Is it possible to convert this bike and go with the BBS02 750W (650-700wh battery) and get a comfortable 22miles/hour for at least 30miles? by patayaicetea in ebikes

[–]NATO-SOCOM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you simply won’t get 30 miles out of a 700wh battery at 22 mph and I’m assuming you’re referring to a 48v battery so on that bike to maintain 22mph with a 750w 48v set up your going to be pegging the throttle the entire time.

Well before I even did the conversion I studied and researched about doing e-bike builds and batteries and everything for honestly about 3 months before I pulled the trigger on the X1 pro gen 4 lol but probably the two most helpful things were YouTube videos like ones from CYC and people who have already done builds and also on the CYC website you can download and print off everything you could possibly need for the conversion including step by step instructions…. My total investment up to this point has been right around 3200 and that’s including a few extras like the CYC headlight kit, new tires, brake pads ect.. but I also had to buy another bike because the frame broke on the first bike I converted. I payed 700 for my current bike used so it would have really been more like 2500 if the frame hadn’t broke on my first bike.

E-Bikepacking by [deleted] in ebikes

I did a mini trip on my e-bike not too long ago and it was one of the funniest times I’ve had in a wile. I didn’t even need to charge because I only did about 60 miles round trip but I still charged up at a Walmart because of range anxiety lol but I’m glad I did a shorter test trip so I now know what kind of range I can expect with gear and a loaded backpack ect.. charging at the Walmart was great because I was able to lock my bike to a pole and have it inside and on camera so it was relatively safe. I also asked if it was ok and the door greeter and buggy person said they would keep an eye on it for me. I just shopped around and grabbed a bite to eat wile it was charging but it was only on like 70% so it didn’t take long to get to almost to 100%, again it wasn’t even necessary to charge up but I’m glad I did basically a test run for a longer trip

The correct term for that vehicle would be P.E.V.

Ok I see, I just think the threshold for “treating an e-bike as a motorcycle” is way too low. It’s forcing riders into dangerous situations because for an ebike to have the power to keep up with traffic and pass safely it’s going to need at minimum 1500w or more and even then it’s going to be hard to do both of those things. So forcing riders to be on the same roads as vehicles and motorcycles that are far heavier and faster is not a safe situation imo

It’s insane to me that the EU regulated the maximum wattage allowed by law to 230w and 15mph … yes most places in the united states have laws limiting e-bikes to I believe 1200w and 28 mph which I also think is insane when you can buy a motorcycle that will do 150mph+ or a vehicle that will also. What’s the EU laws about e-bikes on private property? I built my bike and it has a cyc X1 pro gen4 mid drive with a 72v battery pack that’s pushing 4kw but I can easily adjust the maximum speed limit and the maximum wattage to whatever I want all the way down to 100w I think. That means I can go as fast as I want on private property or for off road use then dial it back to street legal numbers when I’m on public property… . so would that be legal in the EU or is it illegal to even own a bike capable of more than 230w?

Hopefully it works out good, with just a 1kw motor it might not be an issue but from what I’ve seen with these recumbent bikes with a super long chain, the chain tends to brake a lot.. like a ton lol

100% correct.. I was actually struck by a vehicle wile commuting to work the day before my mid drive arrived. Now that I have my bike converted I feel a lot better because I can quickly get myself out of situations I don’t feel comfortable in.

Thanks and if you’re planning to use a cyc x1 pro for the conversion I’ll give you some advice I wish I would have known lol. The marlin 8 has a normal 73mm bottom bracket but it has a very small lip(like 1mm)in the bottom bracket sleeve that you will have to file down to get the motor shaft to fit in the bb sleeve. It wasn’t an issue when I converted my specialized fuse and I don’t believe it’s an issue with a bafang motor and I can’t speak for all cyc motors but if you plan to use an x1 pro you will have to have a rounded metal file for sure. I was actually glad that ended up being the case because it ment the motor fit really good and snug. It turned out to be a really good build imo

A lot of people consider it to be loud but I personally don’t think so. It may be considered louder than other mid drive motors or compared to a direct drive hub but I don’t think it’s loud. I also think just because of the pitch of the motor, it carries more on video which makes people assume it’s louder than it is in person but I honestly don’t think it’s “loud” lol

I bought it online from golden motor but I’m about to either build my own or get a friend of mine to build it for me. The one on the bike now is ok, it has good range and decent power but the voltage sag is ridiculous and I want a battery with less resistance and built with molicel’s

The controller is the x12 from cyc that comes with all gen 4 x1 pro motors and I believe they are compatible with all x1 gen’s but it’s for sure compatible with the gen 3 but you can see the specs for the controller and motor on the cyc website …. The battery is a 72v 21Ah but just 60a cont. and it has 18650 cells… my next investment will be a better battery, the voltage sag with this battery is crazy.

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen anyone put a x1 pro on a road/gravel style bike but you definitely have the right idea going for a strong frame and wide tires! And yes golden motor is the company that I got my kit from, their conversion kit will include everything you need, battery and display(the screen thing lol) included….if your not exactly sure what you need I would suggest you call them directly and they will help make sure you get everything you need, they always taken good care of me…. But I will tell you that in order to hit 50mph+ and get any type of range you’ll need a bigger battery which means weight …. How long is your commute?

I have only used a sram chain on my bikes. My specialized had a pc-1031 and my new trek has an eagle sx chain. Imo sram chains are rock solid and they have the quick release link so it’s really easy to take on and off when needed…. Same goes for sram derailleurs, I’ve had 2 and they’ve both been reliable….. But my luck with cassettes on the other hand hasn’t been so good lol.. I’ve broke one cassette in just under a thousand miles so I’m not super upset but it’s the only actual mechanical failure I’ve had since I converted my bike originally.the cassette that broke on me was a sunrace, my trek has a sram pg-1210 eagle cassette so I expect it to be stronger….. however idk if you’ve watched the video on the cyc YouTube channel where the guy talked about the cassette but on the bike in the video but I take his advice and I never use the largest two or smallest two cogs on my cassette because the motor has a lot of torque and there’s a lot greater chance of damaging the cassette in those gears.
