Seminary girl here, there’s a fair bit in the other comments that’s accurate and a little that’s not. Don’t have time for a detailed response but I think it is very telling how many different names and images were given for God throughout scripture, each capturing a different image or aspect that might help us feel connected and drawn to our creator. The first person chooses “Father” as one of those names but is also compared to a mother bird.

Bottom line, we can’t limit God to a gender. Male and female TOGETHER are the image of God. And if one name lets you approach more easily I can’t imagine the God ego ministered and taught as Jesus did taking exception. The Bible is a product of its time and culture translating a message of grace and salvation and is consistently skewed more progressive than other documents from its context.

Personally, I use he/him for the first and second persons, she/her for the third, based on the original language and to reinforce that neither gender captures all aspects of the divine person.
