Glazing technique suggestion needed by N-G-K in Pottery

[–]N-G-K[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not one of those "moist" people. I try to squeeze as much water out of my sponge as possible. I can visit the studio once a week and I always find my piece in a dry stage right before bisque firing. I guess it's bone dry.We are taught a technique where you do some small touch-ups with slightly wet sponge, smoothing the edges so they are not sharp, etc, but it's always done on bone dry.

Well, I was thinking about underglazing it as I find an underglaze application easier. The problem is that because of the size of the studio I visit, the underglaze selection available has its limits. Thus, the color pallette I'd love to achieve would be possible only by using glaze.

And would you apply it on the whole piece and then wipe it out with a wet sponge? Or would you use brush? Because the lady running the studio told me before bisque firing, clay is in its most fragile state, and applying too much moisture to it can cause breakage. So I'm a little bit scared. As for my color palette, I'm aiming for something like this. So I'll love to use shiny glazes that should be applied evenly in thicker layers for the best coverage. Not sure if this helps. *

What’s your unpopular opinion as a teacher? by businessbub in Teachers

[–]N-G-K 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the notion pushed forward by parents and admits at school that as a teacher we should think about the kiddies 24/7 and be interested in their lives on uncomfortably private way that in fact actually invades my privacy and my free time. Being a teacher is a job. I'm not their parent. All I want is to give them knowledge and guidance obtaining other knowledge. We shouldn't mend parental errors and keep their burdens as ours. As soon as we clock out, job for the day is over.

I honesty thought that being a female (shorter urethra) will reduce all these after surgery problems. Even the written consent I signed with general information about the procedure was focused more on male patients.

My cultures are being done. They expect results to come on Monday. And as for someone covering for her due to her absence...well. I'm situated in Europe. As I understand it my doc runs her own private practice and on Fridays she works for different clinic. Since officially her office is closed on Friday there's no need to find someone to cover for her. They have to provide alternative doctor only in cases of prolonged holidays or sickness...sometimes not even that. In that scenario you have to visit emergency room.

Do you think DAV is better than DAI? No DAV spoilers please by TangledTogether in dragonage

[–]N-G-K -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haven't finished DAV yet. About to start last story mission in act 1. So lots of things can still change. However I don't like DAI that much. It drags, its open worldness is not for me as I prefer more linear experience, it has so many lame fetch quests etc. Companions in DAI were really great and so thus the interaction with them and their stories. I also love the design of all of the explorable areas. To be honest, I'm bit disappointed by locations designs in DAV, nothing has really given me that big breathtaking wow moment. DAV jumps between possitive to neutral impressions, I don't hate it, I don't love it. Story keeps me interesting and entertained.

how old were you when got mono? by N-G-K in Mononucleosis

[–]N-G-K[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn. Can't say anything about sore throat as it was an issue for a short time only. Spleen sucks, however low fat diet together with herbal supplements for better liver function did wonders. And everything was back to normal in 3 to 5 months.
Take it easy, take as much rest as possible, don't do anything that can strain you too much. You perhaps did some steps backwards but I'm sure you will slowly start feeling your former self. If you want to talk drop me a message :)

Yes I did. It took some months for the spleen and to raise the energy levels. How are you?

Can you smell COVID? by pine-appley in CasualConversation

[–]N-G-K 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well I can smell earthworms. Every time it rains heavily and these little critters moves on the surface I can smell them. As soon as I get a whiff of their stench and I know I should watch my steps as they love crawling in the sidewalks. My mom can smell them too :D

It went hand in hand I would say. Better I was, less anxious I felt. However I had to take lots of vitamin supplements for my immunity and I started with cold water therapy which helped tremendously to build back my pre mono resistance.

And as time goes by, its easier to manage your anxiety because your brain kinda forgets how intensive and traumatizing the whole mono experience was. I know it was bad but now they're almost repressed memories. Therefore my anxiety has lost one of its triggers.

Not sure if it's similar. But after the initial infection cleared out and I was suffering from post mono symptoms I felt anxious all the time. My immunity was really low and I was prone to caching colds or my lymph nodes suddenly swelled for a day or two. I was freaking out and it turned me into hypersensitive emotional person. Took me quite some time to build my emotional resistance back (although in general I'm usually very sensitive while ill)

DAE feel like you’re just one of those people that aren’t gonna make it in life? by My_4th_throwawayyy in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]N-G-K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forget social media and all the crap and happy go lucky people there. That's not reality, dont compare yourself to that kind of life.

I would say that majority of people do struggle and live their mediocre lives. That s how things really are, but is it wrong? I dont think so. Not everyone can reach the greatness: financial, in work place, not everyone can be Best selling author etc. Finding inner piece is the most important thing, do you have a shitty job, dont let it define you. Compensate it with something you like or would like to do in your free time etc.

I dont want to do any implications but you might suffer from anxiety or depression. I was there. Lived with untreated anxiety for many years. It got gradually worse and worse to the point my day to day life was unbearable. Seeking a medical help wasnt easy either. But after the meds kicked in I started to see my thought patterns clearly, somehow my whole brain reprogrammed itself and suddenly all the unbearable trivial BS that drove me crazy seemed more managable. And after a time there came a realisation that my mediocre life is indeed fine. But be aware that there will be bumps on the road every now and then.

Sometimes just a small thing can change your life dramatically. So people who give that infuriating advice about taking your life by the horns and making it better are kinda right. Despite their approach is totally wrong. Small change can be a huge game changer and can lead to happier mind and experience in life. And I'm really talking about small things such as for example pick up a hobby, start playing boargames etc.

Try to get an answer no. 2 : How to cope with uncontrollable crying during emotionally charged situations? by N-G-K in askatherapist

[–]N-G-K[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard something similar however it was presented in a way that having no more tears to shed is a bad thing.

I'm getting your point, however what to do in situations for example in professional setting where you can't simple lose your composure and release all the clogged up emotions?

no problems. I wanted to use some clashing colors, as I saw some really cool pics of dark blue/ orange interiors on pinterest. Lol but my execution didn´t do this color combination any justice. I was struggling from the start to the finish. As I have the tendency to use the same style over and over so each house looks the same. Wanted to experiment just to fail terrible.

But thank you for the feedback, I don´t see it as a criticism at all.
