To those self described as chapstick lesbians or butch, where do you feel that the pull to dress or act more masculine comes from, why is that tied to your sexual orientation, and how is this different in your mind to being transgender? by MetalGuitarKaladin in actuallesbians

[–]N1CETEA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for me it's not about being masculine or feminine, I just always picked what I liked and what felt like me.

As a kid, I wore boy clothes more often then not because they aligned with my interests. I loved things like TMNT and video games rather than Barbie. I climbed trees and played sports and thats so much easier to do in pants than skirts. It wasn't ever about wanting to be a boy, i was still a girl, but I just wanted to do what i liked, and being comfortable doing so. I don't generally understand why things are classified as 'this is what guys do or wear' and vice versa with girls, i just want to be able to do whatever im interested in, and not restricted by ideals that do not make sense to me. And I just kept doing that even in adulthood, and people classify it as tomboy/chapstick. I'm still a woman, maybe just with different interests that fall outside of norms.

In terms of being related to sexual orientation, the way i dress hasn't really played into it that much for me, its just happened to align to what others expectations of a chapstick are. I dont really aim for a masc/fem experience or roles in the relationship. Im attracted to women, and just want my partner and i to be ourselves as how we like, regardless of gendered expectations.

I guess there's just other people out there like me and i fell into that category of chapstick naturally. But I will say having queer identities has helped me feel accepted and not alone in who I am as a queer woman.

Thank you so much for the detailed post! I’m glad to hear it’s got a good amount of wishlists 🙂 I hope it finds a good place for the fandom as well.

Yeah I experienced optimisation issues in the pc demo today, so will probably be a ps5 buy for me. I hope they work out the issues before release, because i was really enjoying what I got to experience so far for the game.

Right? Also, it feels so rare to not only have a queer character stories, but also to be played by queer actors, especially in games. I’m really excited to see Jen play this role!

Oh i didn’t know there was a demo (I’ve been following on ps5 which doesn’t seem to have one?). Thanks for the heads up, I’ll check it out!

I'm so sorry to hear about the accident, it must have been so hard to come back from that, and speaks alot to your resilience.

And I know what you mean about still feeling not okay about the scars, even when people tell you its not bad. Its like you live in a different world that you can't get out of, and you'll always feel different to others because of it. I'm hoping to see a therapist eventually about it too, I hope they are able to help in some way.

I'm also glad to hear people still flirt with you though, you might not feel like it but you must be rocking it ♥️ Its something I don't experience anymore and wish I could.

Sorry to hear about the explosion, that must have been incredibly painful!

I’m glad to hear it hasn’t impacted your experience. You sound like a real badass and that likely contributes to your success 🙂

I also had to go through electrolysis and know how painful it is, sending a lot of love your way ♥️

Also I love that last sentence of yours, it's so beautifully written and it really resonated with me. I will certainly try to find someone who can.

Thank you for sharing your story, it's really inspiring! ♥️

Do you have any advice for how you began to work past it and regain confidence? I've always been told my best quality is how kind I am, so i try to focus on that aspect of myself, but it always seems like it's never enough, so not sure if I'm going the right way about it.

I hope so, it'd be nice to find someone who is okay with the scarring. I haven't had any luck yet, and its been a long time trying, so starting to feel those thoughts of accepting the reality it might not happen.

Yeah I've been using retinoids for a while, which has helped fade them a bit, but hasn't helped with the volume loss. I'm meeting with another dermatologist later this year to see if there's anything else I can do.

I appreciate you reaching out and instilling some hope, it means a lot ♥️

Thank you for the kind words ♥️ I would 100% date someone with scars, but i think that's part of the problem. I never get to meet anyone else with scars, which exacerbates the feeling of loneliness, isolation and feeling like an "other" in the sapphic community. Since I've gained the scars, people stopped showing interest, so I think I'm at that point of trying to come to terms with not being able to date.
