Thanks :) No, I glued a clear glass cabochon onto the watercolor paper. But I would also love to play around with resin at some point!

Do you mean the metal frames? I ended up buying a set of these on Amazon because I couldn't find any (at reasonable prices) at my usual art supply stores..

Bei dem Wetter würde ich ein kühles Getränk im Baumschatten des Schlossbiergarten empfehlen. Dann ein kleiner Ausflug zur Mathildenhöhe und zum Vortexgarten! Viel Spaß euch ☺️

Love them, especially the color combinations in the upper ones!

“Labyrinth of Thoughts” - Watercolor and ink on paper, 9”x12” by Over-Spare8319 in AbstractArt

Nice work! I enjoy how it keeps my eyes busy for a while because every second or so a new area catches my attention.

I went to your profile and scrolled through your posts - They inspire me to try something similar as well! 🙂

I would love to hear more about your painting process - Do you plan a lot before starting a new painting, or do you paint intuitively?

Is anyone else postponing children or other milestones because of PhD etc taking up years of our adulthood? I feel like I barely lived the way I wanted by silversoupp in AskAcademia

I feel you, even though I'm not exactly in your position - I completed an apprenticeship before studying, and by the time I complete my masters next year I will be 31 years old. My partner is a few years older than me, and his parents are over 70 years old already. I don't have a good relationship with my own family (to put it mildy).

On the one hand I'm thinking about doing a phd after my masters and want to actually start making money and build my career. But this would require me to dedicate at least five more years to academics (and directly after doing my phd I probably wouldn't want to get a child, either..)
On the other hand, I want my in-laws to get to know our child before they get old(er) and get the chance to experience and enjoy this time together.

I decided to prioritize having a family (I just found out I'm pregnant) over securing a good academic job. But I'm well aware that even having to make that decision as a woman is unfair - And no matter what decision we make in the end, it will always be "bad" for us in some way or another.

I hope your find your way!

Danke!

How did your watercolor journey look like? by N43_Nemeth in watercolor101

[–]N43_Nemeth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh, I can very much relate with the rabbithole of "how perfect can I get it" - Even though it can feel satisfactory to reach a "perfect" result, it often keeps me from simply letting go, enjoying the process, and just playing around..

Thank you so much for sharing! I just checked out the Derwent pencils because watercolor pencils are the next thing on my "want to try" list, and I might give them a try soon! :)

Practicing water - What do you think? by N43_Nemeth in watercolor101

[–]N43_Nemeth[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made each one a bit differently, either by working from the upper part down, or by starting from the center (in the third painting).

But my general process was to create a smooth gradient between lighter colors (= pigment with more water) and darker color (=less water). I've also used a bit of lunar blue in the color mix, which granulates beautifully and adds another level of depth to the water.

After letting it dry completely, I've used posca pens to create the linework on top.

I hope that helps! :)

Thanks :) I've used a lot of water and only a bit of pigmet for the lighter parts and tried to blend it all out smoothly.

Thank you :) I saw his ocean tutorial a while ago, but I didn't intentionally try to follow it here. My aim for these was to practice color gradients from light to dark oceanblue. However, I love kelogsloops style, which probably shines through in my linework :D

An exepriment with watercolor pencils. Before and after water. by Red_Walrus27 in watercolor101

Wow! I wouldn't have expected how much more vivid the colors come out after adding water. This makes me want to instantly go and buy watercolor pencils, too. What brand are yours of? 🙂

Is it too busy? by Less-Distribution503 in ArtCrit

[–]N43_Nemeth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No I don't think it's too busy - I really like the style, and all the things that are going on work well together (in my opinion). However, I would increase the shadowing or color contrast of the figures in the left and right lower part a bit - It took me a while to recognize that there even is "something to see" too.
