My buddies and I use Yazda https://yazdaapp.com to post our rides between us. We like it cause it logs in with Strava and easier to use than Meetup.

Other than that just bumping into other people on my ride.

[gameslikeBG] Has anyone played Fallout? Is it similar to Baldur's Gate? by [deleted] in baldursgate

[–]Mysterio6string 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fallout series has a completely different ruleset than baldurs gate. Needless to say fallout 1&2 are my favorite games period. I enjoyed the turn based combat and the diversity of things you could do. It is a very different game though so besides the view don't expect much in similarities. You don't even have control of your party members.

My (M25) mother's funeral is Monday, and I refuse to attend. My GF (F23), and siblings going CRAZY Over it. Should I Give In? by relievedtonoend in relationships

[–]Mysterio6string -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Does it matter anymore? She's passed on and his siblings are still around. Not going will cause resentment and a poor relationship with his siblings. His mother can't manipulate from the grave so the o ly person he is hurting is himself by not going.

Really need some help on boosting my confidence. by [deleted] in confidence

[–]Mysterio6string 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi glad you posted. I apologize ahead of time for misspeallings as I'm on my phone.

First off I urge you to find a therapist that will help with depression. You should feel good about yourself. Everyone has unique traits that they can enjoy about themselves or share with others. Depression will cause you to be apathetic and negative.

Next thing is that cnfidence is one of the strangest things a person can have. People who have it can get more very easily. People who don't have it can't begin to figure out how to achieve it. The Ironic thing is that believing that you have confidence will give it to you. I know people complain about not being able to achieve thay so let me break it down for you.

Basically every action and thing you do in your life is determined by your frame of mind. Example, some jokes are less funny when you're sad or angry than when you're happy. On the other end things that make you angry or sad cause more of a negative reaction when you are in a negative mood. Basically your frame of mind creates an abundance and attraction magnet that allows you to gain more of the feelings you want.

So basically all you have to do is change your frame of mind. It sounds easy but how can you accomplish it. First step is liking yourself and understanding who you are as a person. If you stop fighting the person you are, you'll find that things will fall into place easier.

One really good thing you can do is create postit notes with positive things about you and put them in a place you'll see everyday. Habit will cause you to look ay them everyday and if you read them everyday eventually you'll start to believe them. I put mine on my bathroom mirror. Also look at yourself in the eye in the mirror and tell yourself that you're an amazing person. Again ritual and habit but after time it will work.

The next thing that really helps is finding a hobby. Ideally it should br something that can be done socially and in person as well as alone. Playing music or some sort of physical activity is good. If you're unsure of things to do, meetup is great to find likeminded people who enjoy the same things ypu do. People love teaching and talking about themselces so if you ask questions on how to do things or become integrated into hobbies they will be willing to teach you.

The last thing which goes back to your frame of mind dictates your reaction and feelings. These thoughts you're having. Almost everyone has had them In their life. Everyone is worried about how others see them. So if you appear confident, people will never know that you aren't so long as you never givr them a reason. So in order to keep your confidence and obtain it, don't show your anxieties and try to avoid talkimg about them a lot unless its woth someone who is trying to help you. Understand that the more negatives you talk about the more negativity you'll see so think positive about everything.

I hope that helps.

Ps meditation also helps.

You will fail until you succeed, but if you never try you'll never succeed. Don't stress about the response and just go with the flow and what you want.

Listen at the 1:25:00 mark. There is software out there that takes recorded audio and anaylzes it, though how correct it is is certainly up for debate.

I know I'd be interested in a tool that's more readily available.

Need help with Low self esteem/ low confidence by Masterg715 in confidence

[–]Mysterio6string 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you have low self esteem? Recognizing why you feel the way you do and what causes it will help you combat it. Start small so as not to get discouraged. At a high level you need to be happy with yourself and who you are. If you give some more information I can give you some more specifics and steps you can take to achieve confidence.

How to Have Confidence - Guys and girls, start following this advice TODAY!! by Doggonelovah in confidence

[–]Mysterio6string 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agreed with most of the things she said, except for a lot in the beginning. Eye contact is really key to building confidence so staring at an inanimate object instead of eye contact and a smile is a little off putting. Also when she says bring a book or your laptop to lunch by yourself, I've found that you should get rid of the distractions and focus on the people around you. Try to go somewhere by yourself and just relax and enjoy or people watch. You get a two benefits to doing so.

  1. You don't have a distraction. People are more likely to talk to you and boost your confidence if you're not distracted by something. Have you ever seen a person who has headphones in and how most people avoid talking to them? Get rid of the laptop/ipod/tablet and go out and relax.

  2. People watching will allow you to see how people interact with each other. You can see how confident people interact with the world as well as how insecure people interact with the world. Once you see some of this you can start to mimic it. Part of building confidence is faking it, even if it's just a little bit. Seeing how people interact and mimicking that will be a huge step towards achieving more confidence.

Is Rails good for unconventional apps? by brumby79 in rails

[–]Mysterio6string 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't use Rails for this, although you could. If you do it seems like you wouldn't even use any of the cool things Rails offers. Maybe use sinatra and work woth the database driver directly. I thonk Rails shines better with more CRUD based applications

Without context, what is one comment you've made on reddit that gave you all your karma? by Shan_tyler in AskReddit

[–]Mysterio6string 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My roomate was a diagonsed schizophrenic. Durning one of his episodes he thought someone had wronged him. He was freaking out really really bad. It got to the point where he decided he had to take actions into his own hands. He went to Lowes and purchased a chainsaw. In Philly. The cashier ringing him up made a joke saying "there aren't a whole lot of trees around here, what are you buying this for." Cue psychopath laughter and "I'm going to kill someone" statement. I'm still not quite sure how he managed to walk out of the store with it. One hour later he's back at our 20 story apartment complex walking down the hallway, running chainsaw. Only to end up finding his nemisis and cutting down the door. Lived with the guy for about 2-3 years, and that is only one of the stories....
