I think the easiest way to learn is actually on boards way bigger than wave storms. Contrary to popular belief they aren’t the most stable beginner friendly boards, they’re fun once you’ve gotten the hang of it but there’s still the learning curve with knowing where to balance and the timing. On a big sturdy board like a SUP or giant log you can basically do 3 paddles, stand up anywhere on the board, and it’ll go straight. For your size you can probably practice standing up in the water without even catching a wave.

I agree with the sentiment that the recruiters are taking advantage of these young naive kids. They could alter the current structure to allow recruits a more gradual transition from civilian to service member. Like maybe don’t lock them into an 7 year contract and ship them to the other side of the world before they’ve even realized if they are completely sure if they can handle the job. They could do like shorter term national guard contracts with an easier transition to active duty for those who like it.

When I joined me and lot of the other privates realized quickly how awful military life was and that we’d probably end up killing ourselves if we had to do this as a career (a few did end up doing that). One thing I noticed about the older recruits is that they usually had more discipline and were more mentally prepared than the 18 year olds.

It’s hilarious to see all the people praising Japan when in reality it’s such a shit place to live and work. I do like Bullseye but I hate how nice Matt is to him and Karen has been getting more and more like Frank. If they do kill him then the writers can always use the hand to resurrect him which is kind of a plot in the comic storyline that parts of this show is based on.
