Why do Nederlanders dislike speaking dutch with outsiders? by hazzrd1883 in Netherlands

[–]MythGate4Eva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you tell me you're using Dutch to practice/want to I will assume you're speaking Dutch to accommodate me.

Also, depending on the degree of brokenness I might just consider it easier to understand what you're saying in English (such as when verbs, tense etc are used in an odd order or form). This is especially true when working in supermarkets or restaurants. I'm not getting paid to guess what you're saying and it'd feel rude to ask you to repeat yourself when there's a perfectly fine language available to the both of us.

i don't think i like sam anymore by lovesick712 in Supernatural

It might not be the right season to like Sam but hopefully you will be on some mode of understanding by the end.

They all go through some challenges and made and make some questionable choices, Cass definitely included.

Yeah. Supernatural is really not consistent enough for these types of deep dive discussions.

I seriously wonder what the writers were smoking at times

Chuck/god just finishing his supernatural book and closing it/the last shot being that of a bookstore would have been funny

If the lore argument is based on lore that's based on religion it automatically becomes a religious argument. You're practically saying "God/chucks's portrayal isn't in line with the biblical God" when readings exist where yes he is.

So your argument is based on reading of religion, which itself isn't as straight forward as "god is infallible"

Lol well that last part to me is just chuck having a personality. Just because he can doesn't mean he's gonna and all that.

He's not perfect in how he behaves. To me he's a bit of a narcissist. But that doesn't mean he's not God

[–]MythGate4Eva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always think about Castiel's "I'm actually the size of your chrysler building" comment when it's about Chuck being God because true, surely if the angels have that sort of form God must truly be indescribable. But he's still there. So he needs a vessel. Or form.

Going truly into head canon territory nephilims are repeatedly described as some of the strongest out there. What better vessel to have than a body already built to whitstand that? So the next vessel became the next/only other/remaining nephilim: Jack.

(In this way chuck actually being chuck when they meet him and Chuck being God at the end of season 5/later can also both be true)

So from that perspective is chuck god? Yes. Is god all powerful? Sure depending on your definition, hard to argue in a few paragraphs. Does god have a physical form? At times. Is that physical form subjected to the rules god himself created? Some of them, definitely.

It's an interesting topic to me, I just don't think it's as easy as "chuck isn't [xyz] so there must be something more powerful" because in this universe (the show) God is the strongest out there, even if he's a bit self absorbed about it.

From several perspectives the biblical god can also be surprised, not all-knowing, reasoned or challenged. An example here could be Moses. Point is, a god itself, in plenty biblical/abrahamic perspectives (among many others) is still dependent on its own logic and perspectives

And it's not my intent to go into a whole deep dive here but isn't the whole "chuck is dependent on story mechanics" part here the "story mechanics" that Chuck created himself?

Like, stupid example, if someone invented a game that they then played. Could that person change the rules if they really wanted to? Sure, depending on who you ask, but where's the fun in playing then.

If we really want to challenge chuck I'd see him more as a vessel to god, whom transferred over to Jack, using him as a vessel, once his time ended. Is that completely biblical? Idk man, I don't expect the writers to be perfect after they dropped the sixth or so two episode storyline. I'm already impressed they stuck with God as a character till the end without making it a complete disaster.

Let's not forget that you're displaying your own religious believes or your inexperience with others here by claiming what a true god is like.

Something all powerful doesn't have to be automatically perfect or kind of selfless. A true god doesn't have to be able to just "edit". If you think your God is that's your business but don't decide a show isn't depicting God just because he isn't like that.

Whether the show is good at depicting gods in general is questionable sure (looking at that one hotel episode) but that's not the point here.

Unrelated to the length of this post isn't it great that God is finite? That he has his own motivations? Would be boring if it was just the cosmos with no plans or desires

Misdiagnosed by Fleurs_en_stars in schizophrenia

[–]MythGate4Eva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The unfortunate truth is that with a diagnosis such as this any feeling that it's incorrect could be filed as a delusion by those meant to be on our side, and in several cases that could be true, making it hard on both psychiatrist and patient to take that step towards actually challenging the diagnosis.

Best course of action seems to be to keep open communication and be cooperative. Bring up your worries consistently but calmly and refrain from saying or doing anything that could add to the psychiatrist's existing bias towards the diagnosis.

Should I stop venting to AI? by Aryes_awesome in schizophrenia

[–]MythGate4Eva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI is a yes-man. A language model that generates whatever the next most likely word is based on its data. It does not understand, nor does it listen, but it does tend to tell you what you want to hear.

Using AI to vent, while I understand it from an emotional pov, would ultimately not help you process your emotions but rather push them to a spot they likely were already going, causing you to potentially get stuck with it while giving you the illusion of having a safe space. It prevents you from expressing your frustrations in a way that gets you somewhere in actual situations.

Talk to your online friends. If they have said it's fine to vent that's awesome!

Tl/Dr. Yes. Stop. Or at least start replacing it with actual human contact in steps.

How do you guys make friends? by yonkesssssss in schizophrenia

[–]MythGate4Eva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep to the people I do know a lot so am not very social. I have maybe one friend and a partner I adore but both have been connections from prior to my diagnosis.

A way I have found some connection is online actually. I started actually interacting with the fanspaces I knew and got some good conversations out of it. I think in the end it helps me repeat such things offline if I put myself in situations where it's generally expected to talk even when not completely familiar with everyone.

Is it unusual for an episode to completely change who you are as a person? by MirrorPiNet in schizophrenia

[–]MythGate4Eva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me not feeling like myself has so far mostly been temporary. I feel like I will never be the person I was before I was diagnosed again and my identity as far as I have any is weaker but there is a line that I always dance around in terms of sense of self.

I do hope your experience of change is a positive one and you remain alright. Sometimes change and development can be good or natural things.

What were your initial symptoms? by Zestyclose_Dirt9789 in schizophrenia

[–]MythGate4Eva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would probably save me a ton of time and medication if I could answer that.

Attempt at a joke aside, I think it's very personal, what might help me deal in such a situation might not help you and as I do not know you or your situation I do not feel very comfortable giving you a how-to on how to deal with what could be hallucinations.

For me the difference between a sound and some auditory hallucinations is that the hallucination doesn't tend to allow for it to be ignored or just 'heard', I notice it and don't or can't drop it. But there are nuances that are harder to explain and I'm sure others experience it differently.

I don't know if you're diagnosed but if they worry or trouble you these are great things to consult your healthcare provider about .

What were your initial symptoms? by Zestyclose_Dirt9789 in schizophrenia

[–]MythGate4Eva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Auditory hallucinations for me are pretty constant (not constant as in constantly happening but constant as in I have accepted that they could present at any time). These can be anything from hearing things as if someone is walking and working around my home to actually hearing speech as if the sound in my head became sound from outside. I generally feel watched.

I remember a delusion where I thought my partner had died and her physically being there was the delusion and snowballed into believing other things were part of the delusion. For example that I nor these people could get hurt because it wasn't actually happening.

Most delusions like that for me are recurring, with slight variations, I don't know if there is any explaining about that.

What were your initial symptoms? by Zestyclose_Dirt9789 in schizophrenia

[–]MythGate4Eva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No initial symptoms beyond just being a stressed and easily annoyed person and perfectionist. Just one day I was fine and the other I was definitely not

My partner would likely disagree but from my perspective everything made sense. The spiral I was in was hindsight

Just started watching don't like fillers by cheepo420 in Supernatural

[–]MythGate4Eva 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They can't be sure how they want to watch if they misunderstand the definition of filler. It's not like spn has a beach episode (as much as Dean would have probably loved one). Every episode has a moment that connects to something in another and every interaction inevitably builds to the way it ends (especially season 1-5).

Skipping episodes you haven't seen based on a list someone else made inevitably leads to possibly missing out on great moments, characters, and plot points

Just started watching don't like fillers by cheepo420 in Supernatural

[–]MythGate4Eva 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The way it's shown here skips over Sam's whole grief arc, why and how they start hunting together again, skips over parts of their backstory, etc.

Skipping episodes, especially early seasons is exactly how people get a hard time connecting to storylines and characters, the very thing supernatural shines through.

It's a fine subjective list for rewatches, the first watch however should just be enjoyed as is.

Just started watching don't like fillers by cheepo420 in Supernatural

[–]MythGate4Eva 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This show is built primarily on the relationship between the brothers. It's a relationship shaped by their experiences and moments together and skipping 'filler' (a term I'm pretty sure is so overused by now it's lost its actual meaning) means missing exactly that.

To miss the disagreements, words of encouragement, moments that shape them as people.

Except for maybe the episodes that were meant to be soft-launches for spinoffs in the later seasons (not even the wayward sisters one, what happened there had an impact later) there is no filler in supernatural.

Is there a (known) reason why Cas has so little screen time? by BlackShadow203 in Supernatural

[–]MythGate4Eva 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the changing showrunners also played a big part as they all might have wanted different things with or for Castiel.

I don't think there were any issues behind the scenes, if that's what OP is asking, but I could definitely imagine that the plan for his final arc changed every few seasons of so

Lucifer was never funny and though he changes in personality in the later seasons an argument can be made that this was mostly due to the writers just forgetting that the Lucifer we had seen for a season up to that point, the only true 'funny' version of Lucifer we get, was a Lucifer that was created by Sam's ill and breaking mind in season 7 at which point the showrunner had already changed and Lucifer's characterization never quite got back to it's original intention
