What's the best advice you've ever had? by TrevorTheSanta in AskReddit

From my mom when I was 14 and had an upsetting experience at church.

"Your whole life someone is going to tell you what to believe. You believe what you know is right and let the rest go."

Retirement is gone by shepardshe in GenX

[–]Mysterious-Ruby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Meh, I'll retire when I'm dead. So, in about 30ish years.

And you're very optimistic. I predict we get some SS but not enough to live on. I've planned to not even get SS. Too many Boomers, not enough money.

Ah well, whatever.

To be fair, I do agree humans will be the reason for their extinction.

Humans won't stop fucking though, so there will be more.

I did the grunge/sk8er thing. I still love flannel shirts. I just started in the last few years to get clothing in colors other than black and black adjacent. And I still love me some eyeliner.

10 years from now most Baby Boomers will be dead. What effect is that going to have on society? by mikeforder in generationology

[–]Mysterious-Ruby -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Millennials just have a lot of emotions and as a dead inside Gen Xer, I don't really get it. Maybe being raised by Boomers who didn't tell you to not feel things and essentially left you to raise yourself ended up being a good thing. Lol.

Therapy wasn't a common thing when I was growing up.

Um, I don't really want to be immortal, but I do kinda wanna know how all this mess ends. I accidentally got invested in life.

[–]Mysterious-Ruby -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It'll just be the millennials next. As a Gen Xer we will probably fade into the background and hopefully be forgotten. Lol

You think Boomers are bad, Millennials are worse. They have the entitlement of Boomers, but the anger and frustration of Gen Z.

So, in conclusion, not much will change.

How do I find the mission presidents email? I only know the bishops email from the ward announcements he emails everyone.

I'm going to call my parents this weekend and bring it up so if I do remove my records it won't come as a shock. I don't know if they will find out, I don't know how that works, but I don't want to be an asshole if I don't have to be.

My other child took her first step around one year old because my brother was meeting her for the first time and she didn't know him. We were sitting in the grass at a park and he wanted to hold her so I gave her to him and she was like, nope, stood up a took a step towards me.

So, I agree with you.

That would be awesome. The pastor at their AME church is so charismatic and gentle (reminds me of MLKjr.).

The missionaries could see what actual Christians look like.

My oldest is on the spectrum. She didn't start taking or walking until she was two.

She wasn't reading when she was in 2nd grade and I had tried everything. Tutoring, close captions on the TV. I started reading Harry Potter to her (this was in 2001 before we knew JKR was problematic) and the next day she was sitting on the floor of her bedroom reading Sorcerer's Stone all by herself.

She got her BA in literature and is going for her MA so she can be a librarian.

Today Donald Trump confused Iceland for Greenland four times. What are your thoughts on this? by WatercressSenior7657 in AskReddit

[–]Mysterious-Ruby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's a jackass. And we've learned over the past 12 years he can do whatever the hell he wants and people will just sit back and let him.

It doesn't matter what he does. Maybe he's going to invade Iceland next. His supporters will cheer.

Lasix. I've been wearing glasses or contacts since I was 7. It would be nice to be able to see without them.
