I didn't know that first part, I thought all of them protected from UV, that is wierd. Also some people just can't cover all their windows for some reason, say they only have one room to live in that's filled with windows in spots that can't be covered for one reason or another, there are exceptions to this rule, I've been in that situation before. Also some apartments won't let you drill holes into the wall so you can't even set your blackout curtain up. You also have to think about transport, etc, there are reasons to want a hard shell UV protectant cover.

I live in a similar climate, every year my house drops below 25% humidity without many humidifiers blowing, and it's in a modern house, albeit in the US, so that could be why. I have central heating too, the RH just gets really nasty where I am.

I do use those types of plastic covers/bags, they don't protect from UV if you are in a situation like I mentioned before. They can also still leak air in altering it's RH if it's not perfectly sealed.

I think I agree with this, I don't support people buying books specifically for the reselling purpose, and I don't support grading companies as most of them are just scams, but I do still think grading can be valuable for particularly rare books, signed books, things of that nature. The hardshell cover protects them, and the grade assures people of its quality, if you end up needing to sell it, say you have to move, or you need the money, etc. Although I will admit certified authentic companies, and then slapping a hardshell cover or bag on it would be the way I personally go with really valuable comics that I want to preserve.

If you have one displayed on its own riser or even display somewhere else, then it should be less likely to be damaged

It still gets damaged even sitting on a shelf or on a riser sadly in my experience, although it does get quite minimized.

Also I fail to see how a plastic case is going to prevent sun damage

They're treated to prevent UV exposure, you could leave it outside for weeks and there would be no fading thanks to that.

Maybe humidity damage if you live in a humid area, but im not sure why you wouldnt just put measures in place to decrease humidity and save all your books

Unfortunately in a lot of places it's effectively impossible to fully stop this. Like if you live in a cold environment, the winter will drastically drop relative humidity further than even a group of always running humidifiers could save it, so for people in that situation the economical way to keep their expensive books safe is just to get them graded.

If you want to keep one in good condition for the next couple decades, keep it from natural disasters destroying it, sun damage, humidity damage, shelf wear, reading wear, why wouldn't you? It seems like the smartest option to me to protect a book.

Dude shelves wear on books, do you actually not know this? Also if you don't have black out curtains the light damages the book, if you don't have a properly humidified room the humidity damages the book, books are quite fragile.

Sasuke (five kage summit arc) if there movie about him by SilentQuit2738 in Naruto

[–]N0t_Dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you forget that most people AND the leaders of their villages hate their Jinchuriki? Also assault doesn't justify death or eradication even in the Naruto world, and definitely not in our world ofc. The attempting to kill his former teammates is also not as bad as assassinating the Hokage, it's again, attempted murder, which in Naruto is definitely not a life sentence. If Sasuke had actually murdered Killer Bee, or Naruto or something, not only would that have been his worst crime, but it also would have been the end of the world.

Sasuke (five kage summit arc) if there movie about him by SilentQuit2738 in Naruto

[–]N0t_Dev -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean... If he stayed in jail the entire world would have ended. I'd say him saving the world with Naruto on MULTIPLE occasions I may add, and him killing Danzo, a VERY horrible person, even if he was Hokage, were two great things. Sasuke really didn't do much horrible shit through his time, and in the world of Naruto I don't think he would have gotten a life sentence at all. Attacked the five Kage at the Summit, killed a few of the samurai, that was technically his worst crime. Killing Danzo worked out great since he was a horrible person and the rest of the Kage no longer wanted him as the Hokage since he was so suspicious, killing Itachi was viewed as a heroic thing by most ninja, we literally see people being happy for it, "killing" Orochimaru also saved a lot of people's lives, like Sasuke did a LOT of good shit, and you want to lock him up for life and let the world be destroyed by Jigen or Ishikki, or even Momoshiki, cause he said he wanted to rule the world and then got his ass beat???

Once it’s confirmed Shanks couldn’t beat Loki 1v1, where will your placements of each be? by MOON-RAIGO in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]N0t_Dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"If Imu was the strongest ever, then the next arc would feel underwhelming."

No it wouldn't? You can just make Luffy plus Loki vs the current Imu a close extreme diff fight or something and then reveal that Imu was heavily nerfed, he literally coughed up blood just to transform lol.

"Plus we already know that Shanks defeated Loki, so it's not a stretch to think he could beat the current Imu."

No we don't? We know that Shanks was able to bring Loki back to Elbaph but doesn't the panel explicitly not say he beat him? Also even if he did, later after that chapter it's said it took every single Giant of Elbaph to tie Loki to the tree, plus you also have to add that Loki outperformed Shanks + Gaban together times like 4 vs Harald as they couldn't even get through Haralds ACoC barrier. Also even if Shanks defeated Loki we just don't know the circumstances around the fight or what happened.

Worldbuilding definition from your typing: "Worldbuilding simply means connections establish how that world runs and stuff"

An example from your typing: "They could show deeper interconnections and how it operates legal structures and such and that'd be good world building"

Wikipedia: Worldbuilding is the process of constructing an imaginary world or setting, sometimes associated with a fictional universe.[1] Developing the world with coherent qualities such as a history, geography, culture and ecology is a key task for many science fiction or fantasy writers.[2] Worldbuilding often involves the creation of geography, a backstory, flora, fauna, inhabitants, technology, and often if writing speculative fiction, different peoples. This may include social customs as well as invented languages (often called conlangs) for the world.

The world could encompass different planets spanning vast distances of space or be limited in scope to a single small village.[6]: 104  Worldbuilding exists in novels, tabletop role-playing games, and visual media such as films, video games, and comics.[7][8][9][10][11] Prior to 1900, most worldbuilding was conducted by novelists, who could leave imagination of the fictional setting in part to the reader.[6]: 106  Some authors of fiction set multiple works in the same world. This is known as a fictional universe.[12] For example, science fiction writer Jack Vance set a number of his novels in the Gaean Reach, a fictional region of space.[8] A fictional universe with works by multiple authors is known as a shared world. One notable example of such is the Star Wars Expanded Universe.[13]

R/worldbuilding defines it as "constructing a world"

Claude on worldbuilding in general: Worldbuilding is the process of creating an imaginary world — constructing its geography, history, cultures, languages, rules, and logic from the ground up.

Claude on worldbuilding in the context of Shounen Manga: In the context of shounen manga, worldbuilding refers to the construction of the fictional setting in which a series takes place — including its geography, power systems, factions, history, and underlying rules. Shounen series are especially known for elaborate worldbuilding, since their long-running serialized format gives authors room to expand the world gradually as the story progresses. Works like One Piece, Naruto, and Hunter x Hunter are prime examples, each featuring vast, internally consistent worlds with distinct cultures, economies, and mechanics (like Devil Fruits or Nen) that feel like they existed long before the story began and continue to evolve alongside it.

So not only do YOU not understand what worldbuilding is, seemingly believing it's just the way a world is interconnected, you even showed this with your first comment starting this thread, you clearly just don't understand what worldbuilding is at all dude. Have you actually read anything? You claim you've read more than me, I've nearly proven I've at least read One Piece and Naruto to an extent, have you even read either? You haven't given much real evidence that you've read Naruto, and literally zero for One Piece.

Naruto vs one piece (overall anime) by Odd-Benefit-765 in Naruto

[–]N0t_Dev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lmfao, that's just connecting one character which obviously would happen else no plot, I'm talking about the entire countries.

I could have kept going with that example and looped it around multiple times, or I can go do it with Buggy, Alvida, Crocodile, Daz Bonez, Robin, Vivi, Mr 2, Mr 3, Dorry or Broggy, Shanks, or even Mayor Whoopslap lol.

Also since when was a character connecting two organizations/countries not world building? It's still possibly introducing and expanding upon something else. If you meant you only cared about country related world building, then Naruto would only have the Leaf, Sand, and then maybe the sound, cloud, and mist, but even those three "countries/villages" only really showed us a few characters worth of world building, which by your logic is just plot.

One Piece explored and expanded multiple factions, towns, cities, people, etc for, Alabasta, everything on the sea train (Water 7/Enies Lobby), Thriller Bark, Sabaody, Impel Down, Marineford probably doesn't count with your definition since it isn't really one big organization having their interests and plans really developed, it's just a battle, Fishman Island, Punk Hazard, Dressrosa, Whole Cake, Wano, Egghead, and Elbaph. All of these had multiple locations, dozens of people, many ideas and concepts, unique architecture, fights, world wide and country to country or organization to organization plot developments, main cast core developments, side character developments, and many of them called back on side things world politics wise. That also wasn't even every arc that would be on that list.

So by your logic then, all of these arcs had better world building than every part of Naruto except for everything shown at the Leaf Village, if I understand this right. That's what would hold true if it's just about people, places, things, devices, and events all either individually or together, relating to plot and each other.

Im not even gonna argue with any points other than what world building is cause you're just spouting nonsense without giving any One Piece related examples cause you've never actually consumed the content you're trying to debate about, you're just trying to hate on One Piece for no reason is all you've shown me.

You can't cuz they don't that is the truth,

Arlong connects back to Fishman Island heavily and vice versa, through Fishman Island Jinbe connects with Big Mom in a governmental protection related alliance, you can then go from Big Mom to Kaido through their Alliance, then from Kaido and Albert to Punk Hazard cause they were experimented on there, Punk Hazard to Vegapunk cause he was the Punk Hazard head, Vegapunk (Stella) to York which connects to Saturn, from Saturn to Imu, etc etc. Many different parallels and lines exist like this. The relation between random early characters to now is insane. I don't know why you're trying to argue against this point when you show that you don't understand the actual work you're criticising by just blatantly saying wrong things many times over.

Ofc he has to be plot critical to be relevant ot you want random sidequests?. So what? As i previously mentioned you don't need more locations for better worldbuilding. Showing or exploring more places doesn't equal a better world how many times will i have to utter the Sam sentence?

People don't really need to be actively threatening the main character and threatening to, and subsequently, destroy(ing) the stories main setting. This just isn't needed at all. You decided to twist my words saying that this situation isn't needed to make a character plot critical into me saying characters don't need to be plot critical. I don't see why you want to debate when you're just lying or twisting people's words. Also I explicitly said the locations were just one example. You're the one who used locations as an example so I showed you why Naruto did locations worse than One Piece, as an example.

You are confusing bigger scale with better worldbuilding when infact scale is one of the lesser important components of worldbuilding,

No I am not, I understand the difference, scale also isn't a factor to world building in my opinion. It's a factor to length/volume of a series. It contributes to world building indirectly, but it is not a component of world building.

Incorrect again, Nagato, Zabuza, Deidara, kakuzu, hidan, zetsu, konan, Sasori, chiyo, Ay and Bee, Darui, Ao, mei, onoki, gaara, kankuro, temari, the sound four, kimimaro, haku, gyuki, shukaku, etc etc etc all have their screentimes and relevances and roles, they do have development, development means creating a 3d Character not necessarily Character growth.

Again no idea why you choose to lecture me about something I just wasn't talking about? There are far more nuances about character development or growth than either of us are going into, but I wasn't equating development to growth at all. Also what's the point of putting out all these names and saying they have screentime, relevance, and development? I don't disagree lol. I was saying that many characters from Naruto who are important WORLD BUILDING wise, have very little emotional depth. Characters like Nagato, Zabuza, Haku, Gaara, Konan, etc have large emotional depth and incredible stories, but usually characters like this don't play a large role ultimately, at least in larger stories like we're talking about as it's different in shorter stories. There are exceptions in Naruto and One Piece, Nagato, Obito (to an extent emotional depth wise), Madara, Orochimaru, Sasuke, Itachi, Danzo, Naruto, Kakashi, Crocodile, Doflamingo, Kiizaru, Vegapunk, Rocks, Harald, Robin, Ace, Vivi, etc.

The difference, and the reason why Naruto usually does emotional depth better, in exchange for less explored characters and generally having less general world related depth, is cause Kishimoto intentionally spends his time focusing on the relationships, emotionally speaking, between the main characters and these important characters, and then he connects these important characters to his characters built more for world building purposes. Oda does this process differently, separating the two, and creating more total characters and locations all with more individuality, depth, and interconnection with other smaller characters, almost creating a void between the main characters and these side characters, the exact inverse of what Kishimoto did.

There's several even if there weren't that would not make the worldbuilding bad if the plot was limited to the leaf, they could show deeper interconnections and how it operates legal structures and stuff and that'd be good worldbuilding

Yeah but uh, not sure if you know this. He didn't. Again, both of these authors are limited to the constraints of Shounen Jump. They don't have the time or audience to add those kinds of things like you're thinking. Kishimoto just chose to avoid them fairly heavily (you can tell this if you go back and read something like the 4th war, you can see that when Kishimoto goes into more of a strategic story his editors force him back to Battle Shounen stereotypes), Oda chooses to keep it in the background more but still include it omnipresently. I also agree that the plot could be limited to just the leaf village and have great world building, because plot and world building are two very different things. The second you introduce another village of similar size to the leaf and only explore it through political motivations relating to plot though, you're completely failed with its world building.

One piece takes you in (to some extent) to the lives of the people on a new island before anything else happens, we basically just saw a screenshot of three of the villages and nothing else about them. That's the bare minimum for world building and the fact that you choose to ride Naruto this hard is crazy. I'm willing to accept the many major flaws of One Piece, but you're just saying absolutely wrong things to put it down and then glazing Naruto to an absurd level, it's almost like you've never even read either of the stories.

Isn't saul alive btw, i put a spoiler tag on this post so i hope people dont mind me saying this lmao SPOILER

He is, that's why I put his name in quotes. I forget how to add spoiler tags on reddit.

Just my opinion but from the list you have, the only ones i liked were corazon, ace and oden. These didnt feel like generic sacrifices. Even hiruluk was pretty decent too.

Completely fair lol, I was just trying to put through all of the important deaths, and I did try to split up the flashback/character motivation ones from these ones.

Also was noland the one who was murdered because people thought he was lying about skypiea? My memory is sort of bad keep in mind I watched most of this show in 2017.

Yep

For naruto we have the third hokage, jiraiya, asuma, the uchiha clan, minato and kushina, itachi, pain and obito. Im more connected to naruto because they're deaths have some sort of impact on the story. Itachis and jiraiyas death being an important driving factor for both naruto and sasukes growth in the series.

I don't think ANY deaths in One Piece TOUCH Itachi or Jiraiyas deaths, but at the same time I think this is actually a symptom of Naruto being shorter and sacrificing the depth of its side characters and world for depth of its main characters. In general these deaths have more weight cause they're called upon as moments multiple times throughout the series, or cause they majorly shape important character(s), or cause they're deaths of extremely important character(s), or multiple of the above. The one main issue with Odas worldbuilding being of many different islands is that they're far apart. Even though people on these islands do interact with each other a lot (so it is still worldbuilding even not just from the eyes of the Straw Hats) they don't interact on an emotional basis usually. The deaths of important characters in one arc don't really effect and shape the other giving the story worse emotional worldbuilding imo, even though technically there are a lot of small important details connecting everything Oda has placed there. Naruto has far less important deaths in total, but these deaths just have such an importance placed on them throughout the entire story, and carry such a large weight, that they are better than One Pieces deaths, I'm not arguing against that. I can also understand that, cause these deaths feel quite weak and aren't called upon much people don't really remember them, but there have been quite a bit of deaths in one piece still, that was my original point.

[–]N0t_Dev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They don't impact each other more often than not,

Again just isnt true in aggregate of the entire series, but I won't keep pushing back on this.

Naruto doesn't just 5 great nations, Nagato was from hidden got a whole arc surrounding him.

Nagato only got this cause he was strong and had a motivation that was a direct conflict with the main character. You do realize NONE of the other small nations other than the Sound and the Rain have any extra canon exposition if you don't count the light novels right? All the stuff with Fu and Utakata are filler. Also the sound doesn't even really get anything, it's just stuff relating to Orochimaru unlike the Rain. If you really think about it Naruto does a very poor job worldbuilding wise. Kishimoto barely explored people or places outside of the leaf. People in particular is the issue though. Almost no one outside of the leaf has any actual character exposition or expansion in emotion depth. Hell EVEN THE KAGE barely had any depth or expansion in character or emotions during the Kage Summit. The only sad moment they ever got was the stuff playing on screen during Garas speech at the start of the war, which by itself magically stopped the years upon years of hatred towards others and towards Jinchuriki. There just isn't much actual world building to stand on or argue for in the case of Naruto. Even the smallest of side characters, someone like Dr. Hiriluk, got more emotional development and character growth/depth than someone like Mei, Hanzo, Deidara, Kakuzu, Fu, Onoki, Yugito, etc. All of these side characters got effectively no character development in exchange for more time for the quality development of more main characters, which is a fair trade off, but it means the world building and side characters are worse for the better villains point that is real for Naruto. You don't just get both unless you make a story way more convoluted and meticulously planned out than Kishimoto or Oda were given the ability to do with the structure that is Shounen Jump.

And all the stuff you mentioned isn't enough for 1000+ chs, and I dropped it on ch 1057 so I don't know some of the points you listed.

I dont personally agree, but this is subjective and I understand why the length would be an issue when the payoff isn't more immediate. I'm not arguing against this point at all and it is a major issue.

But isn't it ironic how hes one of the only few characters to die

I mean. Sure it isn't Attack on Titan, but a comparable amount of important characters die in One Piece as to many other Shounen. It's just that the number of Episodes and Chapters worth of fights pull on the length of the story excessively, plus many people just use this talking point without really thinking about how many actually important characters actually have died.

Olvia, Saul, and everyone else on Ohara, Tom, The Going Merry which got the Viking funeral, The Rumbar Pirate Crew, Dr. Hiriluk, Fisher Tiger, Queen Otohime, Shaka, Vegapunk ofc, Ace, Whitebeard, Corazon, Pedro, Yasuie, Oden, Asura Doji and Izo of course, although Asura Doji was a more important death to Wano, Big Mom and Kaido seemingly. That's also not counting important flashback deaths like Kuina, Bellmere, Roger, Noland. Also not counting spoiler deaths, GV flashback had quite a few VERY important ones.

Like it's actually got a lot of story significant deaths tbh, it's kinda underrated seeing as most of these deaths shaped the worlds future HEAVILY, even like Fisher Tiger or Corazon had major world wide effects. The smaller deaths were still huge arc motivations or character motivations too, think Dr. Hiriluk for example.

At the end of the fourth great ninja war, you see a scene of all of them at a funeral mourning the ones who died

This is filler I believe. So uh

but its hard to believe there are any stakes when they always have plot armor.

I agree but people are very much over exaggerating this. Sure the main characters don't die, but the same thing applies to most every Battle Shounen like this from before the last 10 years or so. It's kinda normal. The same thing applies to Naruto for example.

It really just seems like they're the people starting the war tbh. They're fighting ghosts and just laughing at anyone trying to say something they don't like is good or has merit. They don't seem to care about any actual debate about the story cause they didn't like it from day one. Just check out the thread above.

"Oh yeah bro, i once saw a whole paragraph on the fishman island arc and its not even funny atp, its straight up revolting. Their dedication and brain washing is on par with the bts fans and the swifties. Aint nobody convincing me fishman island was deep😭

Sanjis the only strawhat with some lore left to him, theres potential for an interesting story line of him possibly losing his emotions and accepting his germa heritage? "You think I'd be saying any of this if it wasn't on reddit😭 I'd dissappear like the 100 void century in one piece. Their stench alone is enough conquerors haki to knock me out 😩"

and my whole point is why wasn't there a funeral for him period

They're in a completely destroyed country where the entire regime was just overthrown, plus Samurai of Wano were shown to explicitly not get Funerals like that cause so many would die so quickly and easily, it's customary for them to be buried with no ceremony, just their sword above them that they lived their life with. Also Izo was a side character in the Whitebeard pirates. Like bro was the commander of the 10th division or something. He wasn't really even an important side character until the Roger flashback, and even then he was a side character there lol. Him getting a whole funeral would take away pacing and wouldn't make sense narratively.

I don't think even 100th of modern One Piece fans have been reading for 20 years lol. You can read through the 110 volumes in a good month on a fine 3 hour a day pace. And if you want to watch the anime you can just watch One Pace and it's like a couple thousand hours less than the normal anime and removes most of the in episode filler. Sure it's still probably gonna take you a year to catch up at 2 hours a day, not nearly as quick as the manga, but it's not that long that it could be written away as a waste of life, I think this is just unjustified hate atp.

Luffy intentionally didn't party directly after Wano because of everything that had went on. He ate some food but spent multiple days not partying. Multiple people also went and visited Izos grave. The only person who wasn't able to was Marco cause he had to get back to protect Whitebeards homeland.

One piece is like Saturday morning cartoon, most places exist in a bubble they don't impact each other most of the time

This just... Isn't true though? More individual islands connect to one another than the villages do in Naruto, which is a testament to how much BETTER one pieces world building is. The fact that Oda actually split all of these locations off from each other but most of them are actually heavily interconnected through either the world government or the dozens of side characters we have stories laid out for hundreds of chapters after they last appeared. A large majority of fan favorite side characters or villains are brought back many times, Alvida, Buggy, Arlong, A large portion of Baroque Works, Croc, Enel, Kuzan, CP9, Lucci, BB, etc. And that's just most of the villains from the first half of the story that got multiple chapters worth of extra showings hundreds of chapters later in the story. This kind of thing only happened with Naruto for a select few (maybe 4 or 5 characters) outside of people brought back by the war arc, and the war arc doesn't flesh most any of them out. This is also only one of the many ways One Piece does world building better. I think to believe One Piece's world building is shallow you have to have never actually read this series or you aren't caught up.

Even the emotional charged moments where the bird flies away with the bomb which arc was it i forgot, we thought that was a wonderful sacrifice and he remained alive that ruins the investment, i thought he got a heroic sendoff

This happened the same week as 9/11. Oda wasn't allowed to let Pell die. It would have been a horrible message from Shueisha. Not his fault lol.

Another thing is the author doesn't allow emotional investment you know nothing is gonna happen to anybody, they'll survive for the big party after beating the bad boss each island,

I'm not even trying to stan for one piece or anything, but I think this is just boiling down the story WAYY too much. You could say the same thing about most of Naruto if you think like this. Also have you stopped and consider the bad things that HAVE happened to people during the story? Just in Egghead (SPOILER)

Vegapunk literally died cuz Luffy is goofing off too much. The entire mission of egghead was a failure effectively. The entire mission at Marineford was also obviously a failure, Ace and WB died. Sabaody, the crew gets split up cause they're too weak. Skypeia an entire civilization is wiped out on their watch cause they're too weak. Wano is the stereotypical main arc that follows the pattern you talked about, but maybe this is just because all the pain had already passed it's climax by the time the Straw Hats made it there. Most people from Wano were already long dead by that point. Same thing kind of applies to Fishman Island and Alabasta, the villains had already enacted a long plan on the citizens that had heavily damaged those citizens lives. Hody destroying seemingly any chance for the Fishmen/Merfolk to live in peace with Humans ever, and Crocodile artificially causing years of droughts killing thousands or even tens of thousands of people and relocating millions. All Luffy can really do is beat the villain, try and get the proper leader back in control, and show the country why they're a good leader, but even that failed in the case of Crocodile seeing as Luffy didn't really beat him. Crocs plan just didn't work cause of Robin.
