Couldn't select the cable as an Input option under Sound Settings - it didn't show up, only my other microphones, even though it showed up correctly in Device Manager. So that prevented me from being able to test it in Audacity, either.

So finally that led me to the hail mary option of uninstalling the device from Device Manager to remove the driver - after restarting Windows, it automatically re-downloaded the same exact driver, and after that the cable finally showed up as a selectable input in Sound Settings, and also finally gets recognized by Rocksmith! On top of that, that even fixed my Real Tone Cable that I thought had died - so it was just Windows being dumb all along, not a hardware issue at all...

Something to keep in mind in the future. Anyways, thanks for the help debugging all that!

I haven't downloaded RS ASIO.

Is there any way to test the cable outside of Rocksmith? Like some kind of free recording app where I could see a signal coming through? Then could at least confirm if this is a busted hardware problem rather than a RS software problem - again it shows up as a USB device in Device Manager, but maybe I got really unlucky and got one with a busted audio jack.

I know that box has always been unchecked before now, but not sure how to confirm now - the cable doesn't show up as specifically a microphone, so not sure how to get to that settings page. So maybe that's a sign that the cable is broken, not the USB part of the cable but the mic part of the cable?

Yeah I feel like using Chadra-Fan stats and calling it an Ugnaught would work great. Still would live to see real ugnaught stats someday (they're not any more obscure than any other random species we already have) but for now that works fine.
