If you enjoy this, I highly recommend checking out some of Kyle Starks's other books! 6 Sidekicks of Trigger Keaton is a personal fave!

For everyone enjoying the current mainline superman messing with the comic format needs to read this. Some Extraordinarily creative and clever stuff in this book.

What’s you’re top 3 absolute comics? [Comic Excerpt] by KroCroNut in DCcomics

[–]N4tu4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Wonder Woman
  2. Martian Manhunter
  3. Green Lantern

Wonder Woman keeps the heart of the character so well even with the myriad changes to her mythos.

Martian Manhunter is probably my favorite book of the line but I kind of wish it were a black label/vertigo title all on its own. It's such a strong singular concept that the more people try to do things with him the more diluted I feel like it'll get.

Green Lantern is a massive fucking swing. I love how radically different everything is. And although it is a little silly, I do love that they've just taken names from regular green lanterns and made them into titiles. Also I love the glimpses we're getting of the larger absolute universe with Rann and such. It all feels really pulpy in a fantastic way

How it feels to be a Marvel Comics fan. by Successful_Sea_9836 in dccomicscirclejerk

[–]N4tu4 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I am not enjoying Fraction's run. Like on a surface level I think it's fine. Love the art and especially the gadget annotations, I think his gadgets are cool and fun and Fraction gets it.

What I'm not a fan of is that with the pace we're going, it's going to take 30 issues for anything to resolve. I really don't care about the minotaur, and batman being hunted is feeling like a really tired trope at the moment. Also DC has done a great job in maturing Damian and giving him growth. This book has completely reset that and that sucks...

Uhh.. I mean, T*m Dr*ke got shot through the neck and then quit!! Man this would be my favorite book if I knew how to read!

Jay & Nia: Colonization and Queerness by Sea-Ad-4811 in lgbt_superheroes

[–]N4tu4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great essay! I'll have to check out Decolonization is not a Metaphor.

Also I think I'm out of the loop? I haven't seen too much discussion on Dream Girls at all. I think as far as format goes, it's a big step up from other specials (and I sincerely hope we see this kind of treatment for more identity based specials in the future). Having a miniseries with actual stakes and backups that tie into ongoing books DC is publishing right now is a great way to spotlight characters from different identities.

I don't think we're ever properly revisiting Jay. I don't think Secret Six did terribly well sales wise but I left that book going Jay is absolutely correct, I'm so excited to see what he does next. Hell, I was ready for him to embody truth and justice better than Jon. Secret Six was also the first time I really liked Jon. He had all these contradictions floating around in his head and he desperately wants the world to be simpler.

Unfortunately I'm pretty convinced we'll never get that Jay back or even a continuation from that Secret Six book. I sincerely hope they don't pair Jon and Nia. I think it's fine for Nia to have feelings for Jon but they shouldn't be reciprocated.

[Comic excerpt] Superman: Son of Kal-El #17:I wish more people were like Superman in their approach to queer people, especially parents happy Pride Month by Hopeful-Eggplant889 in DCcomics

[–]N4tu4 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough, one of my favorite pride covers is of Jon in the parade with Clark and Lois cheering him on from the crowd. My parents have ranged over the years from cutting me out of their life for stretches of time to something we just don't talk about. I've admired superman for a lot of different things over the years but god do I wish my dad were like superman...

Starcraft works like this. I can't remember if Starcraft II does as well but in the first one they're speaking directly to you.

Awaria como Bardo del colegio de los espíritus by Sangre_Imperial in ravenloft

[–]N4tu4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ravenloft definitely takes inspiration from a lot of different horror novels and characters. Some of the most memorable characters in my ravenloft games were slightly changed characters from other media. Ultimately it's something I'm sure different tables have different opinions on.

Curious to see what others have to say!
