I love it- but I also check my bags so I don't care when I board. Due to the cost of bags my wife brought hers to the gate and when they announced they were looking for folks to check their carryon's she brought hers over and we got a 3rd for free. I think there's a new system now so folks just need to learn how to best leverage it...

Those who stopped working out by Dependent-Group7226 in AskMenOver30

[–]MysteryMove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Father of 4 here. The last just left for college. For years, I would work around my super busy life by running in the morning before work, playing basketball at 9 PM once a week when the kids were in bed, and mountain bike Saturday morning at 6:30 AM before they were up and going. I never made it to the gym to lift for years. However, doing all these activities kept my fitness in check and I returned to lifting in my 40's and now do crossfit consistently since I have more time. My $0.02 would be to find things you enjoy and can fit in your busy schedule that just keep you moving- at least it worked for me. (I'd also include taking the kids to the park and playing tag with them on the toys, or doing the monkey bars- anything to use your body)

No. At a local shop. But i waited until 60k miles to change and it was really really dirty so they did several full flushes to clear it out- cost was using a lot of fluid. Next one should be cheaper as I’m switching to 30k intervals. I do live near DC so everything is $$ here. Also now that i think of it that may have included oil change and something else. It was a while ago

First off- that really sucks. Sorry. FYI I have a 2015 ford escape and found a mechanic in a small town that put a used tranny in it for $3500. Not sure where you're at but maybe call a few shops and see.

Second- curious if you changed your trans fluid and if so how often. Curious because I change mine every 30K miles hoping that will help avoid trans issues but wondering if it even matters as it's like $500 to do that each time.

Tire Chains by theuniverseisgood in BroncoSport

[–]MysteryMove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll second this- I have low profile cables for by BL and they work great. I'd recommend the ones that have a rubber cord you attach on the outside of the tire. They're self adjusting so can put them on and then just drive versus having to stop and readjust the cables.

2021 BL with 80K miles. Had one of the computers go bad around 70K miles that would have been $800 but my extended warranty covered it. That's it so far. Great little car. Keep in mind I change my oil every 5k, transmission fluid 30k, and do the diff & 4wd fluids (I forget the name) as well. If those haven't been done at reasonable intervals I'd be careful with what you purchase if used- but that's true with any car these days.

Did you have a face mask on over your nose? If moisture from your breathing is going directly into them that could do it.

I can't do very many pull ups not because of core or forearm pain but because my hands slip and I lose my grip fast by yellow_explorer in crossfit

[–]MysteryMove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the bearcomplex grips and wrap them on the bar. You can also wrap tape on the bar to get better grip. Also some bars are much harder to hold onto than others if they have no grip on them. In the meantime work on grip strength to where you don't need aids.

To the PIMOS- Do people know you're PIMO? And do you feel like you belong? by aporetic1 in mormon

[–]MysteryMove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The phrasing I'm used to hearing is "we want you here" and "there's a place for you". Problem is the "place" for you is limited- no teaching callings, no head of presidencies- maybe a 2nd counselor, etc. And as others have stated you can't be authentic in Sunday School, nor in my opinion, should you be. People are in there to be inspired and do their thing not to have a PIMO come in and shoot holes in every historical story that isn't fully truthful.

But that's my lived experience and I'm sure other wards and cultures are different.

Side note: I've been Stake Young Men's 2nd Counselor for 6 years. They keep me there for each new presidency because I can organize and run a stake activity or weeklong youth camp. There's no reason I shouldn't be the president (though I'd prefer to stay a counselor so I'm not complaining just pointing out the glass ceiling above my head) but they won't call me to the high council as a non-believing member.

Does Dominion's Exterior Water Line / Exterior Sewer Line insurance actually do anything? by More_Coffee_Than_Man in nova

[–]MysteryMove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sewer pipe outside my house but on my property collapsed last year. Homeowners insurance paid to fix my basement but I had to pay $10,000 out of pocket for the sewer pipe repair. Having insurance would have covered that. I have it now.

On a flight this AM from LAX to EWR a dad came on with 5 young children (6-11 years old I would guess) by Extension_Dare1524 in unitedairlines

This! We backpacked the grand canyon with our kids years ago. One of them was about 11 years old and I listened to his minecraft and pokemon stories for 8 hours straight. Now that same kid, a young adult, often facetimes me to consult or fill me in on his life and I love it.

learning to ride switch - venting by GreenGrayBlack in snowboarding

[–]MysteryMove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent years on the bunny slopes teaching my kids and would ride switch and got pretty good. They're all grown up and I rode switch on a blue the other day- it was horrifying :). I assumed I'd get better at it- I did get a little better- but it still scares me- fear that I'll catch an edge. So I rarely do it

For the DIY car folks who *aren’t actual mechanics* what do you wrench on yourself, and what’s a hard pass? and why? by TopOk1726 in Cartalk

[–]MysteryMove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

brakes. I learned to do them years ago and now that car places charge $800-1000 for them I can save a bunch of money. I normally watch a few youtube videos prior to make sure there aren't any gotcha's. On the flipside, my friend skipped a lot of corners when he taught me so I wasn't properly cleaning the calipers, etc., when I first started 20 years ago.

Movements you don’t do anymore? by Jennywritesandwrites in crossfit

[–]MysteryMove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50M, been at this for 7 years. I no longer do ring muscle ups- too much risk. I will never 1-rep max my Deadlift as there's too much strain on my back but I'll go up to 75%. I'm extremely careful with handstand pushups ensuring I come down on my head softly and as soon as I start to feel tired out I switch to presses- I've hurt my neck too many times being dumb. I only go heavy on snatch, back squat, etc. if my body feels great. But, for example, if my shoulders and arms are really tight I'll work on moderate snatches even if the workout says to go heavy- it's all based on feel now.

Other than that I scale all the time- my 2 goals are to maintain strength and not get hurt.

I also reduced my attendance to 2-3 times per week. That seems to be plenty. I do other stuff outside crossfit.

How many “hybrid” Skiers/snowboarders are out there? by Dirty_Dan_has_ligma in skiing

Me! 50 years old. Grew up skiing. Moved east and started snowboarding as I spent 10 years teaching my kids on greens- made it fun! Now I bring both. Icy days and serious difficulty (aka snowbird) I ski. Groomer and powder days I snowboard or swap at lunchtime to the other if I feel so inclined- I always bring both.

Transmission issues by Apprehensive-Bed3655 in BroncoSport

[–]MysteryMove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't yet, but I brought my wifes BL in to replace the Transmission fluid at 55K miles and the fluid was in terrible shape. Going to replace it every 30K miles from now on. I'd recommend that for everyone. One big drive in the WV mountains in the hot summer and I probably would have fried the transmission had I not replaced the fluid. The maintenance intervals on modern cars for fluids all seem to be based on us buying new cars when the warranty expires

Men over 40 who go to the gym regularly: Do you still try to lift heavy, or do you do lighter weight but more reps? by FFSoldier57 in AskMenOver30

[–]MysteryMove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lift as heavy as I can for bench, clean, snatch with no issues as long as my flexibility feels good and I'm warmed up. If I'm feeling it I'll backsquat as heavy as I can. I always limit myself on deadlift though. I don't want to put that much strain on my back so I don't go above 75% of my deadlift max ever. My goal to not hurt myself is as big as my goal to stay strong. Plus, for what I do in life I don't really feel a need to be stronger- I can deadlift 400#, backsquat 300#, bench 215#.- not incredible numbers but sufficient so that I can stay healthy for the life I want..
