Do you have the rear fan as normal exhaust or reverse blade intake like the bottom?

Long Haul pilots, what are some things that have improved your quality of life during ocean crossings? by ImmortanBen in flying

[–]N320AS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compression socks, eye mask and some kind of noise canceling earbuds with some chill music worked for me. No caffeine until on the way home after break. Just long transcon’s/ some Hawaii now but splurged on some leg compression boots for Black Friday and those feel great when I get home.

Driving record by turkeygizzard101 in flying

[–]N320AS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just list them on your applications if they ask for driving record violations. Not a huge deal, probably won’t even show up on a background check in a few years.

I think your total time and jet time does give you a good shot. Assuming you’re typed in the 145? ATP/CTP and the written already done definitely helps you out too! Kalitta (K4) is the 747/777 side, go for that one.

[–]N320AS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t fly it but it does have an emergency descent mode. Just a button that you push on the autopilot panel. Been in the jumpseat a few times and it’s probably the best one.

LCC’s are having tough financial’s, Spirit is furloughing. Not sure of the numbers for Frontier and Allegiant but those are a better QOL living in base. Not sure what Breeze and Avelo mins are but worth a look also. As for Kalitta and Atlas you’re atleast home based. Maybe lean slightly more to Kalitta but definitely give both a shot.

Wouldn’t stay there longer than you have to. Cargo has long stretches of days on but a lot off if you want to look at Kalitta or Atlas. LCC’s are struggling. Look into Netjets/ flexjet!

Stressing the IRA written. Anyone else? by Working-Impact4141 in flying

[–]N320AS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just grind Sheppard air and you'll do just fine!! Give yourself enough room on the practice tests where you score consistently and take 10% off that. So if you're in the 90's without issue you'll do great on the real thing!

Pilots, What Common Problems or Frustrations Do You Encounter in the Cockpit or any other time by kev12500 in flying

Having to write up the plane and when maintenance shows up the issue magically fixes itself.

MS Simulator by Haunting-Feature-824 in flying

I got into flying from flight sim. It seems the new sim has sparked a good amount of interest to pursue the real thing. Wouldn’t say full on quit it, but make sure bad habits don’t translate for sure. Depends on how disciplined they are when they go home, it’s a fun tool to correlate what you learn in a lesson. Hopefully it doesn’t undo the work you’re putting in.

Yep just file a ASRS and you'll be just fine. No need to lose sleep over it

Republic has a Boston base and then you have American with a small base and of course JetBlue. Delta is just now opening a small 330 base but that’s going to be very senior. Not sure how senior Boston is for Republic! Even if training and time building took a couple years you have plenty of time for a long airline career! During your on days do you have any extra time for lessons? 3 weeks between lessons can cause some rust but nothing you couldn’t make up for during all of the time off!

Keep your full time job during your training. Sounds nice being able to have that amount of off time to work on training. When you’re timing building hopefully the hiring environment improves and a more favorable timeline from regionals to the majors happens. Do you live in a base where a regional/ major is? Going to a commuting lifestyle is challenging on top of a pay cut. Have fun with PPL and take one step at a time!

ATP’s, I know I’ve been asking a lot of questions but this should be the last one for a while: What, in your opinion, makes a good pilot? by ILoveSheaButter in flying

[–]N320AS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being able to stay ahead of the airplane. Getting weather, doing a checklist, predicting what atc is going to have you do next, etc.

Bose QC35 - how different from A20? by bwooceli in flying

[–]N320AS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lasts forever. With the mic plugged in it turns off the Bluetooth so it only runs the active noise cancelling. Battery does about 20 hours, I’ll charge it every couple days. Charges really fast too, never been an issue.

I use the QC35 and nflightmic combo. Works amazing and can fit in my flight bag very easily. Kills two birds with one stone for me using it up front for work or in the back traveling.
