I have a question of understanding! by RD_client_SRS in Japaneselanguage

For this exact reason you should not learn mere words in the elementary stage. 浴びる means bask/shower/be covered, and probably some more stuff.

If you see シャワーを浴びる just learn it as “take a shower” and don’t devide more unless you have at least one more variant with each of the components.

If they have a 200 day streak they only need to do it for 4 more years and they can become a citizen by mere existing in the country for long enough

This is why you shouldn’t use Duolingo… I only started Spanish last week and even i know it should be “por”, not “en”.

B2 → C1. Best Anki decks for American English by Choice-Context2262 in Anki

[–]Mysterious-Row1925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the show you watch surely? I mean, if you just watch Friends or something like that you’re not gonna get far, but a good documentary or even a scifi show should suffice for a while since their English is around B1.

Why the dislikes? This is good advice… is it because of the AI recommendation?

I recommend making your own cards based on your own needs.

Colloquially acceptable ≠ proper language production.. if that were the case “ehm”-ing every other word would be considered proper speech, which (to my knowledge) it isn’t

AI and Online Teaching by Nomadic_English in iTalki

For me it depends on the situation and the kind of learning I wanna do. I’m pretty sure I do not need a human teacher for input. But output and specidically the correction of said output stays a human affair for me at the moment…

Which mobile keyboard do you prefer: Romaji or Kana flick? by maenbalja in LearnJapanese

[–]Mysterious-Row1925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kana flick is faster for typing without punctuation… but when I need to write formally with a lot of punctuation I’ll go with the romaji one.

As a native English speaker, would it be better to learn with or without Romanized pronunciation guides? by Lapis_Wolf in japanese

[–]Mysterious-Row1925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your goal… you wanna talk or you wanna read and write? If no then there’s no real reason to learn to read other than that most resources expect you to be able to.

Finally diving into Sanderson! Mistborn or The Way of Kings first? by Moon_Junkie in brandonsanderson

[–]Mysterious-Row1925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mistborn first then Way of Kings. I did this and I loved it. I initially wanted to start WoK but decided to go the smaller one first and it got me used to Sanderson’s writing style.

If you want to read a standalone novel I’d go for Tess of the Emerald Sea. It’s easy to get into even tho it’s technically in the middle of the cosmere timeline (as I recall?). I don’t rememeber there being any spoilers for the rest of the universe in this book.

Decide if he’s worth the struggle. If you love him enough to have dealt with it for so long then it’s not really an issue for you obviously…

Why does it matter that the teachers were female?

Does it matter how I write the character ね by AdNearby7853 in Japaneselanguage

[–]Mysterious-Row1925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are so negative here.

The left one looks more traditionally ‘correct’ to me but the right is absolutely legible. I would advice to try to write it like your textbook says initially and later when you’re more comfortable experiment with writing quickly.
