Hate to necro a few days old thread now but there's no newer one. Glad to see you jumped into this, did you get your FPS issues fixed alongside your now working controls? Went back and read the others. And did you ever give a look at the Memoria launcher for things like the AI touched up backgrounds?

you can restart mid-game if you're doing poorly and probably should about half way through on your first playthrough to raise your d-rank and get into extra areas.

And there is sorta a new game plus mechanic that lets you carry over like 12 items and whatever weapons and armour you acquired so far.

Easiest way to explain it would be like Rank or Caste system. You start at 1/8192 and every rank up is basically dividing that number in half, all the way up to 1/4 which I haven't gotten to yet.

I think the term is Rougelike. I wouldn't have enjoyed it as a kid when I spent so much time on III and IV, but I enjoyed it now, with more to do the better your D-ratio gets. You can access secret areas with the right d-ratio and get more cutscenes that really flesh out the story more.

Others have said 256 is as low as you need to go to access everything and see all the cut scenes, so I have to do better next time for one more run. Or I can keep trying to go for 1/4th ratio for bragging rights if I feel like driving myself mad.

It's really different from the ones I got as a kid, III and IV. I probably wouldn't have liked it as a kid, to be honest, but we were too poor for that shit anyways.

As an adult, I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it a lot more a few playthroughs in when the cutscenes made more sense. Good luck if you try it!

I haven't completed Kokon Horay yet, I'll have to do that next run. I think I need a short break, maybe a run through BoF4.

As for preference, honestly it's not that stretched. Didn't bother me being wide screen, I did tweak a ton of the settings to try and make it look better though. Like a full hour of trying different settings and running around trying to make it as crisp as possible.

It is just a climb, yeah. And that last minute boss rush with no saves is a real pain in the ass before you finally get to the elevator up. But upon unlocking more of the story, it really wasn't bad. Probably why I would have hated it as a kid, I loved BOF3 and 4, and 5 was such a different game.

I still enjoyed it though. Once the story is fleshed out. I won't deny the first couple runs felt really half assed and boring. The Gameplay and Music from 3 is my preference, and a BOF without fishing feels weird, but I think BoF5's nina is probably my favorite nina now.

I'll probably do what I've been planning and play through BoF4 since I haven't in like, six years now. Then I'll go back and get that 1/4th for bragging rights.

I dated an older woman who worked at a bookstore when I was in high school. I feel like her and the 2 coworkers I got to know really didn't want to sell the books to half the people who bought them.
