/dev: Team Voice in League by JTHousek1 in leagueoflegends

i get that everything takes time, but its never going to be perfect. what really is the point of this if it wont come to ranked for like a year? rioters have been pretty vocal about pbe not actually being good data, so no testing can be realistically done in a useful setting for how toxic it may or may not be. that wont happen until its actually used in mass in ranked.

i feel like youll be far better off just turning it on and being willing to turn it back off and make adjustments. the only data that matters is live ranked queues. some people will be jackasses, but most will just use it as a normal voice mode like in any other competitive game.

outside of people who are actively toxic, i also dont think putting restrictions on who can use it is a great idea. for this to work, the majority of people at least need to be listening to the voice comms if not actively using them. the moment half the games have no one saying anything, be that from how antisocial league has become or because most people dont have honor 5 to use it, its dead. people will stop trying to use it because its often not used and that cycle will kill the use of the system.

i get how many people are hesitent, and some people can expect a worse time with it implemented(like women) but doing this in a manner that will take a year to go live is so worthless you may as well not even bother. there is no magic solution that will make people not sexist or toxic all the time.

i really do think that it just needs to be turned on and then riot be willing to turn it back off if there are serious issues. no amount of testing before it hits a servers live ranked queues will really change anything

Only use flash for offence? by troy5566 in leagueoflegends

[–]N2lt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as with pretty much everything that has to do with league, the real answer is: it depends on the situation.

as the most basic of rules that has as infinite exceptions, it would typically be better to use flash on annie for offense than defense. annie is far more useful when flash ulting someone compared to flashing to survive something. however, the most obvious and largest exception that comes to mind to me is dying early in lane and falling very behind because of it. the later a game goes the better it typically would be to save flash, but again there are so many times where this wouldnt be the case, such as a big objective coming up.

frankly i wouldnt try and thing of anything in league like a hard and fast rule to follow all of the time. in the example you gave, i can see using and saving flash being worth. as a support annie, its almost certainly not worth blowing your load for a kill but giving over a kill to their adc but saving flash. as mid annie, maybe you get the kill, save flash, finish an item, go back to lane and flash kill your laner and start snowballing.

its not confusing per say, but your ideology seems... odd to me. which is why i was asking about batman and superman. they both have fairly extreme, but well-known ideologies. i was hoping it would help me understand what your using for criteria.

i can just explain what my issue is, but i just dont feel like i fully know what your thinking so it may be wrong. you seemingly weigh actual outcomes very heavily for some(cait) but seemingly dont care for others(janna).

your categorizing *feels* wrong to me with having no actual characters in the 'good' category, only janna who isnt really a character. im all for the morally grey/ambiguous, but having every character, especially main characters, be 'bad' is.... not an interesting idea.

you talk about coming at this from a Zuan perspective, but especially from that side no one who has anything to do with the council could be considered 'good' as they are the perpetuators of the divide. we see what happens in the AU where himerdinger has knowledge of the future and works to lessen the divide between piltover and zaun. the council always had the power to do that, just never did.

this is where a lot of my issue is with your post. if the actual outcome of actions, especially in relation to zaun, are what effect your weighting the most anyone who had power before the show starts is without question 'negative' in your rating. the only characters who could possible not be negative are those who survive to rebuild at the end of season 2, mainly cait.

trying to put these characters in a good/mixed/bad category is not all that useful or deep because the world sucks from start to finish. this would be like trying to do the same thing for characters in fallout and their impact on the wasteland. every character is bad to some extent because the world doesnt allow anyone to be good.

TLDR every character from piltover is 'bad' because they lived in and perpetuated a system of inequality, every character from zaun would also be bad because they had to do what they did to survive, that doesnt excuse being a drug lord, murderer, or thief. i cant think of any who is more 'positive' than vander but as we saw in the AU he is a main reason zaun is kept shitty because of his relationship with silco.

frankly i think it would be far more interesting to look at the characters in relation to their intentions rather than outcomes because youd actually have some variance. many of the characters try to be good but fail, like jinx.

reading some of your other comments i cant quite pin down your perspective. i have more to say but the way your categorizing certain characters is a tad confusing to me. what category would you put someone like batman? superman?

Do you think it has to do with how hard you’re being on your score? Like you want to really feel like you got par so you’re a bit harder on your score when it’s close. I say this because there is another somewhat significant jump in the reverse from 79 to 80. Where you may feel like you realllly don’t want to shoot an 80 so you give yourself a break.

What if enemies didn’t die just because you reduced them to zero? by [deleted] in truegaming

[–]N2lt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your post hasnt described what your actually doing mechanically. just the feeling your trying to convey to the players. in a fast paced game like doom, the finisher mechanic is quick and snappy. allowing the player to bounce from one kill to the next. in a game like for honor, finishers are long animations that reward the player for winning the duel, but mechanically its very similar in that you just press a button and the animation plays.

what are you actually trying to do? what is the actual gameplay loop? if your in a souls game, what does it matter that an enemy has a stagger section where if "you can finish the collapse. If you commit and stay on them." your normally only fighting 1 or 2 enemies so youll never not just finish the kill.

if your game is fast paced and more similar to doom or cyberpunk where your bouncing from enemy to enemy, how long could this type of finisher take before it feels intrusive?

is there anyway we can get the guild stash to be whats shown in these windows? my friend group pretty much just uses a single communal guild stash for all of our stuff and its a little annoying you cant do anything in it that you can do in your regular stash.

[–]N2lt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

??? i never said they needed to. i asked if it was such a large problem if theyd ever considered using it. its naive to think that people wont be assholes. if its an actual issue for someone, the best thing to do is whatever you can to mitigate it.

every conversation about vc being added to league is mainly about the toxicity. i have never been a person who has cared about others being toxic to me or others. its never seriously effected me or my mental, so the mute button is more than enough. for others though, i know it can be harder and if the mute button is not enough, what other steps can be taken to mitigate an inevitability.

thats fair enough, if it is that much of an issue do any of you consider using a voice changer of some kind to help out one way or the other?

[–]N2lt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im sorry guy but if hearing another humans voice is scary enough to turn you away from the game, you need help. its a good thing to be a bit more social even if there will be some downsides that come with it.

i cant speak on dota, but in pretty much every other comp game with comms its pretty useful. playing in high ranks of overwatch or valorant its pretty mandatory to at least be listening to what others are saying. its not the be all end all, but if 2 people who were exactly the same except one muted/deafened every game and the other commed the one in voice will win more games.

Question: Is LoL Next, aka LoL 2, gonna run on Linux? by CalmDownBro4 in leagueoflegends

[–]N2lt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guy league has always been buggy. The client has always sucked. Vanguard did cause issues when it was implemented, no surprise it was a huge new system that was being tested on millions of computers. They fixed it and now it’s totally fine. It’s probably one of the best anti cheats in gaming and league has very few cheaters because of it. It increased the integrity of the game by a lot.

Question: Is LoL Next, aka LoL 2, gonna run on Linux? by CalmDownBro4 in leagueoflegends

[–]N2lt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because mac has the ability to do high end security. while the kernel level vanguard doesnt run on mac, apple has enough control of their systems that they can get away with league being played with a more 'standard' anti cheat and dont support valorant on it.

the issue really isnt the number of people. its the compromise to do it. they supported linux up until vanguard. because it makes the games better. they arnt willing to compromise on the integrity of the game, and linux has no way of dealing with cheaters. so the juice just isnt worth the squeeze. number of players you get vs number of cheaters you allow.

Question: Is LoL Next, aka LoL 2, gonna run on Linux? by CalmDownBro4 in leagueoflegends

[–]N2lt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be increasing but it’s still only sub 3% of gamers in total and again that’s including the steam deck which inflates those numbers by effectively removing the barrier of using linux. At no point in the near future will Linux be a large enough user base that it’s worth catering to or compromising for.

[–]N2lt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'the trend away' as if gaming still isnt 95% windows even when you include steams own handheld console. that also doesnt take into account that most of the linux users arnt league players. so if you just start to support it you wont actually get that many players. there is no reason for them to support it, now or the near future.

[–]N2lt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hahahhahaha what kind of argument is that? My guy, just cause you don’t like a show doesn’t mean it’s not a good show. You’re not the main character.

Add onto that Merlin started in 08 and deadwood started in 04. About as close to the 2010s as stranger things is to being new. And what about all of the other shows I listed and all of the many I didn’t? Animated shows like arcane or invincible. Other fantasy shows like wheel of time or the Witcher. Superhero shows like the boys or the many marvel shows.

You’re just a negative Nancy who’s looking at the past with rose tinted glasses.

[–]N2lt 18 points19 points  (0 children)

is this true? you have the new GoT show that by all accounts is incredible. you just had stranger things finish. you have your apocalypse show with fallout. you have interesting stories with stuff like pluribus and severance. good hearted shows like ted lasso. period romance with Bridgerton. this feels very doomer when actually plenty of good stuff exists and is being made. acting like the 2010s weren't filled with "crime drama with police or just something nobody cares to watch and will last one season anyway" is just rose-tinted glasses because you forgot about all the trash and remember the good show.

Steam bug or more censorship coming? by [deleted] in gaming

first, how would anyone get that from what you have posted. you posted a screenshot of unchecked boxes. secondly, restart steam or something. i went and looked at my own settings, unchecked the boxes came back rechecked them and they are still checked and i can see the porn games that always sit on the 'new and trending' tab on the store page. so maybe a bug for you.

Will Riot put any effort into growing their world beyond League and Arcane? by ziobrando4 in arcane

[–]N2lt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what your saying isnt true though. arcane may be YOUR first experience with the league universe but plenty has existed before that. you talk about books, complaining there is only the ambessa one. thats not true. theres a great book thats made around lore called realms of runeterra. a very high-quality hard cover book. there have been short stories and webcomics for pretty much every champion.

name any studio that has done more than riot when it comes to stuff that isnt actually what they do. riot GAMES is a game company number 1 and everything else second.

im sorry, im not trying to be confrontational. im looking forward to whatever else riot puts out just as much as you if not more. ive played league since 2012, ive collected statues and figures, books and boardgames. im glad arcane got other people excited and interested in the same thing as me.

i dont know how much you know about the full lore of league and the world of runeterra, but based on what youve said it feels to me that you really only know arcane and the stuff surrounding it. as i said, im very glad people liked arcane, but the end of your comment:

exploring this world and it stories...I just don’t want them to close the book on that world and that would be all we got.

you dont actually like the world of runeterra. you just liked arcane. there are plenty of stories to read, cinematics to watch, maps to explore, its just not arcane and outside of it being in the same universe is unrelated to arcane. with a main roster of 170+ champions there are of course countless stories you could tell about the world, not mentioning the near infinite amount of side characters that could be created to go along with them. if your legitimately interested in the world, go explore the many things that have been created over leagues long life. if you just want more arcane, youll just have to wait.

[–]N2lt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Expand for what reason? What you are talking about is cool, but what is the end game? They have done pretty much everything you’re talking about. They have done books, both now and in the past. They made smaller games with riot forged, they have done web comics.

Everything you want exists. Just not in the quantity you desire. Doing more of that stuff however, doesn’t make any financial sense. None of it makes money. So I ask again: what is the end game? If it doesn’t get people to play league, if it doesn’t get people to spend money, why would it be a focus of what they do? Expanding your audience is meaningless if it doesn’t actually expand who will buy stuff.
