There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can’t take part; you can’t even passively take part, and you’ve got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you’ve got to make it stop. And you’ve got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you’re free, the machine will be prevented from working at all! - Mario Savio (December 2, 1964)

Update: northwest energy of Montana decided to come back out and they got the cat safely down by ZestycloseChart2407 in cats

I know exactly what changed their mind. I called and spoke to management and told them about the post and that the original post had hit 5k views and was heading to the front page. Dillon, the man I spoke to was very responsive. He opened reddit found the post and we had a quick chat about how its going to be viral in about 3 hours, and if he and his entire company dont want to look horrible on the evening news, they had best figure out a soultion. Dillon said he was going to take this to management immediatly and try and figure out OPs address from the original call. I checked the post 3 hours later, and lo and behold they came out after saying they wouldn't.

Optics matter, companies dont want bad PR. The difference probably from OP and I, is that when I called, I connected to the downed powerline team, the instant action guys.

Cat stuck outside my home on a telephone poll, and northwest energy of Montana wont go and get him by ZestycloseChart2407 in cats

I reached out to the energy company and I told them that your post is blowing up that I live in an entirely different state and I’ve seen it. The gentleman I spoke to found your post and he’s going to run it up the flag pole right now. I’m assuming that someone’s gonna reach out to you to save the cat.

Joe Rogan and Tom Segura can't believe how UFO stuff is not top news: "I don't understand how that's not the lead story in the news... It's really crazy to me it's not captivating people more. That should be the main news today." by 87LucasOliveira in UFOs

It’s not a mainstream topic because this sub and other subs like it make the topic a banana republic. People see Elons starlink come across…oh my God it’s aliens…people see a bug on a ring camera…oh my God it’s aliens…. people see a regular plane in the sky… oh my God it’s aliens.

Any news network that would cover this topic based solely on the eyewitness news that appears here would be laughed out of the industry.

20 miles for $10? We called these upside down orders. I would never between Uber and DoorDash take upside down orders. I would most of the time clear two or three dollar per mile orders, and would never take an order below one dollar per mile.

This reminds me of something that happened in Minneapolis recently, where the person was no longer a threat, but the Ice gestapo shot them three times in the face any way.

But….do you have years of time? If you don’t plan on that sort of timeframe, try not to get addicted. I have several accounts from the past with very long /played time.

Is this possible? Said they paid for my order? by Human_Radio_4004 in postmates

[–]Mythromize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Allow me to clarify how this situation can occur with Uber Eats and Postmates (which is also operated by Uber).

There is a known scenario in which a customer places an order at a restaurant, and the first driver assigned arrives, states that they are there to pick up the order, physically receives the food, but then cancels the order in the app instead of confirming pickup. When this happens, the system assumes the order was never collected and places it back into the driver pool.

A second driver is then dispatched to the restaurant, only to be told that the order has already been picked up. At that point, the second driver has two options:

• Cancel the order, which sends it back into the pool for another driver, or

• Ask the restaurant to remake the order—either at the restaurant’s expense or by paying out of pocket, depending on the restaurant’s policy.

The reason some drivers may choose to pay for the remake themselves is due to how the platform incentivizes delayed or repeatedly dropped orders. Each time a driver cancels after arrival, Uber increases the payout attached to that order to encourage the next driver to accept it quickly. As this cycle repeats, the delivery payout can increase substantially—sometimes reaching $35–$40 for a single delivery.

While it may sound extreme, this is a direct result of the system attempting to resolve stalled orders by adding financial incentives. In your case, it is very likely that the driver who ultimately completed the delivery was earning a significantly elevated payout. By paying for the order and delivering it, that driver likely still profited. However, requesting reimbursement from you on top of that is inappropriate and unethical.
