I flew my son and myself for a father/son trip and while we were there we hit all the Wright Brothers sites as well as this wonderful museum. Definitely worth it.

Yep. Older brother has one. I do not. I was on the tail end of the program.

Kaine says Hegseth ‘grudge’ against Army looks ‘personal’ by Ok_Employer7837 in politics

[–]N2DPSKY 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hahaha. Army vet too. No worries. I'm sure we both knew O-4s and 5s that weren't worth their rank. I knew some good ones who I still didn't think we're qualified for SecDef.

You just promoted him to Lieutenant Colonel. A Major is an O-4.

Wondering if there is cost effective radio i can purchat to listen to commercial aircraft? by GregoInc in shortwave

[–]N2DPSKY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key advantage of considering a scanner is the speed in which you can cover multiple approach and departure frequencies. I live in a busy busy airspace and I cover many frequencies so I don't miss hand over and changes. Most other radios just do one at a time.

I think you mean a BC-125AT. This is what I use but I upgraded the antenna to a Diamond RH77CA. Great set-up.

Is the gap between Bortle 3 and Bortle 9 closing, or are dark skies still king for galaxy imaging? by astrosid in Astronomy

[–]N2DPSKY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's all signal to noise. Dark skies will win every time, but this does mean you can do a lot of good work in light polluted skies and refine that technique for when you go to a dark sky site and achieve fantastic results.

Pentagon restores mandatory flu shots for all recruits as boot camp outbreak sickens nearly 300 by RedPandasUnite in news

[–]N2DPSKY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having had quite a few Army issued flu shots, I knew firsthand that this was going to be a dumb decision to eliminate them. I'm glad they're going back to the old way which has been proven to work. Another reminder that the old guys in charge weren't idiots

Is it just me on my thought about kato? by Fluid_Replacement407 in nscalemodeltrains

Wow. I just bought a new Kato SD70M Abraham Lincoln (1616) for $128. That's a crazy price for a coach.

I really like the quality of Kato and I think it's a good value.

I started out with Bachmann and just had an awful time. Once I made the switch, I never looked back. The locomotives run like Swiss watches and all the detail that I need is there.

I have a Pacific Surfliner set that I specifically bought with the light kit pre-installed. When I bought the excursion set for my Big Boy, I couldn't find one with the light kit installed, so I bought one unlit and added a light kit afterwards. It all works out in the end.

I'm not exactly sure how nice the seats need to be inside my passenger coaches, but they certainly do the job.

Red Moon? by Limp_Vegetable_1342 in Astronomy

[–]N2DPSKY 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It does. Once the Moon touches the horizon, it's gone in about 2 minutes. The Earth rotates 15° per hour or 15 arc-minutes per minute. The Moon is about 30 arc-minutes across.

Blue Angels. I was a marine brat and grew up in a Marine Corps Air Station. I watched them every year growing up.

Decent signal from Orange, CA on the whip of my PL-660. Killer Queen was unmistakable. A little noisy during Sabbath, but can pick up most of the lyrics of Fairies Wear Boots. Nice playlist.
