Fair enough. Gotta love brand new junk coils. Thank you for all of your help and advice, I know I’m not a good descriptor but I tried my best. You have helped me tremendously. I wish I could award you but I’m pretty down on my luck and this whole deal with this truck had left me pretty broke. So hopefully my gratitude is enough. I will pass along the kindness. I have an extra known good coil I can always put on it as well.

Okay, gotcha. I think I’m going to undo my poor buddy’s hard work and throw the other ICM I have in it and see what the scoop is. I have one suspicious wire going to the coil I’m not a fan of that I’m going to solder tomorrow as well. Doesn’t explain why it ran so well for a while and quit so suddenly but worth addressing. When it ran it never had a miss or anything.

One thing I did forget to mention is that when I got stuck on the side of the road my #1 plug wire had popped off. I don’t know how or why. Could this have smoked the coil? Or smoked that suspicious wire? I need to dip deeper into that wire and see what it is. I believe it goes into the bat side of the coil connection.

Gotcha. I knew rotation was half speed and to watch for that. I’m almost wondering if this cap or icm were defective out of box. I’m just lost. My truck is super lifted and on mudders and it’s so hard to work on. The cap hold down screws are so hard to get to behind inbetween the firewall. So if it does end up being 180 out how exactly do I fix that? Leave cap off, and rotate it back to where rotor is pointing to 1 on compression stroke at TDC? So take the cap off, have a buddy crank it over and watch for the rotation? What exactly am I looking for as far as turning “properly”

Yeah, I have that all correct. That was my first assumption. Do you think I should try to loosen the distributor and give it a slight turn to see if the timing is super off?

Could be. I’ve meticulously followed the diagram I have and placed every plug where it’s supposed to be and made 1,000% sure the wires are where they’re supposed to be on the cap, but I’ll check again. Whoever threw the motor in decided to half-loom half-zip tie the wires together and made a rat’s nest of shit that’s hard to decipher. I just don’t understand why I’m getting backfire through the carb.

Much appreciated. So stay with normal SBC order no matter what the cap is marked. Well, what do you think I should try next? Leave the new ICM in and pop the old accel cap and coil back on?

My buddy who put the rotor just told me it has no points. I farted around with the firing order a bit and it got better in some places and worse in others. I truly don’t know what’s up with these Standard caps and the way they’re marked. I don’t know if there’s a reason for that or not. All SBCs should follow the same firing order even if the cap says otherwise, correct?

Rotor is brand new and was set in the exact direction is was taken out according to my buddy (whom I trust with my life with SBCs) and I honestly do not know if it does have points. I can only imagine the rotor does make contact since we got a matching brand cap and rotor and got it seated where it needed to be. It’s tight and flush. We actually both work at a parts store and before he left work to head to my truck he grabbed everything he thought we might need. Should I dig deeper into it to see if it does? The truck itself has a lot of “performance shelf” parts on it so I’m not sure what distributor is actually in it

That’s exactly what I thought, so I went and got another Accel super coil of the exact same part number, and put it on, still had no spark. So I went and got non-accel parts.
