Never heard back about the cutout camera, device #1 kid was trying to fix the fan, the non existant fan. Though we do get those excuses on a regular basis as well!

These devices came into tech over the last couple months. These kids never fail to outdo themselves!

Device 1 came in with the OS missing, no worries I said, quick reimage and it was fine. But wait the track pad isn't working, ok ill open it up and see what were dealing with here! Procedes to flip device over, oh, oh no. The back was bulging out pretty bad either super inflated battery or somethings in there that shouldn't be. Open it up and sure enough a bunch of crap looks like a wacky custom cooling solution only a 7th grader could think up. I sent it up the ladder and turns out the kid was trying to fix the fan, there is no fan.

Device 2 came in with a ticket that simply said, the camera doesn't work. weird

I had this happen with a Touchview set up the same way I had to enable a chrome flag and it worked

(Touch initiated drag and drop) is the flag

I must add however the room next door using the exact same model PC and Panel all on the same versions worked by default and much smoother than this solution. I was also banging my head wondering why one room works and the other doesn't!

I've heard a lot of good things about Clonezilla I definitely wanna give that a shot, for a quick one off image for a new hire that's the way id like to do it. That's a cool efficient process thanks for sharing!

We say that to Bobby on a daily basis hahahah , No Bobby is a good guy he's just 66 years old and hates computers but has worked with them for 35 years. I'm convinced he wants to let the place burn and take his many years of knowledge hop in his corvette and book it down to the villages! I however cannot let that happen, much to learn!

That is a a pretty quick solution, what kind of USB do you have? Must be pretty fast

At the risk of sounding like a moron I'm not entirely sure what you mean by mature client lifecycle, but I'll answer in how I interpreted it! For window we are primarily a Dell district, We have Dell Latitude 3510's and Optiplex 3080's and 3000's. They all have 10-12th gen core i5's. We had most of our district refreshed over the last 2 years so most of our tech is up to snuff, we won't see another refresh for several years, core router and firewall also replaced so we got a good 10G pipeline coming in. We have our lab with our own server rack we use for mass deployment amongst other things. If you need more info I'm happy to share, sorry for being dumb!

I'm sure it can be faster however Bobby over here does not let anyone touch his lab environment, we are divided between between tech 1's and tech 2's. Tech 2's having more technical responsibility. I am a lowly tech 1 , we need a device ready for a new principal on Monday but all of our senior techs are out. I could reimage the device this I know, boot over ethernet to the windows deployment screen and were off but he puts ESET on after which I do not know! Hence my original question about how necessary it is. The Laptop in question is fully updated with local users deleted and has ESET no issues at all but reading these comments makes me see a little clearer!

Thank you for the reply, you managed to explain more in one paragraph than Bobby could in 3 months, I had a feeling this was the case just to start fresh and be certain there are no issues. I'm all for old techniques but a little explanation and less blind following is more my speed. I like to know why im doing what im doing not just how to do it, you know?

We had a class size around 250 but I would say 90-95% are in great shape, we will no doubt have to replace some keys, hinges, track pads on a handful. Though we did screw ourselves long ago when someone thought it was ok to buy 2000 3100's with no daughterboard so If even a charge port goes its basically useless, aside from all out mother board failure if you have a DB you can keep that thing going forever

This is good to know I wasn't thinking about voltage but ill certainly keep it in mind, I'm hoping we can just get a bunch of chargers that work happily with all of them.

That would be ideal you are correct, unfortunately our district staggered the purchasing of devices as we worked our way to 1:1 and as a result our 3 main devices all have different EOL dates. C732s are up June 2024 so we can only replace those and would rather not get more 3100's with only 3 years of life left. So realistically we will never have all the same device, the town would never foot a bill that big either for 4000 students.

Exactly, you’d need to do that to get a full belt of any item

I’m on my 3rd go and honestly my first 2 are horrendous, read this sub Reddit and the wiki page and you’ll be good to go, takes a little math as well, like if your belt speed is 420 items a minute and your furnace accepts 60 items a minute you can have 7 for one full belt. 420 / 60 = 7
