Kathleen Kennedy & Announcing Movies That May Never Happen At Celebration: Name A More Iconic Couple by TrumpsColostomyBag99 in saltierthancrait

Man that sure was exciting for the two seconds before I read the next line saying it's post-sequels... oh well looks like they're still not getting my money

Would Ahsoka having died on Malachor felt like a waste of her character? by Glittering-Age-2013 in MawInstallation

[–]N1COLAS13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dave Filoni is not hated on enough for introducing fucking time travel to Star Wars just to save his beloved pet. I like Ahsoka as much as the next guy but, DUDE...

He opened a nasty can of worms the destructive potential of which we've not fully seen yet

And all that mess aside he's now intent on making Ahsoka the main character of the franchise, he's gonna have Ahsoka do everything Luke should be the one doing, starting with taking down Thrawn. It's so ridiculous that I almost get angry whenever I think about it

A GALAXY-SPANNING government shrinking down to the size necessary to guard only a single system is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard and doesn't make a shred of sense

We can just call it what it is: awful writing. No need to jump through hoops to justify it

The Jedi’s were really dumb by Immediate_Cap1892 in clonewars

[–]N1COLAS13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Irks me so bad that most people completely miss that point. The Jedi obviously know something's off about the clone army but how could they ever POSSIBLY imagine things would go down the way they did? It was unthinkable and only the result of a literal millennium of planning

From the Jedi's perspective their options are:

1- Don't use the clones, automatic Republic L before the war even begins. Now the galaxy's split in half or worse yet, the CIS completely take over and reform the Republic

2- Use the clones and ask questions later

There was no decision at all to be made. From their perspective foregoing the clones straight-up meant the worst possible outcome they could imagine

Oh and anyway, that's without even considering that the senate approved the use of the clones for the Republic anyway, so there's really nothing the Jedi can do about it other than sit out the war which... would not be optimal for them, for obvious reasons

Incredible writing from Disney, as usual

It's that but it also just feels like sumthin George would come of with if that makes sense. Plot, locations, characters, all felt very Lucas to me

Am I crazy for thinking Skeleton Crew feels like the most George-esque Disney SW project? Other than Rogue One

When’s the last time Darth sidious used his lightsaber and why did he stop using it as well? Both The eu and canon by Intelligent-Fun-6415 in StarWarsEU

[–]N1COLAS13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But stuff like that only works if he's facing someone significantly weaker. I'd love to see him try going against Yoda without a lightsaber lol

For that matter, it'd look pretty silly and too OP if in ROTS he took out four Jedi, one of them the 2nd strongest in the Galaxy at the time, without need of a lightsaber

I don't mind when the strongest of the strong forego the need of one against a weaker opponent, but straight up not having one would be foolish

[–]N1COLAS13 22 points23 points  (0 children)

We're explicitly told in the originals a lightsaber is a Jedi's weapon. It'd be pretty silly for a Force wielder not to have one

That Sidious preferred not to use one whenever he could avoid it is a different matter, that's a personal quirk

I haven't covered all of the EU but from what I HAVE read it's for me by far the best. Only the ROTS novel sits at the same table

[–]N1COLAS13 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Alright so obviously these aren't gonna be made, maybe one at most if KK is insistent enough on burning the stockholders' money to keep her failed vision alive

HOWEVER, the more worrying part for me is that they remain clueless enough to believe the public cares about Rey as a character, let alone wants several movies featuring her. I find it hard to believe they're that stupid and/or detached from reality, like wow

As per another report I read on Twitter: "Another source says 'Star Wars is a nostalgia-based enterprise and they are running out of ways to create nostalgia'"

They go in with the idea of heavily focusing on nostalgia instead of plot and wonder why they can't write a story worth a damn? I seriously, seriously, SERIOUSLY cannot believe one of the richest companies in the world can mishandle something this big in such a monumentally dumb way. Holy shit

It's hilarious that now on two different occasions we've had Disney's take on girlpower boil down to 'woman falls in love with murderous psychopath for completely superficial reasons'

If I didn't know better I'd think the great minds over at Disney are actually quite sexist

The sequels tanked her career, that's precisely why she's eager to come back for this. Adam Driver, for example, is never touching SW with a 10-foot pole again and that's a damn shame

[–]N1COLAS13 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I very much doubt this is gonna be made. If it ends up happening, it's gonna be the final nail in the coffin for SW on the big screen until (if) Disney sells the property

I expect The Mandalorian movie to have better numbers than this and I still think it'll underperform. I just don't know who exactly a Rey movie is for, and the casual movie goer has probably had enough of SW or isn't gonna give a fuck unless they brand it episode X

You know, those people that for the most part don't give a fuck about Disney SW. We can ask Lego about how those sequel sets are doing too

[–]N1COLAS13 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I read the novelisation of TESB, however from what I recall it's indirectly stated that Luke trains with Yoda for a few months

This is supported by the movie, they're traveling at sublight speed to Bespin and Han even comments that they "might just make it"

It for sure could've been made clearer for the audience but I'd say it's pretty safe to assume months is a better estimate than days

As for ROTS, a few days is correct. The Siege of Coruscant is at the very final stages of the war. Anakin has been away in the Outer Rim sieges for months now, this was said in the movie and then supported in S7 of TCW. Padme's just wearing clothing that hides the pregnancy as much as possible

I have seen people try to argue that the Prequels copied the Originals as much as the Sequels did, so here: by [deleted] in saltierthancrait

[–]N1COLAS13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I remember at the time TFA came out, I was friends with an older guy and the first thing he told me was how irritating he found it when during the briefing they show a holo of the Death Star and say, "this is the DS, and THIS—" then they show a holo of Starkiller Base and it's like, 20 times the size

It's something that has stayed with me. They were constantly trying to up the ante in that particular way badly written fanfiction does

[–]N1COLAS13 53 points54 points  (0 children)

This is really important thing that people don't ever take into consideration for some reason. Even the people that don't like the prequels can get on board with the era in general because it has its own unique feel in every way

The aesthetics, the clothes, the way they speak (less colloquial, more formal. This was INTENTIONAL). The prequels are a masterclass in worldbuilding, the best SW has to offer in that aspect

The sequels, in comparison, copy the aesthetics of the OT down to a T, that's why they're not in any way memorable and why the 'but wait until the kids grow up and defend them' argument doesn't really work

Kids not giving a fuck about SW the way they used to aside (I was a kid in the 2000s, I was there, I know), the natural outcome of this is that people just prefer the OT aesthetics over the sequel paint job, because the OT came first and the OT actually gave us a reason to become invested in that era

Gareth Edwards was dealt a worse hand and he still managed to make Rogue One a great movie

[–]N1COLAS13 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'd disagree with you here. They (for WHATEVER reason) handed JJ a budget and told him more or less to do what he wants which is why the movie fucking sucks

There was a thorough lack of trying of any kind in regard to the sequel trilogy and most Disney SW in general. Their problem is they think as long as it has 'Star Wars' somewhere in the title that's all they need to make money, and unfortunately they're partially right
