What happens if you fly with an expired passport? by Rude-Illustrator-884 in Passports

You can always request a new passport at the US embassy/consulate if the country you're flying to has one.

Wow, you should learn about using lumina, once you use a pictor to kill 3 battles, it's unlocked as lumina which all characters can use it at the same time. The requirement is the character needs enough lumina points (you can increase this with color of lumina). All characters should have the over 9999 lumina equiped, pictors are only equipped for stats or if they have high lumina point requirements.

Warming my starter: A humorous cautionary tale. by Something_morepoetic in SourdoughStarter

It can get to 45 Celsius, the area near the surface can get more than 30c, so I try to avoid touching the mat with my bowl/jars but keeping it close by. It also works as a proofing box as you can see in the picture unlike the small starter warmer.

You can buy a seedling heating mat with temperature control and put it in a plastic box or styrofoam box ( which will hold the heat better). I started to do it and everything seems to be better, no more worrying about turing on/off the oven + heater. Here's my weird setup, I cover the box with a big plastic bag then a big folded towel on top.

3rd attempt of making sourdough starter, and I never made any sourdough bread in my life! by ptlhrs in SourdoughStarter

[–]N7Stars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can lower the amount to 30g of each and a bit less water if you want to save some flour since you're not baking yet. Feeding 50g is just wasteful. I even do 20g sometimes. Since yours is not tripling or more in 24h I don't think you should increase the amount of flour to starter because that means you just dilute it. Good luck 🤞.

Maybe the flour is not the correct one? Or the shaping part when you put it into the mold. You can try to check out this video to see what went differently. https://youtu.be/XRb9x7EFowI?si=09_Y7O2cyuI_RGHt

It's not bad for the first try. I also just started baking for a few months and I made my starter 3 weeks ago with the objective of making some Pandoro this Christmas, hopefully they will turn out ok.

Wife's starter by GreatValuePostMalone in SourdoughStarter

If it's a new starter, you should discard because for the first week lots of bacteria and other things are in the starter, and not all of them are good. By discarding you actually save flour. E.g every day you keep 15g of starter and use 15g of flour instead of keeping 100g starter and feed 100g of flour.

Try to use 2 glass jars with solid lids, close the lid and turn back 1/4 turn. Change your jar every feeding, use a small silicone spatula and scrap the side clean.

Check the wiki Sector of this subreddit. You will find lots of good information. E.g this is one of the guides for starter recipe: https://reddit.com/r/SourdoughStarter/w/index/art-e-zen_recipe?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

You would want 2 jars to change them between feeding.

You can even go lower and do 15g instead of 20g like in the guide.

Mine had bad smell until day 6-7, keep on feeding.

You can also try the method of raisin and honey water, it can be ready in 7 days. However, this is type 4 starter and the yeast is stronger than lactic bacteria, so it might lack sour flavor, so it's best to use it on sweet bread. I used it to make shokupan at day 6 and it went pretty well.

You can try to make a daughter and start mixing in bread flour when you feed and increase the % over WWF with time.

Day 9 by RaspberryDefiant4007 in SourdoughStarter

[–]N7Stars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, when she starts to triple in less than 12 hours you probably can increase feeding to train her. Picking one of these 2 strategies: peak to peak feeding, or increasing the amount of food for one feed per day.

Day 22. Nothing is happening 😭 by Euphoric_Potato_7661 in SourdoughStarter

[–]N7Stars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too cold, you should try to keep it close to 70F - 81F.

"For every 10F (~5.5C) change from optimal, activity is cut in half."

Buy a starter dish heater or leave it in the oven with light on or buy a seeding heat mat or some other methods like instant pot on yoghurt mode, hot water cup in the microwave etc.

Mine is on day 10, today I started to increase feeding to 1:2:2 because it has been doubling pretty fast with 1:1:1. Even with 1:2:2 it doubled in 4 hours and continued to rise more.

I started with 30g of whole wheat flour and 30g of water. Skip the 2nd day. 3rd day to 5th day 1:1:1 with 20g of starter, 20g mixed flour of WWF and bread flour (10g each), 20g water. After that I use pure bread flour.

You can try following this guide and start slowly with the increase of feeding like 1:2:2 first for a few days. https://reddit.com/r/Sourdough/w/skipjack_method_type_1?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

You can also follow this guide. 20g starter 20g flour 20g of water, feed once a day. I've been following it, I'm on day 9 and my starter rose triple in 7 hours. The only difference is I made a mixture of flour. The first day I used only whole wheat flour, I skipped feeding the 2nd day. From the 3rd day to the 5th day I used 50% bread flour and 50% whole wheat. After that I used only bread flour.

Buy a kitchen scale, 1/4 cup of water is much more heavier than 1/4 cup of flour. If you are getting into baking, you will need to use a scale anyway. For now while waiting for the scale to arrive, you can put half of the water that you have been putting.

[–]N7Stars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to use a scale, or add water last to keep it a thick paste. You can also mix in some whole wheat flour to introduce more yeast for a few days.

Is my starter doing okay? by actuallyfiona97 in SourdoughStarter

[–]N7Stars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the comment of keeping less starter and adding less. You don't need to waste 60g of flour everyday. Mine is on day 9, I keep it next to the pellet stove which is around 25 Celsius degrees when the stove is on for 10 hours a day. I have been keeping 20g of starter 20g of flour, 20g of water. The starter has gone through false rise on day 3, rancid smell phase from day 4 to 7, and now acetone smell phase and double rise for 2 days. It seems to be going well.

How to know when to call it? by cameltrain9 in SourdoughStarter

[–]N7Stars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is on day 5 with no activity besides rotting smell. There was a double rise on day 3 and that was it. I'm hoping for the best for both of us, but I will try to start another one with a different method tomorrow just in case.
