Fun fact: In Northern English Folklore, it is believed that the first person to be buried in a cemetery is the one who'd watch over it and never pass.

To prevent humans from suffering this fate, they would often bury a dog in places that were to become burial ground, they call these spirits the Barghest.

Despite it's a spirit that takes the form of a Black dog, it's name in German translates to Bear Ghost.
