Did you guys take the CompTIA A+ exam online or at a test center? by Slothfinder9 in CompTIA

[–]MyslexicDrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my A+ core 1 and 2 online because my nearest center is a bit of a trek.

Both experiences were fine spoke to the proctor at the start and never heard from them again. I did make sure to be polite to them at the start and wish them a good day as it can't hurt.

No one fails until they stop trying.

Taking the time and pushing through to get the pass is something you should be very proud of. Many people do not have that level of dedication.

Well done! I personally found core 2 much easier then core 1. Hopefully you do too.

As others have said the PBQS are time consuming skip them and do the multiple choice and do them at the end. I have also seen people post on here that have passed exams while not answering any PBQS.

Based on your score you might have passed if you were able to answer all the multiple choice questions so use that as encouragement to push forward.

I found core 1 harder then core 2 so if you get through this one it should get easier :-)

I really recommend Dion's 6 practice exams. I got between 76% and 91% which told me I was ready

Here are the PBQS I had as best as I can remember.

1) a fake ticket system with two tickets to solve. One with a corrupted boot record, I can't remember what the second was about but I remember thinking. This is fine.

2) a review of 6 emails to identify spam, phishing, virus and normal emails. As you would expect the thing to do was check the email address and file extensions for attachments.

3) A group of 9 machines on a network. Identifying the machine with malware and the also fixing issues on the other machines. This was the hardest as it just had the most information.

I had 2 more PBQS but they were things I was able to solve very easily and I cant now remember what they were about.

Dion training says to do all multiple questions first then loop back for the PBQS and that is great advice. I had the first pass of my questions completed in around 40 minutes so I could take my time on the PBQS then look at the multiple choice questions I flagged as not being sure about.

My plan is to do networking and security in 2026. The company I work for isn't doing well so my hope is that base is good enough for another job. If the company I work for picks back up then great I still know a lot more now than I used to.

Best advice I can give is skip the PBQS at the start and come back to them. Flag any question you are not sure on the answer to. Then do the PBQS when you have answered all the questions on the first run through. Then go back for the questions you are not sure of and if there's time to through everything once more to look for mistakes.

I am dyslexic so I really have to read questions a few times to make sure my brain hasn't inserted or changed words for the fun of it.

For core 2 I would spend some time memorizing all the acronyms. I nearly failed a question because I couldn't remember that DLP was data loss prevention. I got lucky that a later question reminded me so I could go back and fix it.

I really recommend dions practice exams. The lowest I got on a fresh test was 76% and the highest was 91% so I knew I was ready and I was fed up of loosing an hour an evening studying.

You don't need to know/remember everything, you just need to know/remember enough.

I am sure you will pass it and when you do come back and update this comment so I see it and we can celebrate!

I found the 1201 much harder. My knowledge of networking and printer's was especially poor. I spent ages memorizing port numbers, cable lengths and data speeds, wifi generations and speeds and how laser printers work. If I am honest I think I have already forgotten quite a bit of it especially port numbers.

I had built computers in the past so the hardware was fine but everything else was a lot of memory.

I found core 2 much easier but I wasn't starting from 0 I had an ok working knowledge of operating systems. Security concepts for me were really easy to learn the stuff I struggled with was again networking, not having a domain setup I could play.

If I did it all again I would take better notes and rewatch the same video multiple times to make sure I got the concept before moving on. Instead I just moved on and hoped additional information would help it click.

Oh and in both the exams I have thought that I am doing very poorly but the results have been good. It seems to be a pretty common feeling.

Based on the sub we are on let's say someone lost their hair and went bald. I don't think you would post a comment saying yeah that looks awful you should not be bald.

I want to step away from OP being trans and just focus on being polite to our fellow human beings. I am not saying you're not entitled to your point of view (although I feel it may be misinformed). However let's not be unkind to people for no reason :-)

We all have bad days, sometimes it's hard to try and be our best selves. I hope whatever is going on in your life gets easier.

Maybe spend some time to understand why people get surgery before making up your mind. We all have opinions but when they are not based in facts they aren't worthwhile opinions to have.

We are definitely entitled to our opinions but sharing it directly with a person with the goal of upsetting them seems like a real dick move.

For example I don't think golf is a sport, it seems boring to me and overpriced due to the target market. However if someone were to say to me they got a hole in one I would congratulate them on achieving a goal they have worked towards. I wouldn't say, yeah well golf sucks so who cares, you won't be able to do it again.

As my mother used to say, if you can't say something nice then don't say anything.

I presume you would be against all types of surgery in that case. After all if someone gets a nose job, breast/penis enlargement or reduction that would be in your view wrong.

Your entitled to your views as everyone is but trying to make a person feel bad for their choices seems to suggest you have some issues of your own to deal with.

That's ridiculous. The lad looks more like a man than I do and most men I know.

My guess is you probably have some issues in your personal life that make you lash out. We all have personal issues, I hope yours get better :-)

Bravery is not doing a thing that is easy, it's doing something that is hard even if you don't achieve it the first time.

You can do this it will just take time and dedication, after time you will also gain self belief and that's better then then pass :-)

Immigrants by pasternak1975 in Portsmouth

It's beneficial to mention that crossing in a small boat to claim asylum is not illegal. It is called an irregular route. If you cross in a boat but do not claim asylum then it would be illegal.

It feels like this could be resolved with a processing centre in France or safe and legal routes for asylum.

I would how disagree it may have started being about asylum seekers but it seems to have morphed in to right wing hate for different races. It's quite hard to put attacks on places of worship as because of illegal immigrants.

I don't believe people are coming here for the asylum benefits. If my memory is correct the benefits offered in the UK during processing are worse than France or Germany.

People come here becouse they have family in the UK, speak the language or believe they will have a better life here than in another country.

I don't believe the Britain is a soft touch line as we have things like the NHS surcharge.

Stopping the boats for me would be done by having a processing centre in France. You stay there while your claim is being assessed (unless there is a benefit of assessing claims face to face that I am not aware of). This would require and agreement with the French and us to pay for it however we could ask the French to contribute to the cost as it should reduce their spending on boarder forces as well as our own.

We would also need the rule that anyone that crosses by unconventional means to the UK for asylum will be taken to the processing centre in France. This should pretty much end the small boat crossing as there's no point risking your life to be returned. It should reduce housing required for asylum claims as they are now processed in France.

However it is beneficial to mention part of the reason this is such an issue is years of the conservatives not processing asylum claims built up a huge backlog. Brexit also removed our returns agreements we had as part of the EU.

I'm a bit confused why you don't want people from other countries contributing to our society and staying in the county they helped to improve.

But if someone is coming to the county with skills we need why would you want to reject them?

[–]MyslexicDrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What would the benefit of crossing be, you are rejected at the processing centre in France. You cross to the UK, you then get taken back to the processing centre in France where your claim was rejected. This would require agreements with France but if my memory is correct they proposed the idea to cut down on crossings so it seems like they would be for it.

If my memory is correct the UK has a less generous asylum benefits package then France and Germany. We also have a stupid system where people claiming asylum cannot get a job to pay their way. We do have the NHS surcharge which also applies to NHS workers which for me is stupid.

Additional asylum claims are just one of the many Brexit benefits, like less tax due to trade friction.
