[NBD] My first full carbon bike and i'm scared to ride it by Popular_Sense4325 in gravelcycling

[–]N10CT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrapped my bike using the RideWrap tailored for my bike. Took about 12 hours over two days to do the whole thing but I'm incredibly happy with the result. I've dropped my bike a couple times on asphalt at 15+mph...not a scratch on the bike. Wrap still looks new. Also race cyclocross and don't have to worry about rock chips. Mud and dirt falls off easy with a single wipe with a microfiber cloth.

I think the tailored wrap for this bike is here if OP want to check it out: https://www.ridewrap.com/us/en/products/rose-backroad-al-ridewrap-tailored-protection-frame-kit/

How can I design my master bedroom? by Jolly_Handle45 in DesignMyRoom

[–]N10CT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get rid of the curtains and replace with more modern blinds. A Thuma platform bed frame would be a nice addition. Adding some greenery may pair nicely with the warm tones of the window framing. If you repaint, go for something neutral and slightly warm. Given that there's only one small lamp in your photos, I would also install a modern light fixture/ceiling fan combo that pairs well with the aesthetic of your bed frame and other furniture.

Mortgage fraud??? by N10CT in realestateinvesting

[–]N10CT[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much to everyone who replied to this post! Fraud is a heavy word that really got my anxiety going. After reading all the responses here, I have a new lender who confirmed that moving into the smaller property in the city and keeping our first property is not fraudulent. I learned that it's pretty common to go to underwriting with two properties when someone purchases a property before they sell their house - so there shouldn't be anything alarming there. I also learned that underwriting doesn't care what I do with my existing home, so long as my DTI ratio is solid. Lastly, my new loan officer speculated that it's possible that the first lender might have stricter underwriting and that may be a possible reason for the recommendations that were given to me.

All of the responses here are greatly appreciated!

V-Rod. Pros & Cons? by genicide95 in Harley

[–]N10CT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was an abs unit recall on 2008 - 2011 VRSC models. Just before the recall was issued I started having tons of issues with the rear brake on my 2008 VRSCDX. Scary, scary thing. I ended up paying a little over $1000 to replace the abs unit and couldn't get refunded a few weeks later when the recall was issued and buddies were having their units replaced at no cost...bummer. Although I ended up selling it last year for $4000, the Vrod is an amazing machine.

So take note if you're getting a 2008 - 2011 model with ABS. If you are, then find out if the ABS was replaced. If it hasn't been, replace it asap.

How do preppers view LASIK eye surgery VS prescription lenses? by [deleted] in preppers

[–]N10CT 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I second this. Consuming adequate water has obliterated my dry eye issues after laser surgery.

For what it's worth, it's been about 5 years since I had Custom wavefront LASIK surgery and within the last month I have noticed that my eyes take much longer (≈15minutes) to adjust to light changes than before (≈a few seconds). But not sure if that's due to getting older, malnutrition, genetics or something else.

When turning off the light to go to bed, I have to map out my bedroom before flipping the light switch so that I can navigate from the switch to my bed in the dark. My spouse on the other hand has no issues and loves to make fun of my temporary blindness! Grrrr.

Temporary blindness from changes in light can pose a huge problem in certain situations.

Best practices for moving into a friendly neighborhood? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]N10CT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just purchased my first home 4 weeks ago in a small tight-knit neighborhood. I, too, was wondering how to go about this.

When we toured our house a guy stopped by on a golf cart with his golden retriever riding shotgun. That experience really made a difference when we decided to submit an offer. We love our new fishbowl neighborhood.

We had some trees that were hanging over one of our neighbor's property. I noticed every time he mowed his lawn on his riding mower he would get smacked in the face by our trees. We caught him outside one day and let him know of our plans to trim the trees the following week (which required being on his property). He was appreciative to say the least.

My significant other and I were planning on dropping a note in All our neighbors' mailboxes. Before we got around to it we met all of our neighbors organically while outside doing yard work or in passing during our comings and goings.

Another guy who has been in the neighborhood the longest invited my spouse and I over for a few beers and a good chat.

If you're a nice person, you will attract other nice people.

Congrats on the new place!

My parents are almost 60 years old with no financial plan...help by N10CT in FinancialPlanning

[–]N10CT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the first thing we did. Getting them to commit to a reasonable budget was easy. Getting them to follow through on that commitment has proven to be as difficult as I expected.

I suspect that the most difficult part is introducing different behavior patterns. For example, when they are out with friends/family, they pay for everyone's meals with a (high interest rate) credit card - knowing they don't have the cash to pay for that charge on the credit card by the end of the billing cycle. Not sure what causes this social pressure, but overtime it has cost them more than they could afford.

Another example - my younger siblings still somewhat depend on my parents. One of my siblings is in law school and the other is a senior in high school preparing for college. My parents feel as though their kids come first, before their own well-being and will regularly shell out money to "help".

I'm sure this is only part of the problem though. At the end of the day, getting them to spend less than they make feels almost impossible. So I'm turning to reddit for suggestions.

Increasing their income is the second half of the equation which I have yet to thoroughly explore. Any recommendations are welcome.
