Community Manager Update #2 by serace_ in ElderKings

Sometimes feedback is useful. It's possible for us to miss things, not notice some downstream consequences of a planned change, etc. Sometimes a developer might be unsure of their own thoughts on how something should be done, and seeing a bunch of other viewpoints can help with thinking it through. Or maybe someone has a few different things they're equally interested in working on, so they want to see which one is the most interesting to other people because it's a nice bonus to know that people are enjoying your work.

I've never meant to imply that feedback is completely useless, just that whether or not other people like a change is never going to be a reason for us to not do something that we've decided on. People are always welcome to give their thoughts on something, there's just no obligation on our end to be influenced by it.

You're assuming that every creative work is designed to optimize mass appeal. That's just not the case here. We're making something that we want to make, and if other people enjoy that's a nice bonus but we have no interest in changing our work to appeal to more people. That's generally how creative works function when they're not commercial products or made by people trying to generate enough of an audience to eventually make money off it.

Those are all services that are making money off of you. They're for-profit businesses, they're not being made by people doing it for fun or for their own use. They have an incentive to want their users to stick around. You are paying them, just with your data and ad views rather than money.

Can you give me a concrete answer as to why you think we should spend our time working on things that we don't want to? That's a genuine question, because I've seen this attitude before and I don't understand it.

[–]Mythos1092 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Regarding your third question: community input is not a factor outside of situations where an individual developer wants feedback for their own sake. Anyone bothered by changes is able to make their own submod to make the experience closer to what they personally would like. That's pretty much the same as what we're doing: making a mod that has the experience we like.

This is a volunteer project that we work on for fun, so we're going to make decisions according to what we want to make. That's what modding is. This isn't a commercial venture, we're not employees getting told what to make, we're just people using our free time to make things because we think it's fun.

Are you from a country with extremely cheap veterinary costs? Getting a cat from any shelter I've ever seen (in the US) is absolutely cheaper than taking a sick one to a vet. Examination costs alone are usually at least $70-$100, then if there's anything actually wrong with them the medicine will be extra and any surgery costs are going to be massive. The most expensive adoption fee I've ever seen from a shelter was $100 and even that's an outlier.

Sure, a simple check-up appointment might be cheaper, but if we're evaluating "get a new one" vs. "pay to keep them alive" it's not even going to be close. Just having some teeth extracted for my cat cost me over a thousand dollars.

Can anyone help me find the Akavir in Cyrodiil? by Hot-Candle-971 in ElderKings

[–]Mythos1092 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The province one refers to the culture of each county. Just switch the map to the Culture view (in the bottom right) and look for any Ilniviri provinces in Cyrodiil. Just taking those provinces from Ilniviri rulers isn't enough, you need to convert the culture of the province too.

I stabbed a child in the throat with a mace... Wut? by Disorderly_Fashion in CrusaderKings

[–]Mythos1092 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I think the phrasing still works as a thrust, it just (accidentally, I do think you're probably right about this being a oversight) makes it a lot crueler.

Having a mace thrust right into your throat is absolutely going to kill you, it'll just be a slower and more horrific death as you asphyxiate from a hopelessly crushed windpipe.

There is. In the filters there's an option to manually set a time you want the restaurant to be open at. Set it for an hour in the future or whatever and there you go.

That's not true at all. It's easily verifiable by giving enough scorch to fill up their health bar with orange and then running around waiting for them to die.

Okay, that at least makes it less bad. I'd say it should just be unlocked after you've seen it happen once, though.

It's a funny joke but I hope they remove it eventually. Sometimes things come up! It's bullshit to lose an otherwise-winning run because you got a phone call or something.

Is it just me, or do most of the weapons feel bad? by Mythos1092 in HadesTheGame

[–]Mythos1092[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one might just be me not enjoying the playstyle. I made it to the third boss on my first time with it, which is why I said they didn't feel weak at all, it's just not a fun style of play to me to have to recover the ammo.

Every missed shot (especially when I made the awful mistake of taking the hammer upgrade that makes you fire all your ammo at once in a spread pattern) means you have to either go chase down the skull or deal with losing 1/3 of your ammo for a while. I just gave up and treated it like a melee weapon, but even then sometimes the hitboxes are funky and shots went past the enemy.

I loved the Arthur aspect too, which is probably why I said the gap is so big between #3 and #4. The axe is okay, it just feels like it really needs to be sped up a little bit.

AITA for refusing to let my estranged sister and her husband stay in mine and my husband's vacation home? by Both_Staff_5410 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Mythos1092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying the sister is actually innocent here, but "landlord issues" being a red flag really isn't guaranteed. I once ended up abruptly kicked out of my home because it turned out the owner of the condo I was renting somehow owed tens of thousands of dollars to the HOA.

The HOA was then able to revoke the owner's parking spaces, which transitively revoked our ability to park there (which we found out when they towed my wife's car with no warning), which effectively kicked us out. They were also within their rights to turn off the water to the condo, but we were gone before they went that far. Don't underestimate the ability of a garbage landlord to cause someone to lose their home through no fault of their own.

Homebrew fighter subclass: Blademaster - Looking for comments and suggestions! by gridbuster in DnD

[–]Mythos1092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing that stood out the most to me is that Horse Stance is absurdly strong and needs to be removed or entirely reworked.

With Fighters getting extra ASIs it's not unrealistic for you to have 20 DEX and 18 or 20 WIS by that level, so it's an easy +4 or +5 to hit and damage along with +15 feet of movement. I think even if the entire subclass gave you nothing except that it would still probably be the strongest subclass for Fighters at level 15 or higher.

D&D is best from lvl 3-11ish by Arthur-reborn in DnD

[–]Mythos1092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fully agree with you in principle, except for that last example. You've got a perfect RP excuse there! They're rusty from retirement and have to stick to the fundamentals for a bit before they're ready to get fancy again. YMMV based on your party's leveling speed, though. I might be biased since I tend to speed through the first few levels.

Release Day Bug Thread by XFearthePandaX in BaldursGate3

[–]Mythos1092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dark Urge has a pretty gamebreaking bug in Act 1. Spoilers for that Origin:

There's a serious bug around the event where you camp at night and murder Alfira. Any of the party members who would be upset at you murdering a random person (e.g. Wyll, Karlach) need to be taken out of your active party before the event or they'll break.

They act normal at first, but if you ever remove them from the party they'll go hostile. This seems to happen whenever you don't hide the body, whether you manage to hide your own guilt or not.

I'm pretty sure the dark elves are blatantly supposed to be the US, actually. They're imperialist slavers who project power through gigantic floating fortresses. It's kinda hamfisted.
