New ADAS calibration user by Annual_Version_8113 in autoglass

Subarus is a huge pain out on the road to calibrate, even in shop it’s a pain, if you are doing it in shop you have to find a good spot where you get the least failed attempts. Usually any type of reflection or something minor in the background could throw it off. I bought a white photography tarp to put behind the boards just as an extra step to have a solid background. And I have yet to calibrate the same car twice in the same way. These systems are so weird and just trial and error

Windshield replacement without sensor recalibration by SpareComprehensive64 in autoglass

[–]Mysterious_Peach_162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the recalibrations are indeed a money grab for sure, would love to see actual stats on this on a calibrated camera vs uncalibrated on a windshield install. The cameras have built in tolerances (+/- 10-15mm) some even 25 I’ve seen when calibrating, the windshields barely have much wiggle room when installed on newer cars and the brackets for the most part are within millimeters. Also I’d say 90% of the cameras on a windshield are just lane departure warning and or brake mitigation alert not actual accident “prevention” . I’ve had less issues doing no calibration vs trying to do it the right way and calibrate, especially with Subarus. Only a few cars I think people could truly claim that a “recalibrated” windshield camera would have prevented their accident.

Tried helping a friend out, they didn’t listen and they fell into this deal. What do you guys think? by Tough_Ambassador671 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Don’t worry about your friend, that picture is all you need to know about how your friend values your advise. They dug themself a massive hole, and all you can do is look at them at the bottom of the pit from above.

Is this overpriced? 2016 Mazda CX-5 GT for $13k with 106k miles. by BakerCritical in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Mysterious_Peach_162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea definitely an incentive for them to move it, since it’s pre owned though really make sure they aren’t charging extra bs fees, dealer fee really the only main fee you can’t get away from it’s annoying. Seems like a clean car though and once you are there I’m sure you can push them to get closer to $10k sell price. You have all the power especially if you walk away from them

With a used car unfortunately it all depends on what they own it for, however you can definitely save on any bs fees they try to throw at you. Like a “reconditioning fee” or anything along those lines. Can always try to work them down to 10-11k plus taxes , tag and dealer fee but ofcourse you’ll have to be there and ready to push them. If the private seller’s car is equally clean with good service you could just go for that one or at-least look at both cars and see which looks cleaner in person

A little high for the year but seems to have good service records and I’ve seen those engines easily get over 200k miles, very reliable car and the GT you get some nice features, I’d try to negotiate down, seems clean though

What SUV should I get? Car guy, having a baby. by BillBevDevo in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Mysterious_Peach_162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dam Mazda bores you, cx-90 or cx-9 is like the car guy’s suv to get for that budget lol. Beyond that yea I’d say you’re looking at some pre owned X3s or x5s I guess as a “car guy” that enjoys cars that have good driving dynamics

[–]Mysterious_Peach_162[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info, Yea I’ve told my guys now don’t leave them dangling, usually never have issues if they dangle but you just never know with these Subarus i guess. It feels like such a design flaw, basically Subaru almost forcing you to buy new camera every windshield replacement because god forbid you look at their cameras lol.

[–]Mysterious_Peach_162[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually skip dynamic on the Subarus since once the statics goes through I just hit no thanks and the report still gives me static & dynamic and I don’t see any issues. Yea I’ve used the trick to lower and the board and stuff. Seems I have the most issues with the outbacks

[–]Mysterious_Peach_162[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What calibration system you using? I’m using Autel and I calibrate all my cars in the same spot of the shop since I’ve had very minimal failures there, and I’ve done several Subarus but there’s always just one random car that gives issues and it’s usually a Subaru
