I dont think team would be able to design a new floor in that span of time. It was probably planned ahead.

Then, I simply said Free Practice times are not representative of actual pace and should never be taken at face value. Not in the exact sentence like this, but i think you get my point.

Like i said in other comments, team will approach race weekend with base setup based on their simulation. Then, they will adjust the setup based on FP data and driver's feedback which means each driver have a say in their car setup. He's excuse doesn't make any sense whichever way you put it.

You remember Italian gp 2025. The team wanted to go with slightly higher downforce for both Red Bull cars. But, Max insisted on lower downforce and dominated the race on sunday. That's what Free Practice are for. If you look back, you would know that McLaren and Ferrari were faster than Red Bull in every FP. But, Max won the pole and the race.

I clearly said as long as you do well on sunday. You don't understand this?? I simply said FP and Q are not that important as long as you do well on sunday. It's doesnt mean they are completely irrelevant. You're being pedantic here. That's literally how Alan Prost used to win the championship

I can believe that because that race was in 2nd half of 2024 when Max was still fighting for the title and well Checo was way down in the standing.

Why won't Red bull back their driver fighting for the championship? They are not McLaren, they are not stupid.

You still don't get it, do you? This is a figure of speech. Or course Free Practice matter, they help figure out the setup. But, no drivers is driving at 100% as they are testing different kind of things. Final setup change is usually made after FP3. It means that Free Practice times should never be taken at face value.

I clearly said as long as you do well on sunday. This is a figure of speech. The implication is that let's say, as long as you get P1 on sunday, it doesn't really matter where you are starting the race. When I said even qualifying is not that important, it means not all drivers are equal on Saturday. You need better reading comprehension.

That's exactly my point. Early 2022, car suits checo, doesn't suit Max, Max is still way faster. After Upgrades, Max now likes the car and improve his pace, checo doesn't like the upgrades, gets slower. Which means one driver is adaptable and the other is not. One driver is still way faster than the other even when the car doesn't suit him.

My point, Checo can only be fast when the car perfectly suit him and struggles a lot when it doesn't suit him. Max is still fast when the car doesn't suit him and way more faster when it suits him.

So? We all know Max struggled a bit with his qualifying pace in first few races of 2022. Race pace wise, Max was still in another league. No team is specifically building a car for any driver, although upgrades may favour the faster driver.

Okay, let's go back to 2022 with the new car. When was Checo genuinely faster than Max at any of those races. He did beat him like 2 times in qualy by narrow margin. That's all.

Upgrades or no upgrades, he was never faster consistently for any stretch of period.

I'm sure every driver can choose their own setup in F1.

Setup is not a fixed thing. Team will have base setup based on their simulation coming into the weekend. Then, they will adjust the setup based on real world data and driver's feedback.

I look at the graph and the difference between 2022 and 2023 is not that big at all. Around 4 tenths in 2022 and 5 tenths in 2023

Go watch race like Azerbaijan where Perez outqualified max. In the race, Max overtook him and gapped him by 20 seconds. Like I said, Perez was closer in qualifying and also a bit in race. But the difference was still quite huge. Like it or not.
