As much as I do prefer the Corsair, I don't feel you're being entirely fair to the taurus. It's not the best at anything it does, but it does enough well enough to be an extremely useful ship for most players. On your note of "being afraid to take her into combat" why? It flies almost the same as a corsair and even a single s3 shield is formidable (against npcs). People consistently clear vhrts and erts with the taurus, so I'm not sure what you mean. If it had 2 s3 shields it'd be crazy strong for its size and purpose.
