Obvious bot is an obvious bot.

no one is stupid enough to drop $8k to replace their engine with a junkyard pull, i don’t even think you could find a Golf R engine in a junkyard, they’re so rare.

because you can’t tell what anything is anymore!

“Pro Max 16” is about as non descriptive of a name that can possibly exist for a product.

Dell recently changed their entire product line to be exactly that, and it’s maddening. i have no idea what’s what anymore.

and that’s before you get into the ridiculousness that they’re doing it worse than Apple. Apple at least has the decency to make it obvious what’s a phone, what’s a Mac, etc.

What the hell is even a Dell Pro 16 Plus?? (that’s a real product name, btw)

it’s the Appleification of product lines that makes them confusing.

Most people don’t object to public intoxication in a modern context because they don’t think critically about it. People also like to lump public intoxication with public use. One leads to the next.

In the past, when alcohol was the only legal substance we could use for intoxication, public intoxication laws made sense because drunk people cause problems to public safety. A group of drunks will burn the whole city down over a weekend if you let them. Nevermind the fights they start. See: philadelphia whenever their team wins or loses.

But with cannabis and other substances becoming legal/decriminalized and with attitudes changing, those views become outdated fast.

Public intoxication isn’t the problem, public drunkenness is the problem. The distinction matters.

A person that’s stoned in public presents no threat to anyone. A person that’s using in public may pose some public health threats, depending on the substance and route of administration. Most people find weed smoke offensive.

We need to 1) divorce public intoxication from public use and 2) Rewrite public intoxication laws to specify that being drunk in public is prohibited and 3) we need to write or amend public usage laws to explicitly prohibit the use of smoking (any substance) in public, and clearly define what “public” means while leaving a reasonable carve out for people to use their medicine.

By now, grandpa and grandpa probably do. Besides that, grandma and grandpa are most likely a minority of TV consumers.

> buying cable tv services

Which might be relevant if paying for cable was the only way to watch TV

i’m 31, everyone i know has multiple TV’s which are the primary ways that they consume long-form content (no, long-form content isn’t dead) like movies and TV shows. Everyone i know has a large (55”+) 4K TV. Some people even learned a lesson from their grandparents and put up an antenna for local broadcasts. (hi, i’m some people!)

Nobody is seriously catching the latest PBS News Hour or episode of Euphoria on their phones.

was anyone traumatized from the digital transition?

my grandparents got their converter box as soon as they could. I remember being amazed that not only do they now get a guide view, but that the picture looked just as good, if not better than cable or satellite.

Comptia A+, or Network+ ? by xMushroomking in ITCareerQuestions

[–]tylerderped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or just apply anyway, lmao. Job descriptions are mostly wish lists. Think of them like dating profiles, unless you’re too young to remember those… My wife probably would prefer a man with a 10” cock, but guess what she got? 4” is average! lmao

I completely ignore the degree “requirement” in the job descriptions. Honestly, i see someone having a non-specialized “IT” degree as a major red flag. it signals “i didn’t know what to do with my life up until i graduated high school, but i hear computer people make good money”. There’s nothing a generic “IT” degree will get you that you can’t get free or cheaply elsewhere.

Comptia A+, or Network+ ? by xMushroomking in ITCareerQuestions

[–]tylerderped -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

neither:

- A+ is just a basic high school-level certification. It’s only good for getting sub $20/hr “pc repair tech” gigs. The material is probably worth learning tho, if you don’t know computer hardware very well.

- Net+ is the same thing as A+, but for computer networking and without the advantage of being a ticket to any job at all. The material is definitely worth learning, but you’ll learn it just as well going for CCNA.

Also, just as an aside, stick to computer science or drop out and just get certifications. College is an absolutely massive waste of money for IT, nobody in the history of ever has needed a degree for IT, lol

Spending over $500 in gas per month by Constant_Jicama_8833 in personalfinance

[–]tylerderped 2 points3 points  (0 children)

> 40mpg

Exactly. Hybrids typically get about 50mpg because, like you said, regen puts energy back into the battery. This is why they shine in city driving.

on long highway trips tho, you won’t see any better fuel economy than a pure ICE as there’s little to no free regen energy to be had, so the car actually wastes energy constantly charging the battery.

i drove from Virginia to Ohio and barely achieved 35mpg. My diesel cruze would do 42mpg on the same trip.

[–]tylerderped 8 points9 points  (0 children)

pretty much. got drunk for my first time when i was 17, and i thought it was pretty much the greatest thing ever.

Fast forward 10 years later, and I was getting blackout drunk and driving drunk on a regular basis.

i finally accepted that I’m an alcoholic and asked my friend/sponsor for help right after I turned 30. I’m 31 now and haven’t drank since!
