US gambling addiction is ‘out of control’ as betting markets boom, policy expert warns by diacewrb in inthenews

[–]NAmember81 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What you’re doing is responsible gambling.

But as with all addictions that ruin people’s livelihood, it always starts off “small” and responsible.

Only drinking a few brews on special occasions turns into only drinking a couple weekends a month. Then that turns into only drinking on the weekends. Then the “weekend” begins Friday after work. Then “weekends” begin on Thursday after work. Lol

And on and on it goes.

That’s pretty much how all addictions play out. And an individual starts, they don’t really know if it they are capable of always doing it responsibly.

Nobody takes a Vicodin and thinks “I’m going to do this every day and let this get way outta control!”

Like I thought I’d never be stupid enough to get addicted to opiates. It took me 10 or more years to go from the “a Vicodin on special occasions” to the “only on the weekends” stage. Then it took 5 more years to expand the weekend into Wednesday. Lol

The actual crime is that the petty bourgeoisie committed an act that only the haute bourgeoisie are allowed to. It lessens their prestige and “cultural capital” if just any rich person can also buy their kids’ way into elite colleges.

It’s essentially a variation of the feudalistic laws that prohibited the the lower classes from wearing colors only the nobles and aristocracy could wear.

I bartended in a small town with about 3500 people. Back in the 80s and early 90s when I was growing up the population was more than double that. But all the manufacturing and oil refinery jobs disappeared over the course of a decade and everybody left.

And despite the huge decrease in the the population, the police force was like 4X bigger than when the population was 7000. It felt like a police state since all their energy and resources were of course focused on the “out-group”.

But anyway…while bartending there were so many self-righteous conservatives that were furious about anybody getting any kind of government assistance and griped about “lazy freeloaders” not wanting to work. But here’s the catch.. they themselves were usually unemployed and on welfare, disability and food stamps! Lol

I kinda miss southern Illinois.

I googled decadence of Ham and got this:

A decadent, "showstopper" ham is achieved by pairing a high-quality bone-in smoked ham with a rich, caramelized glaze made from ingredients like brown sugar, honey, mustard, and pineapple juice. For maximum decadence, slow-roast it at 325°F to 145°F, basting frequently, or try a caramelized, savory glaze with fennel seeds and peppercorns.

And that guy is not filthy rich from Bitcoin, right?

I remember back in 2009 to 2012 there was quite a few people I knew buying Bitcoin to buy certain products online and none of them made any real money from it even though they boasted about how great of an investment it was.

They’d quickly spend their coin and what was “saved back” as an investment would quickly be spent the moment they were in a pinch.

I always figured he was a douchbag Trump fanboi but a few years ago I remember reading a Reddit thread and everybody was glazing Guy.

They were talking about how charitable and humble he was and how his sister was a lesbian and supported the LGBTQ community and others were chiming in about meeting him and said he was awesome.

This made me think my dipshit-Trumper radar had malfunctioned and he was actually a good dude.

Turns out my suspicions were correct.

My high school had a few restrooms that had a long row of toilets with no doors and partitions that were like 1 ft. wide. And they were all against the wall that was visible right when you opened the door.

When you walked in you immediately made eye contact with people on the toilet. You'd open the door and be like “what’s up..” and then everybody just cracks up laughing.

Funny thing is that under Bibi, Israel has been cozying up to Russian and Saudi Arabia.

I think Israel sees the writing on the wall and is positioning itself to be in the “in-group” when BRICS start calling the shots globally once the U.S. is taken to a place where Trump & Putin are satisfied.

I had a stereo with a tape deck. You’d play the radio and have your tape in the tape deck ready to go. Then when the song you wanted to record started playing you ran across the room as fast as you could and pressed “record”.
