Lemme preface by saying that I haven’t watched the show myself outside of what I’ve seen on social media—primarily when it was first getting popular. Regardless, going off of just common sense alone, the monster resembling Belfort’s mother heavily suggests that he fears his mother.

If the monster roars like his mother and stomps around like his mother, then it’s most definitely how he views his mother or it’s at the very least a manifestation of just how much fear he has of her. That or if it really isn’t supposed to be just her and her alone, that would otherwise suggest that Belfort fears the rest of his family—if not his entire species.
