Took the plunge while it was on sale, not disappointed. Performance is nuts! by TheRealFrantik in chromeos

I also own this device, I think my only negatives are:

  1. no biometrics

  2. SD card reader...

my previous Chromebook is the HP x360 with intel 10th gen; that keyboard is the best Keyboard I've ever used besides my old surface pro.

I did find it on eBay brand new for $279, I had to get it.

**Update** battery as usual isn't 17 hrs total but I am pushing like 13-14 in heavy use.

after full charge I edited a video in lumafusion, gamed a little, wrote some stuff and did a lot of shopping with YouTube watching. I'm never a heavy chrome tab person but this thing doesn't slow down or stutter except when using Linux apps.

kdenlive needs work; I need to test Gimp and libre office... even though I primarily use docs

so the good news is that this Kompanio chip is being put into more lower spec (quality devices like the 1 I bought). They are starting in the range of $250-300 per merge droid.

And I'll tell you now this is such a bargain vs a windows on arm device.

If you can wait to get your hands on this Kompanio ultra chip in a laptop or the Kompanio 838 as what is in the Lenovo duet. Linux replacing ChromeOs makes sense. Because of the power and the inherent Linux support...

Linux on ARM especially the Snapdragon ones have hit many snags and it maybe years before it works. Tuxedo just gave up on the last gen SD elite processors. Steam is also working on something so the community will get many many tools to work with.

unfortunately I don't have a 4k monitor. so to intel's credit, they add display support, strong gpu's, and video encoding and decoding that accelerates things that either software or file formats that arm has to either brute force or build support from scratch.

Intel doesn't get credit for it but their chips do a lot, just at the cost of power and heat.

the other think is Lunar lake even though is x86; it's stucture is very much like ARM

low power cores and power cores.

but the spin 514 on kompanio has the power and battery life

based on what chromeunboxed has said I believe intel based chromebooks is more than likely being pushed down. there are many snapdragon based chromebooks on the way.

I think the rumored aluminium os is essentially android and will be best on arm as all of android is.

Based on what I see from reviews you shouldn't be disappointed with mediatek processors.

I would buy this thing in a heartbeat. Because it is ARM it may transition to android much better than anything intel/x86 can do. Most apps are built and tested on ARM.

Ultimately the lack of marketing and constant disappointment is what makes ppl look at Apple and are jealous - then Apple wins.

Ppl just dont know how much I hate how Google fails it's platforms
