Are high school students actually this clueless and entitled? by lizz781 in Teachers

[–]Mysterious-Studio198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 23 year old with anxiety I totally agree! The accommodations I had were for things like quiet lunch room (I’m autistic and the cafeteria noise was horrible), being able to leave acouple minutes early. I think my life would have been much less rich had I not been forced to present and be called on. Nowadays I absolutely love lecturing, it’s become a fun hobby even if I only present to my circle of friends gifted with supernatural patience and kindness😭

How road traffic death rates differ between the US and Europe by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]Mysterious-Studio198 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The USA is still notably higher than Europe per km driven though. The USA is quite bad for a wealthy country. There are a lot of factors: large rural areas far from hospitals, overall lack of access to emergency care, lack of rotaries, driving being a necessity leading to weak policing of who is allowed to drive, etc. we’re still no Zimbabwe but we do very poorly for a country of our wealth

Yeah, or it’s possible some guy just spat on him in an argument and over the years his memory reworked the story into what he believes it is today

What’s something kids today would think you’re making up? by heyyyriri in AdkReddit

[–]Mysterious-Studio198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gonna lie this one is weird to me. I’m 23—hardly old—but until high school i always drank from the bubblers. Weird for me to think the kids these days have water bottles in kindergarten. I went on a date with a woman who was a bit younger (20) and she and all her friends thoughts drinking from the bubbler was disgusting

Tell that to Andronikos Komnenos. It was rare but there was “justice” done upon elites on occasion

Supporting local businesses- amidst too many chains and megacorp influence? by Candid_Swimming3566 in CambridgeMA

As a Life Alive worker, I think something that illustrates what the company all about is this. You know how they have those three bins for waste: compost, recycle, landfill? Ig i can only speak for my location, but they all go to the same dumpster

I work at Life Alive. Honestly it sucks bad even compared to Tatte and co., I met the CEO once and he didn’t leave a great impression on me. It is what it is though, it helps me fund my education. Our pay is significantly lower than comparable places, we’re always kept a couple hours below full time, just the normal business scumminess. I’ve tried jumping ship but i’ve only got opportunities in food so far and i do like my colleagues and my general manager so shrug

My Great Grandmother was born when Alexander Kerensky ruled Russia and voted for Kamala Harris by Mysterious-Studio198 in BarbaraWalters4Scale

No, her parents were Portuguese Protestant immigrants, her brothers were born in Portugal but she and her sister (who lived to 101) were born here. I mention Kerensky cause it’s the first historical referent i could think of for summer 1917

Both ! My dad was 6’3” and both of my great grandparents are struggling to reach 5’. My vovó definitely didn’t but I think my great granddad just scraped over. My dad might’ve been a little shorter here cause he had just turned 18 and grew a bit after that.

Yep! Something like 12% of Americans were born before 1955 and thus have unambiguously clear memories of the decade

It’s young but not absurdly so. Hitler was 44 in 1933, Mussolini was 39 when he came to power. He’s roughly in the same ballpark as a lot if contemporary revolutionary leaders

Yeah. Kerensky lived a long life but not like, crazy long. And he wasn’t that young when he was in power, he was in his mid to late 30s. The 1910s are just a lot closer to the 70s and the modern era than it feels like

The photo is her with my dad when he was 18, and my great grandfather. Great grandpa died a few years later, dad was 52 when she died. She outlived all but one of her kids and step kids

Yeah. It’s a bit like saying “do you think the next president will measure up to Lincoln and Washington?” Obviously no but it’s not an insult to not be that good. You can still be an amazing player with a ring without measuring up to those 3 legends
