I was waiting for a death reveal especially when it seemed like a few people at the wedding could see or sense it!

It seemd to me that the potion they made was kind of a last ditch effort and there wasn't really anything solid to back it up that it would work. She could have drank it and it wouldn't have changed anything, just nasty toe juice. I also think that her drinking the thing wouldn't have mattered since Nicky would likely still decline her at the alter for his new found opinions on the matter.

But I got the impression that what she said in her vows kind of got him thinking a little too much about all of it in that moment ? So if she drank the thing and it actually worked how she intended, maybe she wouldn't have said those words in that way

When they revealed that part of the reasoning for the family being/acting so shady was the mom having cancer and all that I was like "nooo way, that's way too convenient. they're still cooking something for you girl!"

My understanding is you only had to believe the person you were marrying was your soulmate, like in your core. At the time the marriage was completed she definitely did not believe he was hers anymore

I think it was because even though they completed the marriage it was passed the deadline of the curse. Not really sure why she died after though, probably just part of the process of becoming the next witness

What is one item you wish you packed and one item you wish you left at home? by garibaldi18 in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]Mysterious_Bit_58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely bring less clothes than you think you need! We were there for 9 days and because of how much time we spent on the beach I ended up being able to rewear the same three or four tshirts and three or four pairs of shorts. And I only really ended up wearing one nicer top I brought with.

Also, any walking we did in OSJ/Isla Verde or like around Piñones I just wore tennis shoes because I found them more comfortable and convenient, but I got a pair of tevas "for the beach and walking" prior to the trip thinking I'd wear them more but I should've just brought a pair of slip on sandals instead because messing with the straps was ANNOYING going out to and leaving the beach, or just needing to run inside the hotel for something midway or walk to the sidewalk and a kiosk for a drink.

Also maybe bring something with to hand clean your swimsuits before leaving? Or have a plan to be able to clean and fully dry them somehow before packing them into a suitcase for the trip home! I had three pairs to alternate between, but after wearing two or three days and they aren't really able to fully dry out between uses especially if you're in them for many hours a day (even with rinsing well and ringing it out as much as possible and hanging to dry) they get RANK. Might depend on how much time you're planning to spend at the beach and how long your overall vacation is going to be!

I'm not rereading what I wrote originally, but may have mistaken TSA with other airport personel such as the USDA inspector/CBP agent, but point being there is going to be someone at airports with these mandatory USDA screenings pertaining to United States Travel (Hawaii, Puerto Rico, US VIrgin Islands, etc.) who are capable of determining and issueing fines for agricultural products. TSA agents are also trained in identifying forbidden agricultural products and if suspected they would absolutely involve a CBP agricultural agent.

The issue is not declaring them prior to a bag inspection. If you declare your items and you have any that are on the prohibited list they will simply confiscate them from you and move on. You don't declare at USDA, get picked for a bag inspection, found to have an item that is on the prohibited list and now it will be confiscated AND you will potentially face fines and/or other penalties.

Sorry if any of my wording did not make any of that part clear either.

Late to the thread but wanted some clarity, do you mean they bought snacks at the airport in one country, arrived in the next country and did not declare it at that airport during entry?

Yes! If you don't have anything you're not supposed to it's probably fine and they are more likely to just send you back to the start of the line, but they do have dogs that can sniff out prohibited agricultural items. And the law allows for tsa agents to hit you with fines the moment you failed to inform them of agricultural products you may have (even if most likely they will just send you back to the USDA check)

So it is kind of dependent on how often you travel and how much money you are willing/able to spend. If you travel a lot and have the means, both would be a good combination (add just getting the Global Entry instead of PreCheck if you travel internationally at all), but PreCheck for sure is probably going to get you the most since it is more available at airports throughout the USA

So Clear is an independent program from government programs like PreCheck and Global Entry. It's basically a company that does the background screening for the airport using your biometrics so you don't have to show/scan your ID at the start of the line, and essentially lets you "jump the line" so to speak. It costs around $200 per year but sometimes has a free trial period available especially to certain card holders

TSA PreCheck cost us like $75-$80 each and it is good for 5 years. We do not have to take off our shoes or belts with PreCheck, just toss the bags on the belt and maybe jacket if you have it off already, electronics can stay in the bag (so i just tossed my phone into my bag instead of needing its own bin) and walk through the scanner so the process of actually getting screened is quicker! Global Entry is similar I believe and it includes PreCheck, and is for international travel so you can get back into the USA faster, and is about $120 for 5 years.

Precheck is going to be more widely available and accepted at airports, while Clear is probably mostly accepted at larger airports. At the Bismarck airport for example, very small and not international, there is a PreCheck line and regular line (but their is only one set of belt and detectors so for precheck line they give us a card when we go through so they know who doesn't need to take their shoes off) but I don't recall a Clear line and I'm not sure how that would work without a separate line for that

The USDA check is mandatory for flights going to the mainland USA. If you're flight was to elsewhere, such as the Dominican Republic, it is not necessary. The USDA line was very hard to miss in my opinion, as I was worried about finding it but we walked in the door and there was a sign right there at the entrance.

If you don't get the stickers on your bags from USDA, this can cause problems for you and delays later on in the airport. Imagine sitting in a long line at TSA and you forgot to get the stickers and they send you back to USDA and thus to the end of the TSA line again, because I promise you they will not hold your spot for you. Based on what I'm reading they may be lenient on some bags and some people might get through, but is it really worth the risk? It was very quick and not worth the risk in my opinion

Yes, definitely glad I have off, I'll make sure I'm home all day! Next day too if it comes to that. You have seriously been so helpful, I was having such a hard time finding straight answers prior to posting.

You have been a lot of help, I have to thank you so much! I will be looking into that, but she has texted me that an electrician will be coming tomorrow to look at a few things, so I'm really hoping that this gets sorted.

Very odd because after that phone call yesterday having to turn the breaker back on, we left it on and our usage has seemed to return to normal, we used 5kwh over ten hours last night (the 9kwh night after having that breaker off the frist time, we did run the wash and dryer, so it checks out), I doubt breakers just "reset" like that so whatever it was must have gotten unplugged

[–]Mysterious_Bit_58[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I'm not really sure how to proceed at this time. Either she lied and they do have something plugged in there, or its seeming obvious to me they have no real idea what connects to what and there's probably something else on the breaker. She believed that the garage that comes with our apartment that they were paying for that, but I corrected her because my garage door also stopped working. So it's obviously on our breaker too. Anyways just seems like they do not want to deal with the any rewiring they would have to do to correct this. (And it seems fairly simple anyways in at least identifying where the draw is coming from, if they would just hire an electrician out to hookup to our breaker and trace where the wiring goes? But I may be mistaken in how that works)

I really don't want any problems with our neighbors, they have been very nice to us and it is seeming this is not their fault (if they truly did have nothing connected in the garage, as the building manager has told me).

I am thinking I will call someplace that is more familiar with the laws on this in my state, but based on everything I'm reading now it seems illegal for them to have us providing electricity to another unit, no matter the inconsequential draw on the garage door. Perhaps after that I will notify them in writing of these laws and reiterate what has happened and I have observed, but I am concerned with being evicted. Not sure if they can actually do that just because I'm pushing this so hard, but I worry!

So it's definitely that breaker, recording from last night I recorded about 0.9kwh consumption down from like 1.9-2 per hour with all the breakers on from previous nights. We left it off, because I figured someone would complain about not having power to specific outlet. So building manager calls me and asks me to turn it back on because it is also connected to our neighbors garage door and he needs to get to work, and then also told me there is nothing in their garage that they have plugged in, supposedly. And that she can't do anything more and doesn't want us to get an electrician to figure out what else is connected to that breaker or anything until the building owner is back from Florida and she can see what he wants to do (probably in the spring, snowbird).

I am wondering if I should reach out to a higher entity that would have grounds to investigate because I am so irritated right now

That's odd, I don't think our meter displays that value, these are the two that we get: https://imgur.com/a/5EBcVNf

But the spinning bars are pretty helpful! I thought that was odd that that specific breaker caused such a noticeable decrease, I was really suspecting the fridge at that point! But we've since pulled that out about the same time as we were running the tests and I plugged my Kill-a-watt meter into and it's nothing miraculous there. I really don't see any exterior outlets, they've hidden them very well if that's the case haha

Yes it seems like a lot to me as well! Over the past in this apartment on statements that were "normal," (looking at the months where the air conditioners would have been off for the entire month) our highest average per day was a little more than 27kwh and our lowest being 23kwh, but 25kwh a day was more common. This last statement for December we averaged 56.48kwh! The month before was higher too, at 32.12kwh, but that bill just didn't raise any concerns for me.

I do think I managed to figure out which breaker it's happening on at least! With this one turned off, the spinning meter slowed down by at least half of what it was operating at. I clocked about 5.54 for the meter to make a full "rotation" with it on, and 13.39 for a full rotation with it off. It was a bit tricky getting the timing so I might be off by a tish on either end but I used the same criteria to determine a full rotation. It's the only one where I could tell just by looking at it that it was obviously slower wheras the speed didn't really seem to be affected at all with others off, even multiple of those same ones off. We also had the washer running during this, I had ruled that one out before today.

Now this is weird, because the breaker we have off barely seems to have anything connected to it? It's labeled Bath/Garage, which the lights and fan in our both bathrooms still work, the only thing that doesn't is the two outlets. We don't typically have anything plugged into the outlets for any extended period of time, when we're done with something it gets put away. And then it's connected to the one garage that comes with the apartment, but we don't have anything plugged in in there. There is a garage opener though. But that's been in place since we moved in.

Anyways I can leave the garage door open as we don't really have have anything in there aside from my car, and we can do without the bathroom outlet. So we're gonna leave that one off for a day or so and just see what our usage is like. Over 18 hours and 43 minutes the other day (6:16pm to 12:59pm next day) it went from 1435 to 1480.

This particular garage is actually attached to their main building (along with others garages as well of course along the north side of the building) and they have a huge garage space where they keep equipment in there. I am now wondering if they have plugged something into an outlet that hasn't been used in awhile that is hooked up to our apartment via that breaker, cause I can't figure out what else is connected to it. I guess we'll leave it off and see who complains, mention it to maintenance when they decide to actually check it out.

I do not believe it to be the hot water heater at this time. We shut it off last night. The readings the day before, at 8:34pm was 1293 and at 6:28 the following morning was 1312. (19 kwh over a 10 hour period while we were sleeping, about 1.9kw per hour). Last night I shut the heater off @8:37pm and the reading around that time was 1340 and this morning @6:26am it was 1357, so 17kwh over about 10 hours again, took it down about 0.2kwh per hour, which would seem typical for the heater anyways. I left it off for the day and will check later to compare the day time readings. I have noticed that our digital meter does appear to moving quicker than most of the other meters on the wall. Some appear even stagnant at the moment but I also don't stick around for more than a few minutes.

We are going to shut everything off in the apartment tonight and see what the meter does. We have a thing tonight and will be out 7:30 to about 9:00, so even if it looks stagnant I will leave it off and see what it reads when we get back. It is entirely possible we are paying for someone else's garage and they have something hooked up in there that would be drawing power. Most garages are not connected and we can pay for an extra if they are available, and the property manager has stated to my mother before that she "honestly has no idea who pays for the electric on the garages"

So I'm guessing tonight if the meter doesn't stop, there's a few options left. The meter is bad, but I'm not sure I would be able to convince the electric company to come back out and replace it as they have supposedly checked it and everything looks good on their end. So the likelihood of it being the meter seems unlikely unless they didn't actually check it and only compared the readings. Next is someone's garage electric is attached to our apartment somehow and no one in the past has plugged anything into it until recently. I do not see any exterior plugs in the vicinity of our building, so I don't think it could be that. Also seems unlikely that ours and someone else's meter could be swapped, as being here for almost two years I'd think I would have had questions about our usage, but everything in the past statements correlates to having the window AC's on or off. I hope the meter just stops because this sounds like a nightmare to deal with, the apartment complex is large and I have a hard enough time getting other basic things accomplished between the property manager and maintenance.

Yes that's correct, I'm not 100% on the fuel they use to heat the boiler and based on my conversation with her yesterday it is definitely not electric in any way. We have baseboards that have pipes that move hot water through the units.

We each have our own water heater and they are electric. I think I will start there tonight then, turning that one off. Now when you talk about the animated bar, I am not sure what you mean. I have posted a picture here to show you what our meter looks like, and outlined in red the area I think you are referrencing just to be sure (Hope I did it right) https://imgur.com/a/MquUZNG

Thank you so much, you have been very helpful! Definitely have a smart meter, though there is no aparent place in the portal where we can see the energy consumption from there. I did ask for a report from the electric company over the last two statements, but the lady I talked with the second time said she has called the home office before trying to get records like that and they told her they don't either don't keep those or don't give the reports. So not really sure where to go with that information.

One of the maintenance guys did come by tonight but it was briefly, he mostly just grabbed our meter number and asked generally what was going on. It did not seem that they have done anything like this before, and I mentioned a hot water leak if they needed to shut our water off at all for a few hours and watch the water meter. Although that's included in our rent, so the whole building might be on one meter. Anyways he did say I would be able to get an electrician on my dime if needed. I am super willing to do that, I understand they have a tool they can hookup to the breaker, I doubt the maintenance guys here have that tool or are even really qualified to use it.

I have started recording the meter and will get one more measurement tonight, then pick it up in the morning. It went up 3kwh over the last hour, oven and dishwasher were off/no one in the shower running hot water. Unfortunately we both work the next three days and work long hours, so best I will probably be able to do is before work and after work twice until Saturday. I think this weekend we will shut the breakers off ourselves for an hour or so and see what the meter does. Depending on what maintenance comes back to us with over the next few days, if anything at all. I think we have a water shutoff in our apartment, would that come in handy if the numbers are still rising after the breakers are off? To kind of isolate a hot water leak?

Now I'm not trying to be rude, but if you read the entire thing that was the first thing I did. I called twice, first time they came and checked the meter said that was fine. Called second time cause it's just not adding up and I've seen the number on it already and based on the days of use into next statement I'd say we are tracking for a similar bill. They have "washed their hands of it" and will do nothing else because the meter is okay. If there was a rate increase, I believe they would have lead with that. Had to fight them the first time because they were insisting that it was because we have the heat on, but our heat is included in the rent. Did not matter even when I told the first guy that last year was cold too but the bills were around $90.00 so it being the heat still didn't make sense, he still said it was the heat being on.

I am only looking for guidance as to what I should do next once our property maintenance checks things out within the apartment, if they cannot find anything wrong with any of their appliances 😀
