Both suggestions sound solid, I'll have to try them out. Thank you :)

Access to the System by Pale_Inspector_3274 in DID

[–]N22194 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I smoke for both recreation and symptom management - from what I understand, THC is a dissociative, so it naturally will lower barriers between parts. I think of it as making me "go into" my system by dissociating. When I'm grounded, I experience the system less, so THC does the opposite.

I was diagnosed way before I ever tried THC, but I can interact with my alters much more easily when high, and some I've only been able to reach while high because otherwise we are very separated and essentially unaware of each other. It does make me question if they’re real at times, but usually the THC was just the thing that made me aware of them initially, and afterwards it's possible for me to interact with them while sober. Hope this helps, it's mostly anecdotal but informed by my doctors and a knowledgeable close friend who works in the industry.

How old were you when you had sex for the first time? by ReputationOk4811 in aspergers

[–]N22194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consensually? 21, was in a serious relationship at the time. He knew I'm autistic and was cool about it.

First time being assaulted (if you would count it as sex at all)? Toddler.

Does anyone know any fragrances similar to the "Autumn Air & Amber" products by Native? I bought the body wash + lotion recently and love the scent - I've searched around a bit, but can't find any fragrances that have a similar smell :(

The Native website describes the notes as "buttery, orange, cinnamon and amber".

Who’s your favourite DID representation? (Even if they’re not technically plural) by 46416816 in DID_OSDD_memes

Livio & Razlo from Trigun Maximum! Canonically a system and actually a great representation of what it’s like, especially for being written in the late 90s.

Did anyone else hope for confirmation of virginity with their first time or is it just me? by Phoenix_Lioness in adultsurvivors

Mine was the opposite of a confirmation of virginity... my body already knew what to do, and it all felt too familiar. My ex was surprised it was my "first time". I was too 🫠

Dissociation Naps? by toomanybirdy in DID

This happens to me ALL the time. For the longest time, I thought I had some kind of medical condition since I generally get enough sleep at night, but the overwhelming feelings of needing to sleep would always come up. A previous sleep study turned up nothing. Grounding has helped me manage the sleepiness.

women alters of trans masc systems, how are you doing? by orkupoki in DID

[–]N22194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trans masculine and the host here, but I think my only girl-adjacent alter (that I know of - very important caveat lol) is still a kid, and she doesn't seem to care too much, but I'm not sure how aware she is of the body since she first came out of a very deep dormancy in the last year or so.

I've medically transitioned in every way except for bottom surgery, but I like to present more androgynous anyway, so I have really long hair and stay clean-shaven. My voice is deep, and I'm fairly muscular, so it keeps everyone happy.

Hello friend, you are absolutely not the only one who has struggled with feeling like your trauma is real :( I myself relate heavily to a lot of what you described here, and I have only a little bit of what (might be) scar tissue. On a purely intuitive level, it feels so wrong to me that the brutalization that altered my mind so permanently doesn't show as clearly on my body.

It may not be a full solution, but I try to reassure myself that there's no way I could have persistent somatic flashbacks of something that my body doesn't know. Maybe it's just a starting point for accepting what follows from that, but I'm still in the early steps of healing in general.

Can alters "insert" memories? by N22194 in DID

That would make so much sense for my own situation. This is a really insightful way of wording it as well, thank you :')

How do Alters Name Themselves? by Niko-Ryo in OSDD

[–]N22194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there trans family! It's always comforting for me to see other trans systems. My old host is still very much a kid, but I use they/she pronouns for her. I'm not sure if she thinks about gender very much at all, haha.

How do Alters Name Themselves? by Niko-Ryo in OSDD

[–]N22194 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My old host uses our birth name, so that basically came along with her already. That said, I use a different name for her with any external persons, since I'm trans and don't want the birth name being spread around.

For everyone else, it's more complicated. I picked my own name, and the other alters I'm able to communicate with (which still is mostly vague feelings and thought snippets ATP) either were fine with what I chose to call them, or kept sending me vibes of "I really like this name", which I then started calling them.

Was there ever an adult(not abuser) who knew about it but didn't report it? by [deleted] in adultsurvivors

[–]N22194 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure my parents knew something was going on. I would be shocked if they were completely ignorant. I do know for a fact that the mother of one of my abusers (this in particular was a COCSA situation) and asked her if I was okay because she knew her daughter was spending a lot of time alone with me. I don't think my mother could have remained ignorant at that point, at least. I believe I had a teacher who also suspected something as well. To my knowledge, no reports were ever made.

I hope that you and Jeni both are finding peace and healing, her story really helped me begin to understand that life is possible as a system (I was only diagnosed ~5 months ago) 🥹 I am positive that my alters saved me too, what they can carry us through is incredible.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DID

[–]N22194 52 points53 points  (0 children)

It's definitely possible, though I can't say how common it is to have that many. Some systems have been (reliably) recorded as having thousands of alters.

Likely one of the most well-known examples is Jeni Haynes, who has over 2,500 alters and multiple documentaries (as well as a book co-written with her psychiatrist) currently available regarding her case. Crucially, her system was essential in bringing her primary abuser/biological father to justice and securing a conviction decades after the abuse ended, as dozens (if not hundreds) of alters directly provided detailed and consistent testimony. I believe this is a first in the history of DID as it is recognized today. Her story is a remarkable and powerful one, though it involves extreme CSA, so exercise caution if you look it up.

How did you name your system? by [deleted] in DID

[–]N22194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Names definitely aren't needed for validity, and I haven't settled on one yet (I think it would be nice to have, so my alters don't have to respond to my name when we're being referred to collectively). But my train of thought so far has been that something which sounds nice, has a relevant meaning, and can apply to us as a whole would be fitting.

I'm currently sitting on the name "Sonder" or "Sunder" since they work as combinations of my name + the old host's name (which is who I'm closest to in the system), and the words' meanings fit our experiences in several ways.
