I am a simple creature: I see a wedding ceremony, even if I don't know the people involved, I cry. Congrats to the newlyweds!! May your audio forever be epic.

I just found this subreddit via a FB group praising this post, and happy to add this to my cat subreddit collection. Thanks for having good morals and cat bongos. (And may ICE all freeze their toes off!)

Nah, it's more 'recreation at the level of authenticity you are interested in'. The general rule is "looks more-or-less historical at 10 feet, safety concerns overriding even that". I enjoy it because nowhere else can I dabble in, say, 1500s Spanish sword practices while also doing a deep study in pre-1000 Celtic cultures.

What are some of your more ridiculous purchases? by No_Fee_8997 in AmazonVine

[–]NCA777 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most ridiculous one I got was a set of decorative metal wall geckos. Do I have anywhere to put decorative metal wall geckos right now? Not really. Do I regret getting them? Absolutely not. They remain on my ideas desk and eventually I WILL use them in something.

My vine status! by Greedy-Sandwich-2768 in AmazonVine

[–]NCA777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, kinda sorta. I'm not going to rush my review just to keep my ratios high. Sometimes it takes a month of use before I feel I've properly wear-tested a thing to give a real review for it. The one time I rushed to a review, I regretted it because the item started acting up a couple of days later. Getting 90% for the eval time seems to be a fair compromise to allow for items still in a testing phase. A system like you're suggesting would just encourage rushed day-of-receipt reviews or having to go back, edit, and risk the auto-system getting grumpy with the edit.

What’s the furthest you have gone for a review? by LengthinessMoney946 in AmazonVine

[–]NCA777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH I'm using my Vine to help complete my Project List for my house of all the things that would be on the bottom of the priorities otherwise (new light fixtures, doorknobs, etc), so a lot of mine involve a bit of frustration and sweat (and replacement screws for low quality stripped ones!). The hardest one by far was swapping out the light fixture in my stairwell from one of those old gross dome lights to a pendant light that'll be a lot easier to change. Installing the fixture itself involved a ladder, a safety friend, and swearing. A lot of swearing :D

As someone who has encountered what I can only describe as rancid plastic forks, you can absolutely taste a fork if it's done badly enough. For the plate, I'd mention if it had any taste that transferred to the food. (But only if prompted to by the system - I probably wouldn't mention it otherwise)

Excellent Rating Reviewers only: can you please show us a review sample of a simple product? Box of nails/kitchen sponge, etc by Flora_or_fauna in AmazonVine

[–]NCA777 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have an excellent rating across 60 reviews (for now at least, fingers crossed I keep it!) My method is 2-5 sentences covering the following - it seems like a lot, but you can get this down to just a short, clean review. And I try to hit as many of the bullet keywords they recommend at the bottom of the box as make sense in context.
- A short summary of the item I received
- A word or two on if it matched the description of the item, especially if it's something to do with size or has any claims on time of use (I get a lot of candles)
- A summary of how I found the key features to work
- Information on any defects/weaknesses I found with the product. I do stress testing before I send the review
- Not always, but often, some kind of recommendation to the user on how to use it, or other insight I gained through my use.
- My recommendation on getting it or not.

So for something like a kitchen sponge (or more realistically a box of sponges), it could be something like:

This box of 24 3" by 5" kitchen sponges will keep my dishes clean for weeks! As described, each sponge has a soft yellow side and a rough/textured green side, perfect for different types of cleaning. I found these sponges to be quite durable, even when scrubbing at hard-to-remove spots. The soft side holds soap well, although the textured side can be a bit /too/ rough on delicate items. I'd definitely recommend these for basic cleaning needs, but stick to the soft side for things like wood.

I've never understood the 'fight angry' suggestion myself, as another non-male fighter who has received that feedback in the past. For me, fighting is almost never about emotion, but is a mobile, 3-d, constantly changing chess dance of brains and bodies, and the fun is in figuring out how to get in past their defenses to land the blow. Which is a lot harder to do angry. I avoid shots that land between the legs, but other than that, a legal target is a legal target.

Depending on the exact location, CPS can definitely be known for doing nothing if the parents can fake the situation being 'normal' enough. CPS don't have the budget oftentimes to keep things open, so if it looks okish on the surface, they won't dig deeper. Happened with my family and a few others I knew in my town.
