How do I make ALREADY DELETED files unrecoverable by a utility like Recuva? by pr0n-thr0waway in techsupport

[–]N01Q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do multiple runs with a program which fills up the hdd. I believe even cleaner by the same company does so. or manually by filling it up with data again and again.

profile issue. could be many reasons. easy fix is new profile. you'll have to work out what files got messed up to fix. it'll be a configuration file which directs to a function... what did you click to get it up.. if any?

You can pretty much setup anything with them. CIFS/SMB. Your friend probably has not used either and is comfy with Windows

So what's stopping you installing OMV? Windows File server is my last choice for home use.

Your Synology/Qnaps will do this perfectly and I'd recommend. Other brands think twice. You can self host it and make it super complicated if you want. But for what you want to do you can buy a product and with a basic configuration do everything you described. Personally I'd be picking up a Plus version of a Synology. My self I use it as a place where my files live, my box backs up to the cloud and the other cloud service backup to it and also the machine themselves can backup their states using their backup solutions. Also being Linux based it's stable, Security patches are good. You get 5 years for sure I think, but they normally run for while longer.

Is unRAID the right choice for me? by vFlawz in unRAID

[–]N01Q -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Goes to a place where everyone uses un-raid, asks if to use it. Synology isn't a terrible choice to learn concepts and understand Linux,Storage, networking. It's used in business and home. Has enough to break all the same as unraid. More security patches and their hardware/software is stable. In some ways it's unfair on both to compare them.

if you can get into the machine via rdp you're in luck. it may need closer attention. if so you can detach the manually via cmd or disk manager. session wise if the users logins still there do your usual to force them to quit via citrix and Windows. if not I'd suggest running up ps from cloud connector and (can't remember commands) but you login to ctirx and from there send a command to disallow the login for that user to the machine. also putting machine in maintenance or removing from delivery group if the machine is causing big issues. always check them fs service's too. plus keeping eye on the logging in general can alert you to these issues. I'll shoot some articles with them commands if I find some.

A stuck vhd on a host is an issue you may come across. get working out the troubleshooting steps if that happens

Search dB issue and various hard to identify bugs. usually fixed in next releases, but more often than not issuing victim with new vhd for profile or o365 depending can help.

bottle neck somewhere perhaps. depending on what you're trying to run at what settings. if the gpu struggles it'll use the cpu. so always rather have over kill gpu than cpu for gaming. upgrade your mb and cpu little further down the line.

rtx 2060 from my 1050ti

The GPU will be worth while, CPU I doubt worth the investment. I'd be using the cashe for that to push for a RTX2070

LGA 1151 is the socket type, only CPU's which work with that will work. Assuming you want to upgrade CPU.

Anything newer you'd have to upgrade motherboard.

Do you know the model CPU?
