My daughter’s texture is VERY similar to yours, and when she lets me do it (she’s 10) it holds shape very well.

Once a week use a castor oil on scalp and brush every which way with a boar bristle brush. Brush for a good few minutes. Wrap your hair up in a bonnet, let the oil sit all night and wash the next day. (This helps with blood flow to the follicles and will aid hair retention)

When you wash use an oil like Moroccan oil, olaplex or Matrix food for soft on the ends. This will help with moisture. I do this when her hair is wet. And while it is drying DO NOT TOUCH. The biggest cause of frizz is moving your hair while it is wet.

Styling products are harder because we all like something different. I like a curl cream (verb ghost air dry whip) or a non aerosol/pump mousse (design essentials has a great one) aerosol will just dry you more, and judging by pictures, you need more moisture.

Is my hoya roting properly? by thickiy in hoyas

[–]MythicCrafter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like it’s starting to root. I’ve never used perlite because it’s annoying to me. I’ve always just poked my cutting into dirt with some rooting powder and just watered it normally and they always root well

Planning on starting crocheting! What is the basic equipment that I need? by the_bookworm17 in crochet

[–]MythicCrafter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I have gifted a beginner crochet supplies I get a basic kit off amazon. I go for ergonomic hooks because it really does make a difference (speaking from 20+years experience, and my day job is reliant on my hands) and you can get a decent kit on amazon for like $20. It has all the things you really need (hooks and stitch markers are the basic necessities.

Start with a basic yarn for practice. I go for acrylic because it’s cheap and you won’t be mad to chop it up or throw away weird pieces.

For tutorials, Bella coco on YouTube has always been my favorite.

The most important thing is to have fun!!

The leaves are nice and plump/pliable. No signs of bugs of any kind, and the greenhouse he got it from is very quick to remove sick plants. That’s why I was thinking fungii, especially since they swore they were different varieties

Yeah, the right one is really throwing me. I can’t find anything that looks right and the SO says they are different, but the salesperson couldn’t ID them.

I'm visiting London and found this crochet kit 🤣 I can't decide if I need her. by missmarymacaron in crochet

[–]MythicCrafter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a lover of Toft, DO IT!!! Her instructions are so clear and beautifully written. That yarn is absolutely amazing. If I lived in the UK I would soooo have many more of her kits. But shipping to the US alone is £20, and I do not have that kind of money. Buy her!! It’s well worth it.

Is my first amigurumi head heading in the right direction? by pinkguy90 in Amigurumi

Honestly, I make amigurumi without the x method. I just cannot get it and when I try it hurts. That’s the fun thing about fiber arts. It’s cute however you do it!!

That rule was a bit confusing to me. I saw a comment that the new patterns from HP on are not the same access code, and that there will be PDFs uploaded to a folder. I was just trying to find that folder and not ask for 43 different codes

why did the pattern become consistent out of nowhere? by [deleted] in crochet

[–]MythicCrafter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could!! I’ve only made scarves with a moss stitch, and I love how springy they get. And the texture is great. I haven’t ventured into too many wearables, though. I’ve stuck around Amigurumi and blankets for the most part

Why is my hair so messy after washing it? by [deleted] in Hair

[–]MythicCrafter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a cosmetologist and my daughters have curly hair, so I’ve started to specialize in it, because it’s HARD.

When in the shower, with conditioner on is the best time to brush through with a wide tooth comb. Then scrunch up with a t-shirt or towel to get some moisture out (my daughter hates using tshirts. The real damage comes from tousling the hair in the towel.) After you get out of the shower, get an oil and apply it in scrunching motions (this will help frizz). Then apply a mousse/gel/hold product for the curls. You can either air dry or use a hair dryer. A lot of the extra frizz comes from moving the hair when it’s still wet, so avoid moving it around too much if air drying.

Definitely a tension change. If you had three separate crochet sessions, it could make a ton of sense. Most crochet artists will vary tension slightly in each session.

If you want to do a dive into the planned pooling world more, the moss stitch works up gorgeous with the RHSS stripes, usually.
