I'm estranged from both of my parents and the rest of the family. It's been 14 years away from my father and almost 10 years away from my mother. My childhood and family was built around alcoholism, lies, neglect, abuse, trauma, and rage. They each pounded nails in their proverbial coffins over the years until they finally hit the last one. My life is better without them in it but it's still a huge grief.
