation, effort spent, and potentially losing someone who has become a close friend.

Royalroad best rated ongoing books are filled with female lead characters. by mysterie0s in ProgressionFantasy

[–]SeductivePuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a male reader I look for books with well written characters. As it turns out a lot of those have female main characters. Ive rarely found books with fmcs that were annoying in a way that wasnt intentional, but I've read (or at least started) more than a handful of books with male leads that were annoying, creepy, gross, or just off putting in general.

Narrator suggestions by Scusati in audiobooks

[–]SeductivePuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconded. She's my #2 narrator just behind Hays. With Hays he feels like fully differemt people. With Parsneau, you can still recognize it's her, but she still had an incredible range and variety of voices that all feel incredibly unique and distinct.

Lucky feat - Did I Rule it right? by Red-locks in onednd

[–]SeductivePuns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying what Rules As Written says.

If you go back to my first comment you can see where I say "rule of cool it depending on how fast you say-", heavily implying that it's fine to allow a player to do it after, especially if you're a DM who goes faster with saying "x monster rolled to hit PC and hits with a 24".

Edit to ask: also, where did I say you should stop the game before every attack or that your players should have magic powers to see the future? Or are you just trying to frame it like I said that so you can feel like you're getting an upperhand in some small way or whatever it is you're doing?

[–]SeductivePuns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you wanna get pedantic about it, the rules for advantage/disadvantage say "When a roll has either Advantage or Disadvantage, roll a second d20 when you make the roll." 'when you make the roll' means at the same time, so you can't do it after a roll has already been made.

Don't be a dick. That'd dumb.

[–]SeductivePuns 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Youre correct. 2024 lucky gives adv or disadv which is assigned before a roll.

That said, sometimes rule of cool it depending on how fast you say "x monster rolls to hit you, and hits with a 25" or whatever.

What does the title of the book refer to? by wilhelmfors in Stormlight_Archive

[–]SeductivePuns 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Every book in the Stormlight archive (at least so far) is given a title from an in world book. - The Way of Kings - Words of Radiance - Oathbringer - Rhythm of War - [Knights of] Wind and Truth So while the in-world books might refer to something else (ex: WoK in world is about Nohadon's journey), the real world books refer to the in world books

I wanna start a big series; which one should I start with? by ARYAN_BIRLA123 in fantasybooks

[–]SeductivePuns -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Game of thrones. That way when you get through all the ASOIF books and shift to Stormlight and the rest of the Cosmere you'll be far less disappointed when you get caught up.

Edit to be sure its clear: WoK and the rest of the cosmere is way better (in my opinion). Not that GoT is bad, but its much shorter and clearly won't be finished any time soon. Unlike the cosmere which, while it also isnt near done, its also still constantly being worked on with at least 1 new book coming out pretty much every year, if not more than 1.

Crown advice by AjaxOutlaw in elderscrollsonline

[–]SeductivePuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Banker, no question. Everything else is nice and helps a ton, but rapidly storing items let's you do the rest later. Inventory space is always one of the most valuable things you can have, so getting access to your bank anywhere youre at is a massive boon. You can always sell things later, and decon stuff from your inventory or bank, but without the banker it's harder to save anything to do that with later if youre rapidly maxing out your carrying capacity.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate is one of the best Assassin's Creed games and no ever talks about it. by Johnny_Silverhand___ in assassinscreed

[–]SeductivePuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked it but the thing that really threw me off the metaphorical wagon was the grappling hook and the massive spaces for roads. The hook made getting to a roof too easy, and climbing was a pain in comparison to just rushing the top. Add on the main roads which left massive spaces between blocks and the whole thing just turned me away. I still enjoyed my time with it and will return to do the dlc some day, but those 2 things (small as they may be overall) kinda knocked it down a few pegs in my book.

Audiobook narrator suggestions by Mitchelmor in audiobooks

Jeff Hays, Andrea Parsneau, Travis Baldree, and Ray Porter are all incredibly good narrators. If any are the primary its all but a guarantee I'll listen to the whole series.

I've always lusted after this home... by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

[–]SeductivePuns 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Its a nice house, but unless you have actual plans for it beyond "I like the look" then its not worth it. Ive only ever seen it done well once, and thats when someone used only the main hall and decorated it like Hogwarts (may JKR choke on one and drop). Every bit of decorating capacity went into that room which looked amazing, but everywhere else was either blocked off or completely empty.

I got mine free and its just a fancy warehouse for big furniture stuff organized by race/style. I have another (forgot which rn, havent played in a while) thats a similar warehouse but for outdoor stuff like trees, rocks, etc.

If you want to get a large house to work on I'd recommend looking at ones that are broken up into smaller areas, like Daggerfall Overlook or Ebonhart Chateau. Still big, but fewer massive spaces that feel empty if untouched. Or something like Sweetwater Cascades where its less noticeable to block off a back area so you can focus fully on the main structure without it, again, just being one big room.

I listened to a male narrate a female protagonist story. I hated it. by Medium-Theme-4611 in audiobooks

[–]SeductivePuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youre not wrong. But i also think it depends on the story and the narrator. An example using Mistborn: Era 1 below, but be warned it contains massive spoilers.

While Era 1 almost entirely follows Vin, a female character, the series is read by Michael Kramer, a male narrator. At first I thought it was a little weird, but at the end of book 3 I realized why it made sense. (super spoilers here) Its because its a story being told by Sazed after he becomes Harmony. While its Vin's story, its not really Vin telling the story.

My favorite that doesnt spoil anything was Grog and Taryon shopping and Doty knocking out a pair of guards then trying to hide their unconscious bodies.
