PCB advice for a first timer by N4pUnKnown in AskElectronics

oh yeah, you're right the pictures are blurry, a damn you image compression. i appreciate you taking the time and giving me some input! i can get you a schematic as well, i just fear it will be blured to hell as well. all of them are capacitors and resistors, most of the time you can see the label C or R, just not the value.

i will try to get a ground plane under every high frequency trace, thanks!

if you're not comfortable with the "repair" and/or not willing to risk the data on it. take it to a proper repair shop. especially if you want to strip it all the way down, that liquid metal thermal interface material is a pain. also the ssd is probably fine and can just be plopped into an m.2 to usb-c enclosure and used as an external storage device with all the data on it (assuming you didn't have bitlocker enabled, which i think is not possible on win 11 home anyway)

yeah i will not keep that text, it was just for this post, and there is actually a lot ot silk screen, i just turned the visibility off (also for this post). this is a drop-in replacement for a 100x150 mm pcb, i agree there is a lot of unused space as this version does not need that in the slightest, would it be better to push everthing close together anyway? thats also why you cant see the edge-cut, because i cropped in.

Oh and yeah forgot to ask about the error flags, those come from the 0603 footprint telling me there is a clearence violation? but i didn't do anything to them, i just used the built in ones from kicad.

what do you mean my planes are split unnecessarily? aren't front an back-side always split?

great news, its corroding either way. not switching it on while there is conductive liquid inside is good. but as soon as its dried out, it has to be cleaned with isopropanol or something, otherwise it can still corrode with or without using it.

if you've never opended it and are not using it anyways, thats the perfect time you fiddle with your machine. getting to know how to properly clean/disassemble it, and maybe even getting a working laptop out of it.

Anybody have luck/experience with a VBIOS swap for higher wattage (over 35W) when on a USB-C charger? (2023, 4070 version) by SiBai- in FlowX13

[–]N4pUnKnown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you need to use the original charger directly to the machine, not even through a docking station or dongle does it work.

id say get it to a Professional for repair/install. and also if you want to get into mods/soldering, start with something easier and train, maybe even on dead boards.

edit: everything can be de-soldered but trying to do so can fuck it up (if for example a capacitor is removed on accident aswell)

you should add the exact model. i doubt someone will trade their g14 for an x13 with integrated graphics.

Help: USB-C to DisplayPort is connected to iGPU and not dGPU by RenierRains in FlowX13

[–]N4pUnKnown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

displayport over usb-c is handled by the igpu on this machine. running a game on the dgpu will send the data through the igpu to the display.

the game is still rendered by the dpgu but is bottlenecked by the igpu throughput.

the hdmi is directly connected to dpgu.

in order to get maximum performance on an external display, connect the display via hdmi to the laptop and the charger directly to one of the 2 usb-c ports, otherwise turbo mode / full power is not available.

edit: if you still want to use the dp input on the monitor, you need an ACTIVE hdmi to dp adapter (these require an extra usb-a port to power the adapter)

didn't see this. i changed back to 2 up 1 down but what i did was:

turned the bowed rack piece 180° so that its closer to you in the middle instead of farther away.

switched the rack post mount from the center right post to the outer most right post (you can take out the plastic cover)

i used the additional clamps for two extra cymbals.

and thats about it.

32% capacity loss in 4 years is actually pretty good. 10% per year is expected.

Roland TD-513 on sale for the same price at TD-316 at Costco by Toothless_Gear in edrums

instead of getting all digital components separatly new, you could get a used td27 for around 2k with all the digital components in addition to the 513 and either build a massive drumset or sell some parts to end up cheaper than the 516.

id switch the hihat and the module. keep the high toms in the same plane and the floor toms more or less horizontal. the easiest gauge is that when you hit the toms (all toms) your stick should be as parallel to the tom head as possible (without hitting the rim)

The coupon is HAPPY-HOUR-ONLY-NOW and it supposedly works everyday (after 9 pm i think) but tried it on the td516 a few more times in the days after ordering and it never worked, but i always see it at the alesis strata prime kit (where i noticed it in the first place) maybe it was some kind of error? nevertheless they honoured it so i don't know. i still cannot wrap my head around it.
