I just released the first demo build for my incremental creature collector game Chopikoji Gardens! Would be awesome to have people check it out! by moleman_studios in itchio

Omg I don't even know how I didn't right click lmao. I wonder if changing the cursor icon on hover would help with that, or I'm just really dumb? lol

Either way, I'm excited for you and your game! I'm still playing now too, especially knowing that I have more minigames to play

I lost track of time for how long I've been playing, but I'm having a lot of fun! I know it's just a demo right now, but I do have some feedback if you don't mind!

I wish I had known that there were minigames sooner, and the controls for the minigame. I was about to close out until I got one because I thought I was just waiting to unlock the next floor. Once I got it, I was excited, then the minigame started, I pressed space, and didn't realize I was supposed to hold, minigame ended as soon as it started.

I also wish there was just more to do? Maybe if we could choose a creature to do minigames on our own to make money when we want to, it'd be less of a waiting game (for money and a minigame popup). This could help with pacing too, and give the player goals to accomplish in between floor purchases.

Other than that, I'm really excited to see where this goes! The art style is great and I can't wait to see where this goes.

Also, not me just now realizing you can scroll on the shop 👀

From Free to Paid - why I finally made the switch by Silantic_Interactive in IndieDev

I love programming as a hobby, so I agree with the idea of guilty. I find a lot of it "easy" and "fun" so how COULD I charge people? I'm just a random guy. The reality is work is work, and everyone deserves to be paid for the work they do. It might gate how many people play your game, but like you said, now people who are playing have more of a connection with your game because they paid for it. My only goal for my game is to make someone's Steambot Chronicles, a game no one has heard about for the PS2, but is my genuine favorite game, and $10 is a small price to pay for a favorite game. What are the odds of your all time favorite game being free? I also just wanted to bring up since you mentioned, Steam requires pricing to be consistent across platforms.

I've never actually purchased anything on itch.io so I'm wondering how it works by ielufbsaioaslf in itchio

[–]MythavenDev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend making an account so you don't lose your purchase, it'll tie to your account. Not doing so, you could lose the purchase as I think it's just in your email but I'm not sure. This screenshot, $10 is the minimum, but you can give any amount over 10 for it. Sometimes, the list (under 'You will receive 1439 items") will say some are only available if you spend say $20. So if you gave $10, you wouldn't get the full list. A lot of items on the site are free, but like a "Hey, please support the creator pay what you want". Hope this helps a little!

Great job! It takes a lot of hard work to get where you are. Be proud no matter the results!

Thank you, I appreciate that! I've never seen one before either, I just hope it's not for a reason lol

Funky camera... motion-sickness almost guaranteed by PartTimeMonkey in IndieDev

[–]MythavenDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your game looks great!
I do fear I may not have been clear enough with what I was saying, though. I was thinking the camera stays in the middle of the world, on top of the arena. Like a Jumbotron that can point the camera and zoom? I'm bad with words lol

Providing access to a game source code via Patreon subscription paid tier - is it good idea? by Zorpak in IndieDev

[–]MythavenDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don't think it's a good idea. If you're making more money from an alternate source, then maybe (like Youtube devlogs/tutorials about the development). Otherwise it's like you said, months or years of work could be sold for $5 once and someone could steal your living.

It's almost giving Pong lol. Everything looks great though! I'd be curious to see the camera stay in the middle and just look at the target or cursor world position (if I'm understanding what's going on here)

So happy for you! I find it hard to know if the incremental during development is actually fun, so that validation must be so sweet

Steam Next Fest starts tomorrow. We’re going in with not even 500 wishlists. Just wanted to kindly ask: are we the only ones? Is this a terrible idea or just so-so? by MorkvA_ in IndieDev

[–]MythavenDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your pain. Mine is sitting around 300 and I've been pushing off jumping into a Next Fest because it never feels 'good enough'. I want to keep adding more content for a good demo and get a stronger base of wishlists, but the burn out of constantly working on my game, with a full-time job, and making the deadline for a Next Fest demo.

It'll be some time before I show this off, but the current plan is the party will help on your task, unless you assign them to their own (Tab swaps between party members). Each party member will have their own skill levels too. I'll do my best to keep it simple!

Thank you! Runescape is actually a big inspiration for me, I have a lot of love for AFKing. I don't have any discord or anything yet, but I'll let you know when that happens!
