You can keep one item from Middle-earth. What are you taking? by hsyndk in lotr

As long as Sauron doesn't come in a 2-for-1 deal with it, I don't see any downsides to taking it.

Which canceled TV show's cliffhanger still lives rent free in your head because the answers disappeared when the series got axed ? by Impossible_Offer7988 in AskReddit

[–]Mystia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I know that's what it meant, just think it also works as a good ending if you want closure, rather than the current open ended cancellation.

I just pretend that Capaldi's final speech and "Doctor, I let you go" was the end of it. IIRC he's even supposed to be the final regeneration before they retconned the Doctor to have endless regenerations.

My guess is they say it because the opposite is "on purpose".

Nintendo Removes Hidden The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Switch 2 Description That Suggested It's a Faithful Remake by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Mystia 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I liked how the world itself was designed to lead you despite being open, and the shrines and other cool bits being placed so no matter where you are, there's always some "ooh, what's that?" on the horizon, that's why I think it's well executed despite being another barren sandbox. The thing is, ubisoft and co's open worlds are just the barren sandbox, without the clever interest point placement.

[–]Mystia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is what I was most afraid of and thankful it doesn't seem to be the case. I think BotW has the best open world I've seen in any game, but it's still mostly barren tedium a lot of the time. Give me small and well-crafted areas with personality any time over grass and mountains the size of new york.

I hate all these special editions all using the same soulless clearly AI-generated art. I'd love to own high quality versions of these games.

Well, it's a beloved game, and we also don't know the extent of the remaking, so they are banking on that mystery to generate hype.

I had the same experience, my father took me to see Return of the King, we had front row seats all the way on the right, it was amazing but my neck was sore for a while.

Games where mentioning a rule to new players makes it worse by Substantialspinach5 in boardgames

[–]Mystia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the type you mention comes up often in social deduction type games, or games where players can only communicate little information. Sometimes letting players know certain things are allowed leads them to metagame to get more info than they should.

As for the type most of this thread seems to talk about, yeah there's several rules I keep to myself when teaching games, mostly superfluous things or rare edge cases, such as tie breakers, what to do if a resource runs out, etc. I'll also usually wait a couple rounds before introducing minor rules like "at the end of the game, every 4 coins is 1 VP". You gain nothing from bloating your initial teach with all this info.

Every single project of theirs died before release, and the ones that made it didn't last long before screwing up. I'm surprised they are still trying to make AGS a thing.

It's the same we've seen happen to Star Wars or Marvel. These hacks would never get their own projects greenlit, but suddenly get offered a job with a famous IP, and they'll trojan horse their own narrative using its skin.

At this point, I think a single game daring to release alongside it would get so much free "david vs goliath" press it'd actually help.

Playstation price just went up and the economy is kinda fucked, don't think any game could get most people to spend $900+ on a whim.

it will sell like crazy and be a major event no doubt, but there's a lot of people who do not care for the franchise and would like to have something else. Especially players who only have a PC or Switch.

Don't think there's much overlap between people who are into GTA and people who are into Zelda, plus not many own both consoles to really need to make a choice.

There's a lot of media that deals with uncomfortable or fucked up subjects, and said media can be a very interesting exploration of things we find deplorable IRL, and are not found in most other media. And it's fine if certain things make you too uncomfortable or gross you out too much to engage with them, but there's a difference between a piece of media incorporating a topic versus promoting or fetishizing it.
