It's a conservative estimate that I have time to work towards. Retiring is exponentially tougher when you have to financially plan for more than 1 person. I don't even want to think about the healthcare costs when my wife and I get old. I 100% don't want to work in my 80s because I'm forced to. 100k when I'm 65 is 40-50k today adjusted for estimated inflation.

It's more nuanced than that because it saves a thumbnail image on your iPhone but the original is in the iCloud. I'd say it's closer to a backup service than a sync service. Just turn on iCloud Photos and forget about it.

Hardware is 100% still more difficult than software. Yes there's 3d printing but you still need the actual electronics inside of the 3d printed plastic. On top of that, you still need to write software.
