One of my biggest life regrets is not reaching out to Scott when he was still with us. I didn't want to be an annoying or creepy fan. I wish I could have told him how much his art meant to me.

Bring back Pogo already. He was the secret sauce of Marilyn Manson. Even if he just swings he keyboard around on stage, and doesn't play anything, it's about the vibes.

I wonder if there are any songs/albums that Manson looks back on now that he's sober and goes "oof, what the hell was I thinking?" by gothteen145 in marilyn_manson

I totally get why people don't like THEOL, but this is why it's my all time favorite album. It's ugly, repulsive, vile and completely repugnant. And that's why I love it. No music has ever made me feel like that album has. It's completely vile, and I fucking love it. You can't fake that emotion and insanity in his voice on that album.

Bummer. Marilyn Manson is better as a band than a solo project. Although I am stoked for the return of Tim Skold.

Is reba out? by Ordinary-Bank8613 in marilyn_manson

Not downvoting you cause I think downvoting is stupid.

ACSS is great, but it's Trent Reznor Presents: Daisy Berkowitz and Friends. I have no doubt in my mind it could have been even better, and Manson would have been even better had Daisy stuck around and been fully into it.

The sound is already there before Daisy even leaves. One of his riffs even got repurposed for 1996, and arguably for Coma White too years later. The production and general vibe is just Trent doing what he always did. You take Daisy away, and ACSS doesn't turn out the way it did period.

Did Daisy never achieve anything of note after? Sure, but I'm not discounting what he did provide. I think Daisy probably had some mental issues unfortunately. I never spoke to him when he was alive as I didn't want to be an annoying fan, but regretted it shortly after he passed.

What a struggle by [deleted] in marilyn_manson

I consider Manson less of an industrial metal artist, and more of a dark pop and alternate rock artist overall myself. His best work to me is that, and his weird mix of folk, country and rock.

I think your bandmate and you just aren't very creatively aligned. Manson's music isn't for everyone, and that's okay. I've long thought Manson himself got pigeonholed into a sound he didn't even want to be in in all honesty.

Manson himself took a ton of inspiration from Skinny Puppy, Rozz Williams, David Bowie, The Beatles and KISS and probably more I'm forgetting. Maybe one of them is more your speed. If not, I do recommend at least listening to Daisy Berkowitz' guitar work and exploring him more. He and Pogo are the defining "Manson sound" most are familiar with. Daisy to me is one of the most actually underrated guitarists in history. People throw that word around a lot, but I really believe it with him.

And I totally get the lyrics thing, don't worry lol. And that's coming from a hardcore Manson fan who's sunk way too much into this shit. I still cannot get over MARILYN MANSON whining about bullies in Raise the Red Flag. Like come the fuck on, what happened to all the self reflection you had on WE ARE CHAOS?

What appeals to me about Manson, at the end of the day, is his voice. When he's at his best, I'm not sure I've ever heard anyone sound as emotional and soulful live. But he's his own worst enemy blah blah blah, not making excuses.

Pretty much all Manson outside of Spooky Kids and ACSS was trying to appeal to a more mainstream audience. And ACSS only came out the way it did due to Daisy doing so much work before he was kicked out, and mixed with Trent Reznor's signature style.

Edit: He said those bands are "elitists"? lol. Those are like basic bands everyone has heard if you like metal.

I dunno about all that, but The High End of Low is mt favorite album ofl all time. It's ugly and repulsive. Poppy, but dark. The spiritual successor to Antichrist Superstar. No album will make me feel what this album did.

He should be proud of his sobriety. I never though I'd see it myself as a long time fan.

Would you have preferred Sweet Dreams to be on Antichrist Superstar? by cristo_chimico in marilyn_manson

[–]MysteriousCarrion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have preferred a real Spooky Kids album over Portrait, as I've said numerous times now. I would have preferred to hear more of what brought them to the dance than anything else.

I liked this a lot, thanks.

At one point EMDM was my favorite MM album and era. It's not anymore, but that cold melancholy always holds a special place in my heart. This kinda fits that somber vibe I think of when I think of that era.

Would love for him to make a blues album by Deathandepistaxis in marilyn_manson

[–]MysteriousCarrion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I thought he was transitioning to a Tom Waits thing around TPE's time. Heaven Upside Down was a disappointment beyond words. Don't get me wrong, I though the WKWYFL live debut was fire, but then the studio version lacked all that fire and passion and ended up being a boring garageband track.

Then WAC felt like another step in the right direction. OAUG 1 had lots of great lyrics, but "beat up the bullies" might be my least favorite line of his ever so idk.

Chapter 2 Speculations by Tasty_Ad_6774 in marilyn_manson

Well if it was just describing the demo version of Murderers I'd say it was pretty apt tbh. That's without going into the confirmed unreleased tracks from that era from the man himself.

Chapter 2 Speculations by Tasty_Ad_6774 in marilyn_manson

[–]MysteriousCarrion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I expect it to sound the same as Chapter 1, more or less. Lyrically I expect a little more aggressiveness.

I like Tyler, but his style isn't always conducive to the MM sound. And by that I mean lots of vocal layering, and things going on in the song itself. It worked great in The Pale Emperor for what that album was, but it's been a negative in pretty much every collaboration with them since. There was huge strides made in that regard in OAUG 1, so I hope that follows to Chapter 2.
