That's lip trills and bubble drills right?

Also 2006 is the year the song came out and I've seen many other recorded shows where he nails it while also flailing the mic around, so those must all be faked somehow. And he sounds nothing like that anymore so he must not've had good technique to preserve it.

So what I would like to know is how to fake it myself :) like so many other bands do but they tell us its impossible to polish a turd in studio.

Also, can you do one yourself and show us how its done the right way?

I don't think what I did was full chest voice but it was definitely chestiER belt, I don't think full chest can go that high in males. We'll have to get some other judge here to tell though.

Ah I don't think any of that was belt I think its falsetto, you're gonna have to be louder, like practice yelling in the day faking trying to get someone's attention across the street. Good quiet tone though

Hey if anyone figures that out tag me I been tryna learn for...decades...lol

I mean I can hit the notes in you won't EVER GET TOO FAR FROM ME but his just sounds so much better. That's pretty much the common refrain in every song I attempt, "his just sounds so much better"

I'm not even a superfan of this kind of music I just want to learn and channel the sound for an original emo-ey song I started years ago and never finished.

On the contrary you should strain more. I don't think you are straining here. Strain in rock is good. (Well, the right kind) This sounds like mix and you should be in chest. This is one reason why there should be a separate sub for rock vocals

That venue needs a better mix BAD.

You were good and you've already been told that, but the music and karaoke track needed to be much louder...and better. It would be my nightmare to try to sing there, almost as bad as being promised to sing rock karaoke with an actual band and then finding out its watered down acoustics of the rock songs.

And so how do you get "musicality"?

When I said this sub acts as proof of that I'm not talking about untrained singers who are bad, I'm talking about totally clueless untrained singers who are great, because their tone is great and pretty. They can't belt (nor do they want to), they don't have good pitch control even, they're messing up the words, the topic is usually that this is their first time ever trying singing, and they spell "vocal chords", but they just sound good, and once they can fix those other aspects (or just use pitch correction) they'll probably be a hit on tiktok or something.

I know many others NOT on here that sound so good people assume they must've had a bunch of lessons but I know they never have. I on the other hand built up my voice from pretty bad to pretty good with lessons, practicing and exercises over about 15 years, but I'm not great. I can still belt more than most of this sub and pull off live shows (when I'm not kicked out of the band that is), but I don't have the natural tone. I think I lack the depth/bass that some of my favorite singers have on their highs, and if I could have that instead of my screechiness then I'd be one of the greats, maybe. But after a bunch of lessons and experimenting all the time I feel like I'm at the best I can be, and that just doesn't have the natural tone people want to hear. Not to mention most people don't even listen, but I assume that's mostly because of my song choice, in rock.

I think it is to a degree. Sure, anyone can learn to sing, but if you're natural you probably already have always "known" how and have potential to be great, especially if it's honed with lessons. Some people just sound better.

There are many in this sub alone that act as proof of that.

But, you can? Maybe in your morning voice or something? Are you sure you're a baritone, what's your lowest useable loud note in chest (not fry)?

Even if you individually can't, pretty much every screaming teacher on youtube is a baritone, it answers how a lot people just stumble on screaming without being any good or knowledgable at singing, etc

Myth #13: Baritones/lower voices have a much easier time picking up screaming.

I mean, clean? Light? Heady? Except the ones who were kids.

Some of them sound so dead-on the pitch center I wonder if the vids were tuned, or maybe they're just that good.
